The saddest part of this ... they had no need for doing it. They were already wealthy and in line to inherit a share of it anyway. Greed destroys your soul.

@Mitch 1066 I think that's why most people treaure their jewelry. Each of my watches represents a goal I achieved and I bought them to commemorate the goal. I have some amazing mens rings with some true artistry and craftsmanship. I'm sure they are worth quite a bit. I have no idea how much they are worth because they we given to me by my parents and grandparents. Each one came with a story. I love the stories, I love the pieces, but I miss my grandparents more.
Which is why I think the reason she is sad she can no longer feel the same about an entire branch of her family anymore.
That is her son. She carried him. Gave birth to him. Raised him and was proud of him. Hugged him when he became a father. Repeated those moments if pride as her grandson's moved through life. And they ruined it. It's gone now. The money could come back. The jewelry, however unlikely could be returned. But the love for her son and grandsons is damaged permanently.
That's a whole new kind of sad.

Fortunately, she'd already made myself and my other brother power of attorneys and we dealt with the evil ones swiftly and surely. I told them no one touches her money and my other brother threatened them legally. We haven't talked to him since 2008. Just before xmas in 2008, Mom went to her lawyer with her investment agent, and cut the evil brother right out of everything. He didn't get so much as a thin dime when she died a few years later. Man it's so sad to see someone's own child and even their grandchildren take advantage of them. I wish my grandparents were still around so I could spend more time with them and just sit and listen to their stories about their lives. I would never, in a million years think about doing anything to hurt my grandparents, rest their souls. Meanwhile, here we have a 93 year old grandmother and instead of them treating her like a revered matriarch that she is? They go and steal and try to swindle her? There is no punishment severe enough for people who harm their own family. Messed up.
