  • In this video, originally produced for Official Patrons of our podcast, "Straight from the Horse Doctor's Mouth," Dr. Lacher discusses some elements of barn design and how they impact horse health, the veterinarian's experience working in them, and general insights from spending a lifetime working in and around a multitude of barns. Thanks for this great video! There is so much that this video has to offer for every horse person. I know a lot of barns have a " muck bucket" near their crossties/ tacking areas. Those buckets are always swarming with flies. Switching out those buckets for a covered can is such a simple way to reduce those flies and make a barn feel and look so much cleaner.

In several boarding / training barns that I have worked in Tx, La, and Ok, huge windows on the backside of the barns had a awning that can be lowered in case of bad weather or winter. This was in barns that had 70 - 135 stalls (no outside doors - just isle doors. I dont remember show barns had outside doors either. show barns was either and /or English or western showing. You have great info and ideas about what works in barns of all sizes. Have a great day 🙂

Thank you so much for this super helpful and informative video! We will be building a barn in the next few years and will keep these tips in mind as we plan the design.
