I want to add that you have to get oxygen in the body and get that blood flowing to the organs. Rescue breaths are necessary but no one wants to put their mouth on another stranger. But if you want to save someone's life, give rescue breaths. Also, try to buy a defibrillator for your house or apartment. They are expensive but it's worth it since it takes EMTs 30 minutes to 1 hour to get to you and the patient only has 15 minutes tops. There is a difference between what people want to do and what people have to do. We can't keep lowering standards because survival rates in American hospitals are dropping.

Yes defibrillators are a valuable and necessary part of CPR in cardiac arrest cases. I started my nursing over 22 years ago, in CPR training we was taught to do mouth to mouth, but as years went on, new research said it basically added no benefits in adding oxygen to the lungs and they cut out that part and only use chest compressions. If you do updated CPR training, they will not use mouth to mouth anymore.
