An epic journey narrated by true protagonists and renowned historians.
ドキュメンタリー『サムライが生んだ総合格闘技　柔術500年の闘い』は嘉納治五郎の功績、ブラジルでのグレイシー一族の台頭、UFCの創設を経て、世界の格闘界を席巻するまでのブラジリアン柔術の歴史をたどる。真の格闘家たちと著名な歴史家によって語られる壮大なストーリー。
EPISODE 1 - The initial development of Jiu-Jitsu starting in the age of the Samurai, the importance of Jigoro Kano, rival academies and the arrival of Japanese fighters in Brazil, including Mitsuyo Maeda who, in 1914, opened his own academy and met Carlos Gracie.
戦国時代に生まれ江戸時代に盛んになった柔術も、封建制度の終わりと共に衰退。それを救ったのが武術家の嘉納治五郎だ。従来の柔術を再編して近代化し、それを弟子たちが世界中に広めていった。その1人、前田光世はブラジルに渡って道場を開き、カーロス・グレイシーと出会う。

カーロス・グレイシーは前田光世との出会いを経て、グレイシーアカデミーを創設する。そして、弟のジョルジの活躍によりグレイシーの名が広まっていく。カーロスとジョルジの関係悪化に伴い、末弟のエリオが台頭しはじめ、エリオはヴァルデマー・サンタナと伝説的な試合を行う。

エリオの長男ホリオンはアメリカで、広告業界のアート・デイビーの助力を得て、総合格闘技大会UFCを創設する。その弟であるホイスとヒクソンは各地の大会で次々と優勝を飾る。日本では新たに総合格闘技大会PRIDEが発足し、世界最大級の大会へと成長していく。
