Very nice video and the villa was looking amazing! Really good diving mate but the bigger Dentex where not around...That Barra though was a perfect catch before the sunset! Waiting for the next part man!
That’s actually a great idea! Just use rubber bands to put sea weed on wear you want just as I do when I go hunting! Because the best camp comes from wear you are hunting
Here in Palau I remember an old-timer that tied pieces of coral around his mask and seaweed on his head. I personally have used coconut fronds to create "blinds" at certain spots that I frequently visit
Looking forward to the next video. Always makes my day seeing you post. Love the combination of the scenery, wonderful people and the eating at the end!!
Thank you for the beautiful video mate.So close to my area.If i knew that you were here i would have come to spearfish with you.Keep going with the good work.
Thanks for another great vid Dan. We did a taste test in the Florida Keys with hogfish, mangrove snapper and barracuda and we all preferred the cuda. They are plentiful and we don’t spear any above about 2Kgs.
Again, superb story telling and another awesome fish! I’m glad he didn’t get ahold of you with those teeth! But they are delicious! I think barracuda is the most underrated fish in the world.
Great video sir I’m glad you now got a in Greece! Here in the Philippines we make tinoula (fish soup) and inunonan fish cooked in vinegar with garlic and a little soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and a teaspoon of bacon oil added just before it finish cooking
@@DanielMann yea saw some big ones in the azores, my largest catch there was just over 5kg for the Yellowmouth Barracuda! But been in Cyprus the past couple months, only seen schools of juveniles
Hi Daniel. Congrats on your baracuda!! Nice too see you diving in my area😀. Last sunday i was diving approx. 3 miles southern then you!! And the dantex was there but i was too slow🤣🤣
There's a lot of worry of ciguatera poisoning here in Hawaii... From what I've come to understand, just about any reef fish can have it, and by eating them regularly, the poison can build up in your system to cause a reaction. There is an introduced species that we stay away from, but the native predator fish are just as likely to carry a detrimental dose. Great vid, as always!
Hi Daniel, this cevice/marinated carpaccio recipe looks nice, I'll test it for Christmas Eve diner apetizers with some local Mayotte fish. 2 questions: 1) how long did you marinate it in oil+citrus juice, did you let it acidity-cook or was it still really raw when eating? 2) I speared what I think is my first golden trevally yesterday, do you know it, and is it a sashimi-grade meat as I heard, ok for this recipe? Thks, always a pleasure to watch your videos!
Bonjour Clément! You only need it to marinate it for half an hour but can leave it for an hour or two. It was semi cooked from the acid. Golden trevally are quite nice sashimi, I used this recipe on a golden trevally I speared in Australia recently and it was great.
@@DanielMann thanks, can't wait to see that on a next video of yours! I'll be happy to see new footage of Australian sealife, we like your channel wherever you shoot but here in Mayotte we relate more easily to that! Of course if you end up around our little island we'll be delighted to show you around and take you out to sea. Cheers!
I stayed at a hotel right down the road from where you were. Was with the wifey and she said no spearfishing for our weekend getaway. Went for a little snorkel with my mask and it was legit the fishiest place I have ever come across in Greece. A difficult lesson to learn. Never again lol
Love Your videos. Most of knowledge about spearfishing i take grom Your chanel. You inpiring me. Today i shoot my first barracuda in greece. Thank You for Your chamel. this evning i try to my first barracuda ceviche. Chave a nice day :).
Love Barracuda! Kiwis don't like them either. I've shot heaps, and just didn't tell anybody until after the mead. I South Africa is is a major commercial target...
Daniel, I noticed in this video that you have a red camo(?) wetsuit on. Are you just getting more color into the video or trying to test the idea that suits other than the standard black will help you get more fish? I ask because I have read a number of different opinions on the subject but have little spearfishing experience of my own.
To be honest the suit is 3.5mm and about 8 years old. I just haven’t been in warm water so much over the past few years. I don’t think it makes much difference at all. I’ve shot plenty of fish in a black wetsuit.
great to see so many dentex.. from watching all the med videos I assume you have figured them out more. what you you attribute to this, mark selection or dive strategy?.. was in the Balearic Islands recently without my gun and saw a lot of species in 2-5 m. was very surprised.
Nice barracuda my friend!! My wishes for more good catches!! What is the size of difficulty, spearfishing in Greek waters, compared to other places that you have been?
Congrats for shooting a fish in Greece. I can give you the names of a couple brilliant spear fishermen if you're interested in coming to Lebanon. Grouper, king fish, amberjack etc. No promises for a dentex though 😋
In Med sea there is no Ciguatera (thank God). Also this is not a classic barracuda like its ocean cousin,it is another species that does not turn and bite the diver,no worries there....
What can one say? Great storytelling. Great skills all round. P.S. Was a tad relieved to read an answer to a comment on a previous video, that you're not remotely musical? Phew. Perfection is a troubling thing. 😉👍 Mark, Scotland
You have to come to Cozumel! We have the most amazing reefs in the Maya Riviera plus a surplus of species you can fish at all depths. Hit me up I'd be honored to have you. Mi casa es tu casa ✌️
One thing I've noticed about your driving lately. You need to calm down you head is jerking left and right to fast and too often. I don't know if it's because of COVID and you don't have as much bottom time. Or your just freaking out being there. Get to the bottom look down at the sand. and take a few seconds then slowly look up and see what's there. Don't move your gun all around because they are coming in from everywhere. shoot the one's that comes in front of you. This is what I see you doing that is hurting your chances. Every time you talk about it there your coming down on yourself. X-amount of trips here and no fish yet but today is the day... You have already put something negative in the back of your mind. Relax enjoy the water there are some of us who can't get out and do it.

I'm waiting for the day that spearfishers start using a ghillie suit.
Saw an old dude in Sicily doing it. He was 78 and only fishes in a few feet of water.

Hope you were eating a Sussex bass for lunch, have missed those! Yes the next video has more interesting captures!
Shot a barracuda about that size in Bali last month. They grill everything there but next time I’ll give that method a go. Beautiful, quality video.

Depends where you are in both countries. I’ve had it very warm in both and also cooler in both.
Hey daniel, have you ever tried the Salvimar Tomahawk speargun? What you think about it's design? Good content as always by the way :)
I’ve never tried one but that roller system certainly works with other brands I’ve tried. Generally they make pretty decent gear 👌
Ahhhh Dan, lad. You’re doing life right.
Do they ever get heavy trying to bring them to the surface? I imagine it’s like carrying 60Ibs
Much lighter because of the buoyancy of water.

Are the sounds you make underwater voluntary or involuntary?
Voluntary.
