Been in the laboratory profession for 19 yrs now. Thanks to the grace of God. Great profession great job opportunity. The only thing I wish the pay was better. It took me a while to get where I'm at in pay. This is how my career started 1st went back to school got my GED 2nd Enrolled in this vocational school for a 1yr program for a Clinical Laboratory Technician and passed my certification 3rd went to college got my Associate's degree in Biology 4th worked as a laboratory supervisor for 5years in High-Complexity testing 5th Passed my Medical Technologist exam with AAB Now getting my Bachelor's degree in Biology to a technical Consultant
It's cool enough for my family but my wife also works so it helps alot..Plus we are not big spenders. I just want to finish my Bachelor's degree and start my Lab consultanting business

I was hoping someone can help me out by answering my question. I am finishing up my bachelors degree at a cal state in biology & a minor in microbiology , I initially started as a pre-med but most recently decided that was not the career for me. Since then I’ve been interested in becoming an MLS. Will I have to enroll in a whole new program to achieve that goal or is it possible to apply for a post-bacc program to complete any of the remaining pre reqs I may need? Or will I be qualified to take a board examination since I took a lot of medical related courses as an undergrad? Thank you to anyone who answers in advance!
No go ahead and finish your degree in biology. If you look at job listings for “Medical Technologist/Scientist” the qualifications be like “A degree in either biology, chemistry, medical technology, or clinical laboratory science” While the Medical Technology and Clinical Lab Science degrees are specifically made for this work. Those who have the Biology and Chemistry degrees will be trained by the hospital to do this. Also a lot of hospitals have programs for biology degree majors for them to get certified to do this too.
@@josiahwalk5440 I did my undergrad at Cal State LA, advice that I would give is make sure you’re not taking a heavy load. Don’t rush things thinking that you’re behind it may take a while to complete the program but that’s okay! Make sure to form study groups early on as these people will most likely become your closest friends & you’ll see them in each & every class. Enjoy the subject & make sure to find something interesting in each course & every lecture, this will keep you going!
I'm a qfb (Biologist Pharmaceutical Chemist) in México, we do the same af MLS and some of pharmacist, If i want to Validate My Carrer i have to course all the four years or there is a special Process for that?????
they are the same, in my university its Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science, but on the other universities the call it Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology.
I am in an MLS program right now. If you don't mind me asking, do you get paid well where you work? and is a bachelors degree all that is needed for this job?
Not at all. Medicine is more focused on health sciences and everything regarding your body and health. Whereas MLT would be focused on blood, tissue etc. I’d advise taking a life sci or health sci course! Taking only this course would make you severely underprepared for your MCAT.
