      I had my Elton John CD collection, complete thru "Here and There", stolen... I'm still sick over it!
      Punks probably didn't even know a single song from that era, which was amazing! Tumbleweed Connection probably my favorite. Some of those are out of print, the replacements are cheap, no liner notes. Thankfully, I still have a bunch in Vinyl for that content.

    A Taupin and Elton masterpiece which no-one should ever attempt without severe caution. Brandi and her band nail it with their arrangement and delivery. Capturing the original energy, it delivers the passion and chaos of both the lyric and music....... it takes me back to 1971 and my first listening of this classic and now 51 years later......... another glimpse of the Madman across the water.

    • @johnthorne4093
      @johnthorne4093 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, Brandi and her band nail it. Almost shocking: she demonstrates she's a better singer than Elton... in a way, he is dethroned... not really, though. EACH of their versions ascend to the heavens.

    Awesomely tight band, killer vocals, stellar arrangement and all on a song most people don't have the balls to even play let alone make it sound like it's their own original composition. This is how covering a song is supposed to be. If you can't reinvent the piece and, yet, still pay homage to it then don't touch it. Bravo!

      She has amazing vocal skills and range.And people who write and sing&play an instrument Don't usually have to go through the motions like a young pop star singing something that lends no life experience. young people invest in an instrument. Singer-songwriter people are the smartest people in the bizz. And there's 3 in this band.And the brothers are the main songwriters.But they are what's called an happy accident.I don't prefer her covers.But Brandi Carlisle is an amazing human being period.I did reserch on her. Dug and dug. After I found out the story was written b4 she met the brothers.And I was really bothered by the fact that I had put her on a pedestal.In reality I learned thing's about her,that I had and had done as well.Shes a solid soul&That gets me out of bed when I don't feel like it. Because she over came the odds.

      @@@utbabee Actually, Gus Dudgeon produced the album and thus the track. Paul Buckmaster scored the strings exactly as they're played here. Most of EJ' 70s work featured Buckmaster's-- well masterful arrangements. There's also a take of this track (a bonus on some CDs) with a young Mick Ronson (later of Bowie and Bob Dylan fame) on lead guitar. The guitar work at the end here sounds quite a bit like his lead-work on that demo. Almost everything played here adheres really closely to the original version/s from 1971. It's a great performance, but it would also be interesting to hear her (and other artists) rework a classic song like this.
