🤩 Jealous has such a bad connotation, as not to allow the other, but I feel a very deep need to own something like this. Two keyboards, full pedal, fully acoustic and a rich, modest sound for studying at home. It would also feel like a small crime against humanity to allow me with my limited talent to own such a wonderful and unique instrument. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic! Maybe, J. S. Bach played his keyboard- / organ-music at home in the same way. The clavicord was his favorite instrument, so you are close to the historic scenario and your musical performance is wonderful!
Brilliant - such a well ordered set of instruments -quite delightful as an alternative to a church pipe organ. Please keep uploading these lovely performances.
Your playing, your technique, your interpretation - and your incredible "stack" of Clavichords, are just SUCH a total joy to watch and to which to listen! I've always known this piece as a near-impossible-to-play Organ work, and here you are totally smashing it on superbly expressive instruments! Utterly Brilliant! THANK YOU so much for this utterly virtuoso rendition of J S Bach's Trio Sonata #5.
Thanks for posting such great performances, I know some comments in different vids have complained about the out-of-tunedness quality, but both that and the vibrato possibilities make the clavichord more expressive like a guitar (where out-of-tunedness is normal).
When I was a kid, I had an electric organ we bought from a thrift store, and I normally wore socks instead of shoes when playing it to feel what I was doing with the pedals. That was a load of fun. I managed to learn almost all of Toccata and Fugue before it broke completely and became unusable.
Happy to see you playing in socks, Balint! I do also when playing the pedal harpsichord I have here (Hubbard & Broekman, 1990 - built when I worked in the shop). It enables me to feel direct contact with the string. My pedal has 16'; 8' 4', with two alternating rows of jacks operating on the 8' string. It also has an ingenious Transfer box between pedalboard and instrument, which eliminates the noise normally transferred through into the instrument.
I actually prefer these trio sonatas on the triple clavichord rather than on the organs. I just love the setup, it's such a wonderful and creative idea, and it works like a charm. I've listened the 4th trio sonata like 100 times already, and I love this piece equally much.
Acutally, these trio sonatas have been recorded in endless combinations ( just search on TH-cam) Here is one of my favorite: for two harpsichords: th-cam.com/video/0f_V19gjjX4/w-d-xo.html
@@prager5046 I've found arrangements for harpsichord and oboe as well as harpsichord and flute for the 4th trio sonata. I'm an oboist myself (as well as pianist and violinist) so I like the oboe arrangement the most.

This is by far the most enjoyable recording of this trio sonata i could find on youtube so far! It sounds so smooth and beautiful while the organ registrations just hurt my ears xD
Such a beautiful looking instrument & what lovely delicate sound!! BWV 529 2nd movt, is one of the most beautiful and poignant pieces ever written by Bach, to my mind. Thank you!🌺
Amazing - I can’t stop listening. The clavichord is the sprungiest instrument. I hope to get to see you play someday - solo and leading an ensemble for a few Cantatas. That’s would be a memorable evening.
Those who think the sound is “terrible” may want to lower the volume on their headphones. In 1959 Ralph Kirkpatrick made a famous recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier on a clavichord. In the liner notes, as I recall, he advised setting the volume at a level where a quietly spoken conversation would drown out the sound of the instrument. The clavichord is a lovely, expressive, and *SOFT* instrument. In other words, listen to this this video at a comfortably low level and you will probably enjoy it more. Very fine playing as well. 😎🎹 *P.S. Here’s a link to Ralph Kirkpatrick playing the famous C Major Prelude from Book 1 of the WTC on clavichord:* th-cam.com/video/Cb3guk5iVi4/w-d-xo.html
very nice indeed! Do you think a pedal clavichord could be a good instrument to practice all organ repertoire? Or only music until 18th century? I was wondering about, what would Mendelssohn, Franck and Reger sound like on it...
This is a great video! I love the mic pickup. The performance was very good. A few little mistakes, but hey, it's live and an truly awesome performance. What I love about your clavichords is the ability to have your nuances. Slight differences in tonality and timber are used to very convincing effect. The pedal clavichord is a delight to listen to. Must be a real bear to keep yourself in good form. I'm guessing it has a rather light touch on the pedals. I think this is your most refined Clavichord recording to date. So happy to have been able to watch. I will listen again. I always use my reference set of headphones. And your recording is very impressive. You should consider self publishing the complete set. I would review this in a heartbeat.
Thanks so much. I though I managed to edit out all the mistakes :-) unless you are referring to some of the unevenness in the pedal which unfortunately is extremely hard on the pedal clavichord. I am currently planning to record the six sonatas for YT and eventually for a CD in the future
Would be great if the CD is recorded in a similar way. I like the "roomy" sound the mic's picking up. Some sound engineers place the mic way too close to the instrument. That's not how normally the audience listens to a performance.
I'm a bit puzzled why the two manual instruments are different sizes, especially since you used the smaller one for the left hand in the third movement and they both seem to be sounding at 8' pitch. I'm just amazed at the plethora of instruments you have access to.
Very nicely played! and also the timbre is great. Can you also please perform Pachelbel's Chaconne in D Major on this instrument? I am sure it will sound great!
Fantastic, i have never seen/heard a pedal clavichord before...and i have plenty of old keyboards instruments in my CD collections...tempo are on the faster side which i do like... Just one request though, please change the title from sonata to trio sonatas...there is a slight difference between the two... especially in your wonderful playing and the sweet sound of the pedal clavichord, one can hear the two voices plus the bass line...
Judging by their size (and therefore the length of their strings), the two manuals are probably one octave apart. The pedalboard is at least one, if not two octaves lower than the bottom manual.
Nicely done, Balint. Are you a member of the Boston Clavichord Society? If you have the time, they might love to have you participate And perhaps bring some shared music and content to your U Tube channel.
They have proved using peer-reviewed studies that the 6 Trio Sonatas by Bach are humanly impossible to play. Therefor I must conclude that the fabulous performance that we "witness" in this video was created by AI. 🙂
No disrespect to this amazing instrument but wouldn’t you rather do this on the organ? The effort is the same, and the sound will be orders of magnitude better (I am organist lol)
