    Imagine using a pedal harpsichord for continuo. So much power!

    ...ingenious instrument. The reeds in the pedal harmonise very well with the strings.

    The instrument is very interesting, I was pleasantly surprised how well the organ sound blends with the harpsichord. But mostly, what an excellent performance! I always find Pachelbel a bit boring when I play it, but when I heard this I wanted to try myself. But it's nowhere near as vibrant and alive when I play it. Bravissimo!

    Many years ago, I had occasion to see a Kilgen (or maybe Kimbal) small home/chapel/chamber instrument. It had 4 or 5 unified ranks playing
    on 2 manuals and Pedal. The bottom octave of the 16' Bourdon was a 16' Vox Humana placed inside a box lined with felt to deaden the upper harmonics and "rattle" of a short length reed Allowing more the fundamental to come through. It was quite effective in a small instrument.

    This is a beautiful sounding harpsichord! And I really like the organ pedals in combination with it. I think I actually like this better than a traditional pedal harpsichord.

    Amazing! I have been familiar with pedal harpsichords since the mid 70's when I discovered an E Power Biggs recording. Was familiar with his organ recordings but this astonished and delighted me at the time. Until now I have never known about this configuration of plucked strings and wind reeds and I love it. Thanks for posting.

      After listening several times tot this video, I decided to build a pedalboard like yours from old Rankett 16' Pipes and a second hand pedalboard. My uncle is a carpenter and will help me to built a simple windchest. Iḿ really fascinated from this combination instrument. In our parish church an older harpsichord is in seldom use. I hope to change that... :-)

    • @MrLoknar
      @MrLoknar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@caesarsneezer6992 The pedalboard on this instrument is connected to reed pipes (all the little rectangular shapes above the pedalboard, you can see them well from 1:30 onward when he films the pedalboard). If you don't know what reed pipes are, I'd suggest googling it, as it will be a bit complicated for me to explain it in English ;)

    Several aspects of this performance are remarkable. Not only the unusual but excellent choice of instrument but, mainly, the playing. It is obvious that Vincenzi has devoted lots of study to decide on every single details of this very raffinated interpretation: Baroque playing technique, careful realisation of ornaments, excellent registration, great overall musicianship. Again, bravissimo!

    The question I just posted is mainly about the beginning section when the pedal first enters. I think I'm right in that the left hand is doubled by the pedal making me think the manual is coupled to the pedal..Later in the piece I hear only the Rankett in the pedal.

    Wait, there's a set of reeds on the pedals? I thought it was coupled for a minute. This is super, super cool. Is there a way you could also put a coupler to the bottom strings using some trackers? That would be really cool. You'd have a reed division as well as a 4' pedal harpsichord stop.

    'RAFFINATED INTERPRETATION" is this localized musical terminology or a a semantic extension of your making? I find it wonderful.

    • @shiningarmor2838
      @shiningarmor2838 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Rankett is a very loud sound compared to the harpsichord, so he couples the manuals together so that they're as loud as the pedals. In most instruments with multiple manuals, the top manual couples to the bottom one.
