There are 3 phases: 1. AI is trash, not useful at all 2. AI is a useful tool, but you still need humans. 3. AI is better than humans. We are now in the second phase, our skills still matter but that is going to change very soon.

The worst is that there are musicians who rely on AI for the entire song composition, who's to say musicians won't use AI to gain commerical success? Authenticity is stripping down day by days. there's nothing better than the feeling of picking up and instrument and playing something solely by yourself without any technology, a raw performance will never change.

Thank you for exploring this brave new world! Any suggestions for an academic who wants to turn short sentences or lists into a song that students can use to memorize information? Songr generated a great little tune when I plugged in these sentences I wrote: "After the Tower of Babel, man lived in tents foraging and wandering after game. Known as Nomads, they settled in the Fertile Crescent near the Tigris and Euphrates." But, I have over a hundred memory sentences for which I need music or chants, and at 5 downloads a day (and sometimes re-entering a sentence because the song wasn't catchy and easy enough), it's going to take a long time to finish. Are there any ai music generators out there that are as simple as Songr to use but allow me the ability to do more than just 5 a day? I don't mind paying for a subscription. In the future, I may want to make the songs downloadable for a fee (like $30 for 120 Memorization Song) so I would need to "own the rights."

1:17 thats not the definition of AI. Your definition is describing machine learning, which more advanced AI uses (nowadays pretty much every AI though). Not every AI uses machine learning but everything that uses machine learning is an AI. AI basically means a software is mimicking human intelligence. So stacking loops on top of each other based on some inputs could possibly be defined as AI, even though it's underwhelming.

I use AI as a partner. ChatGPT and Bard. Its like having JS Bach to John Lennon as a partner. For instance, I might come up with chords for the verse and chorus then ask ChatGPT, for suggestions for Bridge chords. I like what it comes up with 80% of the time. ChatGPT and Bard are amazing tools. It not only helps suggest ideas but helps you learn more about music as it tells you why it is suggesting what it does.
I reposted this so others can see how to use AI as a partner.

AI is such a buzz word especially in music production. most of them are just algorithms or machine learning trained algorithms but none of these have actual "AI". whats annoying me personally the most is that people cant tell the difference to true AI because of that and are potentially missing out on real AI tools which are becoming better every day. a few to look out for are HarmonAI (open source research project), musicLM (by Google) and MusicGen (by MetaAI). look into these to be working with actual AI, its quite exciting and youll be able to tell your friends that you working with some super early AI models and not just some fancy midi generators. sorry if this sounds negative but i am actually quite excited about all sorts of creative AI tools and just think its bad by the companies to state whats actually wrong! and great video like always :) oh and theres also "coucou" which comes close to a midi/melody generator but based on an ACTUAL ai model, cheers!

A lot of people believe that AI generated voices will replace real vocalists, but from what I found most apps still need you to sing nice and allow only for voice timbre replacement, or works like melodyne and need brilliant producer behind to sound realistic at all. 10:45 OMG yes! This is EXACTLY what I’ve tried to explain to people about art and artistic stuff. Also anyone will be able to make artistic looking/sounding stuff, but most art is multidimensional and needs a meaningful context. AI will need to get a LOT better to make highly multidimensional “meaningful” content. But as you said, even when it can get better at that the ability of everyone who actually produces this stuff goes up. So when AI can make a game as good as they are today all by itself based on a short text prompt, imagine what kind of games game producers will be able to make that actually put thought and craft into it! The bottom line for artists though is FIND MEANING, because craft can be replaced. Humans want meaning and AI will make us appreciate hand crafted meaningful content more.

As a classically trained musician and composer, I am a little worried of how AI might make my expertise and talent not as sought out after or necessary in the industry. I do feel that I have a gift for creating music and would love to share that gift to the world, but if AI makes it possible for every person to create equally advanced music with minimal effort and knowledge, I don't know - it just feels that people won't value talent as much anymore, and also that it will be harder to distinguish if someone really made something himself or just used some generation. I think it's a sad shift in the creative industry since it's all about self expression and creation, but now with technology it seems like it will be more about "doing something with as minimal effort as possible just so I can brag and show it to the world and say that it's all me who did it". People who have put decades in learning the art and craft, won't be as valued anymore, and this also applied so other creative fields such as artists, graphical designers, etc. Now that midjourney is here.
People used to say that the last professions to be replaced by AI would be creative fields, but it rather seems to be these fields that AI are starting to fiddle with and as a creative myself who spent decades in perfecting my craft, I am worried in how the next 10-20 years will look like. People will most likely be able to tell the AI to create a symphony in the style of mozart blended with bethooven and get the output in 10 minutes and then tell that it's their own stuff, and then use some other AI to mix and master it in the style of some mixer probably. This is not what art is about in my opinion. Right now, we are safe, but seeing where things are going, I'm concerned.
At least, I'm a metal guitarist in a band also, and this seems to be a field hard to replace, until we get guitar playing robots lmao.
I just needed to vent a little, cheers people and keep creating!

I agree with you that’s pretty true. We are going to that route that AI is happening but human made the AI so yes I agree with you on that and yes, I agree with you. Even professionals are gonna use AI and become better. AI is kind of like a starting point on helping you through your journey and I agree 100%.😊

Great comment about being replaced by a person that knows how to use AI

As the artist, the worst feeling is to lose interest in a song because of the tedious nature of ‘doing everything’. If AI can clean up my demos…separate the kick/bass, pan competing instruments, etc…then I can get my music out there faster.
Just having Melodyne saves my voice from having to get warmed back up for just one note.

For 90%+ of consumers it's: close enough is good enough

Replace? No...Reduce your customer volume? For sure. What AI offers the most, is the ability for artist's to focus on creating a volume of art while not having to spend the time deep diving audio engineering skills. The subtle differences between a pro and AI will continue to diminish, and at the listener level will mean nothing if the song has the "hook" to make it rise anyway. Recording and or possibly mobile, come to you, recording skills will have the better shelf life allowing the artist even less of a gear cost expenditure.

I agree, especially on the end user where the listener will not care if its ai or real human made track. I would say that at some point you will talk to your phone and say I want edm with pop relaxed vibe and ai will generate a list of original songs just for you. No royalty issues, rights, etc…

@@musicandmusic9796 I don't know, whether or not a listener will care if it is AI generated art or human generated art might surely "matter" to some..IF known. If there is no concern to know, like most, then yes the ability to blur the difference as time goes on is an absolute certainty. Especially from the mix, mastering side, which means squat to the consumers of the art, concerning the how, or who, as long as the end result is up to spec. Proper mixers are not artist's, unless of course an artist mixing their own art. Making that easier for artist's to accomplish allows them to avoid some hack mixer changing the intent of their art trying to play artist piggy backing on their customers art..... this from a biased former artist dealing with various mixers in the analog days.

@@sword-and-shield I just replied to someone in regards to analog days. I was starting out and I recognized immediately that digital would be the future and as you can imagine the “analog” pros told me how wrong I was, that I/you will never get a sound as good as analog from digital. My answer to that was that they were delusional and stuck. I would imagine that some of them maybe rembeber that conversation. Best analogy, combustion engine vs electric motor.

@@musicandmusic9796 Solid analogy for sure. I have only dabbled in mixing in the digital realm, outside a Tascam 4 tracker with 2 mics strategically placed in the living room capturing live rehearsals, that is the extent of my analog mixing. But we sure shelled out a lot of never satisfied money on the semi pro local studios back in the day.

If the compositions the AI sites are generating suck right now and are "going to get really good", why are they releasing everything now, and not when they are actually good?

You're missing the point: as newcomers simplify the production process, there will be an increase in consumption of low-quality product, at the expense of the increased volume of the product itself. Simply put: you will have to make so much that you will cease to be competitive due to trivial exhaustion.
