As a Native New Yorker, I gotta say, you’ll get a lot more for your money and space if you leave downtown Manhattan. The Upper East Side will surprise you with affordability and size in comparison to downtown. The Upper West Side is also more affordable in comparison but also a bit pricier than the UES. And it goes without saying that you’ll get more bang for your buck if you venture outside of Manhattan. I think there are many neighborhoods in Queens and Brooklyn you would like. LIC, Astoria, and Sunnyside (in Queens) come to mind. And in BK-Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Park Slope, Boerum Hill, Downtown Brooklyn, etc. You get the neighborhood feel and city amenities without the Manhattan prices and small spaces. Also they’re a pretty close to Manhattan via train & ferry too. So you get the best of it all. It makes NYC a much more realistic option to move to when you explore more “affordable” neighborhoods, in comparison to SoHo anyway lol. 😅
@Rachel Forshee - I disagree with your assessment . She can choose to live wherever she wants, and as a born and bred New Yorker I can give her advice should she choose to live here. I don’t know her financial portfolio, but she can also purchase a place instead of renting, just not in the neighborhoods she’s looking in.
Thanks for posting this I rather know what neighborhoods are more peaceful and affordable from someone whose born and raised in NYC, it gives me hope for someday living there🙂
these prices are honestly shocking wow. i do not get how people live or justify paying that. especially renting you are just throwing money away so crazy
8,500 x 12 (months) is 102,000. Imagine making more than that and still living in a tiny apartment. And that was just rent! those people probably make $150,000+
I'm in nyc. It's just that. The fact that you're in nyc, the best city in the world. I mean, you can get a asian hooker delivered to your door on new year's eve at midnight. Can't do that anyplace else🤣🤣🤷♀️🤷♀️
Most people who live in NYC have more sense than to pay that price, I assure you. The people who are doing that are either "afraid" of Brooklyn or have money to burn and simply don't care.
I cant believe a year and a half has gone by since that first NY apt tour! Soho apartment #4 😘! I can't fathom $8500 a MONTH for an apt. though. Even $4200! 😳.
Always enjoy seeing Manhattan apartments and the crazy prices and layouts. The beauty of NYC is that you can live in a nearby borough and get a bigger and cheaper apt. and still have easy access to Manhattan. This way you can have the bustle of Manhattan and then go home to a suburb. My daughter's friend who has 2 kids just rented a 3 bedroom, 2 bath very large apt. in Forest Hills Queens for $3700. Unfortunately they can't afford to buy a house in their price range right now, so they'll try to save more towards a down payment. I hate the way landlords cut up apts. and have fireplaces in the corner of a room or some other awkward place.
Every time I see how my fellow New Yorkers live I feel so fortunate for my house and my yard 😂🤣. Love these. It’s so fascinating to see all the apartments and different living spaces.
Apartment #2 was my favourite I loved the brick wall, the stairs, and the overall layout. I actually liked the lighting it made it gloomy in a good way.
Goodness, the monthly rent is so expensive!! I'd rather pay a mortgage - sorry, I'm just stunned at the prices for such a small amount of space. Thanks for taking us with you on the apartment hunt journey, it was really interesting (and eye opening) 🫨 Love ya 💗💜💗
@queens6583 , it's exactly the same here in the UK. When I was younger it was so cheap to rent a one bedroomed apartment, whereas mortgages were expensive. My initial comment was very much "tongue in cheek" - British sarcasm, sorry. The greed of the landlords for private accommodation is sickening (in the UK), they will continue to raise the cost of renting unless my government makes some much needed changes to certain laws. Thankfully, I own my home but my son experienced the "private landlord greed" first hand. It creates a catch 22 situation, in that people cannot save for a mortgage deposit AND rent privately. Which was why my son had to return home - just to be able to save up the deposit needed. I totally understand that not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to return home or, indeed, earn enough to allow them to put money aside. It's very difficult for todays young people.
How about Brooklyn? We stayed in Chinatown and spent most of our time in Brooklyn last time we went. It was so charming and lots of mom and pop restaurants. Id love to see an apartment there. Love these!
Uhm what type of jobs do people be working here cause those rent prices holy shiz. I’d cry every month throwing away that much money and I’d never leave the place to get my moneys worth 😭😭😭
Doctors, lawyers, Wall Street. Investment banking and stock brokerages pay insane salaries. Also, there are trust fund babies who want to live in NYC! Although I would guess they'd buy, not rent.
Definitely apartment number 4! I have to disagree with you on painting brick white though! It makes me sooo sad. Takes away from the character but that's just in my opinion 😊
I literally just finished watching your first NYC apartment tour video with the $2 million listing. I’ve been wanting to move to NYC since I was a kid- so it’s awesome to live vicariously through you!
I visited NYC for the first time in 2021. On a whim. I always wanted to live there when I was young. I flew into Philadelphia and rented a car. I drove up to Manhattan, clueless where to go. I drove around a bit, and left. I was pretty pleased with myself for daring to drive there. Since then I’ve driven all over Manhattan twice now. I’ll probably never live there, but I’m proud of myself for visiting and seeing the city. If you can give yourself even a 3 day weekend, do it. As a novice, I’d recommend flying into JFK and renting an Uber to drop you off somewhere in the city. Get a hotel for a couple days and just wander around and walk. Let the Uber take you back to the airport when you’re done. You’ll be glad you did.
If you're looking to live in NYC. Check out other areas outside of Manhattan because you'll get more bang for your buck. Don't just settle for Manhattan.
Love these videos, they are fun to watch. I enjoy the outside look of the buildings, too, so much variety and character. Thank you for publishing these.
For everyone complaining about the rent prices, I get it. NYC is expensive and that is a fact but I would rather live in NYC than live in the boring suburbs in the Midwest. For people that don’t get it, you’re not going to get it. I would be much happier in NYC paying more than living in the suburbs.
So interesting to see the different apts and prices! No plans to move to NY anytime, I’ve never even visited for that matter lol but I do love watching these videos!
Funny you say that, I'm a born and raised Floridian and think about leaving all the time. Not for those prices and lack of sunshine! The apartments (and Taylor ofc) are lovely though❤
LOVED the apartment with the backyard. Just incredible... Lived in Long Island most of my life and commuted to the city. If ever I could have afforded that apartment, I would have signed the lease there and then!
The apartment situation in NY is insane. My son is a medical resident (so think low pay) and has to rent and finding something was crazy. Between the prices and the co-op boards wow!
Love Anthony Park!!! ❤️. Definitely love #4. Holy cow! Beautiful 😍. Love when you do these. They are amazing. You really could do just that for a living showing off apartments. It is fascinating to me how expensive they are a month. That is more than I pay for my mortgage for an entire house!! 😮

I love having space(my current 1 bedroom is 714 square feet and that feels perfect for myself) and also a must have for me is a dishwasher, closet/storage space, and laundry either in unit or only shared by a few other units in the hallway. I know nyc is so expensive because of the location but it’s still like wow. That $8,400 apartment is almost 9 months of rent at my current apartment. I live in a good area and pay a little under $1000 a month. I also have gas, water, parking etc included in the rent so my only additional apartment related expenses are electricity, internet and renters insurance.

I am so curious to know if NYC is still a contender for places you might move too!
Hi Taylor! I am about to go on a trip to Europe and bought the Chi steamer you recommended. Do you use a converter with it when you travel internationally? If you don't travel internationally with the Chi steamer, what do you recommend instead?
You'd be really fked if you had limited mobility and needed an elevator. The prices are insane for living in a closet sized space with terrible views of only more buildings.
I'm city girl, I live in the heart of Chicago, but NYC is wild to me. Every space is so awkward and claustrophobic even the larger units unless you get towards those million dollar price ranges and I could never do a walk-up for the life of me. God forbid you twist an ankle or something and need to get home. I've never had the desire to live there but always fascinated by these apt hunting videos. I'll stick to my condo (that I own) with elevator, doorman and garage parking.

Yes, especially the Yorkville area of the UES, it's cheaper than the trendy parts of Brooklyn and Queens too.
I love getting to see the world through you. You look so happy and I love it 💗

Question, do the ritual vitamins give you the fishy burps? When I took mine, they did….!😢
I'm city girl, I live in the heart of Chicago, but NYC is wild to me.
Loved apartment 4 but so expensive
Taylor you are my favourite youtuber in the world and I am so so excited to watch this vlog you are my inspiration and I wish you reach 1 Million Subscribers very very soon!💓💫☺️
No 4 is my pick if I had to choose one! X
Great apartments that are realistic and true to form of a NYC apartment.
I could see you living in apartment 4. That place was gorgeous
I don’t understand why it would be a “bedroom situation”, and not just simply a bedroom? What is the difference?
Cue the “that rent is more than my mortgage” comments 😂
