Yeah I love reptiles but I’m not paying more than 150 for one it’s just not worth it. I don’t care what went into breeding the animal that’s not my problem it’s his he wanted to breed. I’m not paying more than 50 for a ball python and no more than 70 for a bcc
I love that you don't care if the animal sells. It shows a lot about how much you love them. That smile when you said you were keeping a lot back was priceless, but........your wife is going to kill you!! 😂
i really appreciate that you are doing these great videos for people who are interested in bcc & bci, even though you don't yet have the attention that you deserve! however that just shows me that you are just making it because it's something you love! greetings from Germany, keep it going

I LOVE this video because it perfectly describes the internal struggles of breeders who actually care about their animals. It’s such a nice thing to see, because it’s not very common in the hobby. So many people only see dollar signs. I have myself down to 5 holdback crested geckos this season and that was torture to decide. I wish I could keep them all. 😬
I’m so happy you’re making videos again, as a new person to the hobby, I’ve found value in your videos, and hope to be an awesome breeder one day, I’ve learned a ton from your videos. Thanks for your hard work.
I’d would always shoot high with the price. I’ve never understood people who want to say something is priced too high. If you don’t like the price, keep on moving. They weren’t going to be buying anyway. Those people feel like they’re the price police.
What are the specifics on the boa you were holding there? I just got one from a reptile store out here in WA and he looks almost identical. (Smaller) thanks!
LOVE your videos man. You seem like a real down to Earth guy. Question: I cannot see many Tarahumara boas on Morphmarket, fauna, or kingsnake. Is there seriously that low of a supply of them or am I looking in the wrong place?
this is great advice. I have many of my corn snakes coming into breeding age next year and it will be my first time breeding snakes, and I may have the opportunity to breed a world's first even. I really don't know how well I am going to be able to sell my snakes. I have been making great connections for the last 2 years, and have started building that reputation. Mostly I am hoping that I can show that my snakes are stronger and healthier then most others.
That’s so necessary when breeding rare stuff. You need to have that reputation or it will be difficult for people to trust sending you big money without a reputation
You have nothing to apologize for. I looked at your website and saw several VERY affordable beautiful baby snakes. And frankly, if a person can't or won't put out a couple hundred for a pet then what's going to happen when it's time to go to the vet? Thanks for all the videos!
Thank you for explaining how a breeder prices the snakes he or she is selling. The prices certainly are rising. This does help me understand the process.
Great video and topic! Last year was my first time producing and selling animals with genetic combinations that had never been posted on MM before. Pricing was difficult but my approach is much the same as yours, and I sold everything except one I gave more of a "holdback price" that I'm happy to watch grow a little longer, and when she's bigger her price will be too lol. When I first got into hobby breeding I did not understand the full value of my animals and definitely made some mistakes. Quality animals = premium pricing!
I see this topic on other channels. People don't realize the expenses that breeders have. Food, shelter, heating, vet bills, time and labor. Electricity rates have nearly doubled in the last 2 years. If you house a bunch of snakes your electric bill will be through the roof. I see prices and say wow that's high but I understand. I bought a common Boa because he is in my price range. He is super cute, a little shy but I wouldn't trade him for anything. If you want to pay $$$$$ for a designer snake, that's cool too.
As a breeder of high quality pine island chahoua, this is really a good take and how I tend to price. It's hard with shifting markets though to really be sure though that my prices make sense in either direction! And I would always be annoyed at somebody flipping my animal immediately, because I feel like they just went through a hardship of being shipped, and then there is quarantine not being respected, etc. Less for the money aspect and more because I would feel like I did my best to vet a person's ability to care for the animal and then they turned around and got rid of it immediately.
i really like your videos. i have Burmese and boas and i was thinking about breeding them but i had no idea how will i sell them if i decided not to keep all of the babies. great video, i really appreciate your honesty.
What if you've only been breeding a couple years. I feel like most people are hesitant to pay the going price of animals if you don't have a reputation one way or the other. There are so many scammers out there, it makes it really hard to find customers. So I feel like if I offer them a lower price for a high quality animal it might ease their worries a little. But, the undercutting the market is a big deal, as you can hurt other breeders by doing so. Thanks for the video, really valid points and valuable information. ✌️
It’s hard. This is why I always recommend new breeders start with cheaper base morphs to burials the reputation. Once they have a name, they get the trust. It’s very difficult to seek high end animals with little reputation, even if you undercut the price
I know exactly what you mean I started producing babies in 2016 But I’ve kept boas for ova 20 years. And honestly from my first four seasons I had trouble getting a fair market value for my animals you are correct if you don’t have a name or a big TH-cam following or just have been breeding for 20+ years And everyone knows you example like a vin russo You do have trouble getting a fair price it wasn’t until literally this past season I started to get a fair price for most of my babies because I’m just now starting to build a reputation and also a lot of people go off of your morph market if you don’t have a good reputation on Morph market With good reviews people don’t want to deal with you so it’s definitely tough out there
Well to be fair and I'm a hobby ist. And for now I just have my 1 year and 7weeks old male Aberrant 66%het albino California Kingsnake. But he saved my life in a way (I was an addict and because off knowing I would get him I just quit) also I never find such a friendly, not scared at all kingsnake anymore. He's the friendliest snake there is. He NEVER musked on me or bit me. Even if someone says I give you all the money in world I still won't sell him. He saved my life, and I'm so grateful that I give him the best life ever! Also the bond we share is priceless. You can't put money on love. And I love this dude with whole my heart! I stand on a list for a black head python male too. And it has to be a baby. But it can take to damn 2 years. And it's in dollars like 1300 dollars I think. Here in western Europe they became common the last few years. Like 5 years ago it was like 3500 dollars.. It's just they are easy to get here now but I want one from this breeder particularly. And I have time. I recently bought a custom made wooden enclosure that was not cheap because its edited or how say it that it will never mold. Also UVB and damn everything you can imagine with it and was more than 1000 euros. But he deserves it. It's a fantastic enclosure! It will keep the heat in much better than glass enclosures. Also I let it made in the Netherlands and I live in Belgium. It's 120cm×50cm×50cm.
Hey Jason hope ur doin good. I have a question that is somewhat related to this topic. I was interested in getting an all black boa. I know there’s different combinations of IMG that get you there. Most popular seems to be the black devils, IMG BEA RDR as I’m sure you know, but they’re super expensive. I’ve seen postings of baby anery IMG boas for much less but I guess my question is does that mean it’ll get all black with the anery and IMG but not have the black eyes cuz it’s not BEA or how does that go? Also do you have IMG boas for sale ever? Thanks brotha
If you’re looking for a dark boa. See if you can See pictures of the parents. I have found that IMGs will get darker or lighter depending on the parents. Dark parents will usually produce dark babies. Unfortunately, they are just expensive. There shouldn’t be a huge difference between the Anerythristic IMG vs a BEA IMG. If you are dropping that kind of money, the breeder should be okay with showing you pics of the adults
I try to go for fair market, always. I have a 2018 female that I refuse to reduce the price on and people act like its too much. But she's breed ready. I've asked other breeders showed them pictures, one went up as high as 750 and another as low as 400. So I'm firmly in the middle. Like you said lol I'll keep her before I settle for a lowball offer.
This is a great video, although I'm hoping to not need this information. Sadly looking to rehome my big Dumerils girl. If the reliable, local people don't come through with an interest... ugh, I'm terrified that she'll go to the wrong home. This is hard enough as it is, I hear you. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks, Jason ❤
I can tell you right now that there is a huge demand for dumerils. You shouldn’t have any issues getting a great price and finding the home you want for her.
got my first boa in december i had it in a 40 gallon but now i got it in a 6x2x2. it was all cheaper than i expected, 200$ for the snake and the big enclosure was about 50 bucks to go grab some scrap.
Great video. That female Peruvian is unreal man. WOW. She is going to be huge too. I need to get back into a couple of BCC's. I bred my first BCC's way back in the early 90's and miss them.
Hey Jason I hope you and your family are safe and doing well love your videos man big fan of yours man keep up with these awesome amazing videos man big thumbs up 👍 👍👍👍
It seems that you use common sense when pricing your animals, which sadly many don’t possess. When shopping for any animal not just reptiles the buyers should be thinking hey they had to purchase their pairs to breed, feeding bills, husband, and all the necessary accessories , incubator , caging, cleaning supplies , and much more it’s a lot of time and love . We all want a deal but getting a new family member shouldn’t be the time to try to be super cheap. Honestly I can’t picture you ever trying to rip off anyone Jason. Thank you ever so much for sharing and best wishes always.
Haha that’s exactly it. All of this is a luxury. If the animal is priced right, someone will buy it, but everyone has their limit on what something is worth to them vs what Elise they could use the money for.
a cow retic is genuinely my dream snake, they're so beautiful but the prices are the opposite LMAO. But at the same time, I can't disagree with some of those prices... I think the price tag on that morph and snake is genuinely well deserved
Oh I have no complaints; that’s the society we live in, capitalism so if I want to sell my snake at whatever price it’s my doing (albeit anything unreasonable will probably just go unsold anyway) I have a signed Darth Vader helmet, signed by James Earl Jones, made out to me, which is (I guess) a rarity. I was chatting with people about it online and I said sure I’ll sell it, said I want $100,000 jokingly. Low and behold later on someone saw the comment and contacts me asking if I still had it. (You see it was written out to me (my first name) and yes I have the proof needed for authenticity. . But to a true Star Wars fan with the same name i have, and them lotsa money to burn, $100K apparently isn’t unreasonable for the helmet. I thought how ridiculous, all that money for a darth Vader helmet signed by JEJ, but fact is if I wanted to sell it for 100K and I had a buyer, there is nothing immoral or illegal about it. It’s may be ridiculous of an asking price but it isn’t illegal. Just look at some of the dumb things that go to auction for insane prices.
Hey Jason I was wondering could you please do a care video on burmese python care man love your videos man and keep up the good work that you are doing Jason 👍👍👍👍
She helps me clean and I think by know she seems me moving some of the babies from my for sale rack to my raise up rack. I just show her and hope she say, “that’s a pretty one”. Lol
Of course. There could also be circumstances where a month or two later someone’s situation changes and they need to sell. That has happened to me in the past where their family member dies and they needed to sell their house possession etc.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles I don't really consider that flipping so much as a rehome. Flipping is more like acquiring an animal for the sole purpose of selling it to make a profit.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles I see people in the Facebook groups posting that they're in search of animals and shortly after you see them posting animals of the same type for sale that's obvious flipping. And they always say the same garbage about how they lost their collection and they're just trying to collect whatever's out there smh
I just had a clutch of bp's that I'm also in the air with. I want those females, but a couple friends also want those females lol. I already have the space setup for them to stay even tho I know I can get above average coin for them. Just figured in the future it leaves room for some trading.
Those would be my keepers for sure. People will argue to sell them and buy something with the money, but I honestly trust my animals more than what I get from others.
I always feel that when someone blows out animals cheap they have cut corners somewhere. I like a fair price but when someone has passion for their animals and I feel like they have sparred no expense im willing to pay more.
When something is sold. That moment it is theres. Wether they light it on fire or make tens of thousands. It is none of your concern now. Thats how I role in life.
Thank you. And I would agree. I tend to price on the higher side but I also take average photos. I’d like to think that if people saw them in person after they buy them they are blown away versus the picture they bought it from. I know a lot of people out there edit their photos which leads to disappointment upon arrival. I’m not saying that’s the every day thing but I feel that I know what my animals are worth and I also semi-feel responsible for setting the market price for others. I tell Kevin at NERD all the time as well that he sets the bar. If he prices something for $1000, unless somebody has an incredible animal that Blows his away, people will price out $1000 and under.
My biggest thing I've noticed Is I know what I want and check out Morph market or FB groups and I find A gorgeous snake and is priced too good to be true or priced same or close to others but never heard of this breeder or they do not have any websites or many reviews. Is it better to buy that snake for a great price or stay with breeders you know produce high quality and know every aspect of it's genetics without fear. the unknown breeder is just telling you what you want to hear. So how do you know ?
That’s really a decision and a risk the buyer needs to take. I personally stick with my few trusted breeders. I always tell new breeders to breed animals that are basic, cheaper animals. Build a reputation off of the smaller dollar stuff before you jump into the 1k+ animals. People will take risks on a snake that is a few hundred. A few thousand is a different story. I personally would never drop that kind of cash with someone with little to no reputation
@@JasonsExoticReptiles yeah just watched your breeder video few minutes ago where you said that. As A business owner but in the Mechanic Field I know I tell people yeah you might find cheaper but might pay more in the long run. but new to the whole reptile life. So IMO it is thinking if I buy from someone more people know down the road just by chance I ever do decide to breed it would be better plus i know for certain whether it is wild or captive bred. the only thing I have zero clue is it better to buy a nicer male or female if I ever decide to breed witch is more important for breeding. also keep up the great videos. some of the best on TH-cam
Most people I’ve seen simply sell them to the highest bidder. No price tag and when asked about it they ask how much you’re willing to offer. These are usually the $10k+ snakes
This is exactly why I’ll never breed, I just wouldn’t be able to part with them. Doesn’t matter if its chickens, rats or rabbits. I suck at breeding because I don’t have mindset to be able to part with them. I’m not a sappy tree hugger lol I don’t “fall in love” with all snakes. I just quit trusting myself years ago to let any go. Too sentimental, I suppose.
I would just like a pure Suriname Boa, but everything is a cross. I think a pure strain boa is harder to come by; because, way to many crossing genes. The morphs are more common than a pure anything boa.
Pure bcc are also much harder to breed and the stock is usually from Wild caught animals with don’t really thrive. Myself and a few others do breed them but the prices are also higher for the reasons mentioned above. It just takes a lot more skill and time to establish a breeding group of pure BCc
Why would somebody comment that you are ripping people off, if they can't afford a Lambo they should stick with a Hyundai! I would never sell any of my snakes for cheep prices, I bust my ass taking care of these animals and it costs a lot of money as well, it's not bad to expect to be compensated.
Correction these are not rare animals these may be rare genetic mutation aka morphs but it is still essentially the same animal. I don't understand how you can get a normal ball python for $10 when you can get a genetically modified and inferior ball python for thousands of dollars because it is cool looking. I just don't get it. I love snakes I just don't understand the morphs and the outrageous prices.
Lmao you can sell a snake for triple it's cost because someone wants that species. Value is only in the eye of the buyer. Shoot high or don't sell at all
Here a question for you...I was recently on your website looking a the boas you have for sell.....im a simple person an all that het % an blah blah confused the fuck outta me an I'm over here just wanna know are they bci or bcc an what local they are, morph ain't my thing simple an plain is always better
In my opinion if you consensually sell something out to someone, you’ve already given up and transferred every and all proprietary rights to the new owner, and they have the full right to do whatever they want with it! They can keep, raise, breed, kill, flip, loan, or even feed it to their dog! (Morality and legality are not always in accord!) So why would you be bothered or even care if someone resells what you already have been paid for?! Well, you had your fair time and chance to ask for more (as long as there’s someone out there you could sell it to for the asked price), but it was your personal sober choice then! All due respect, I find your pricing strategy of putting a price tag on the animals “by your heart”, rather illogical and hypocritically materialistic! To be honest, when I saw the very same ad on MM that you’re referring to in this video, I laughed so hard, just comparing the huge difference (more than two grands) between your ad and the next more expensive boa in the same category! Now, I understand all about rarity and morphs and localities, but the pricing gap should be justifiable by a sane mind!!!
Per your first sentence in the comment, it was my animal and I priced where I wanted to price. It sold which means that the buyer also found the price appropriate. Keep in my that there were no others like it on MM and the reference to the other animals you are referring to was also most likely mine and not recent. Can’t go comparing the housing market from two years ago to now. I see them like watches in some respect. Just because two years ago that Patek was selling for 50k doesn’t mean that patek will well today for 50k. The seller sets the price and the buyer sets the market. If the market wasn’t there then the price I wanted wouldn’t have been paid and I would still have the boa. I’m not going to lower the price to more than it’s worth to me just to fall in line. You call that hypocritical materialistic, I see it was the back bone of my business. I’m not sure if you have a dog or pet but just because your dog is worth $1000 to me doesn’t mean you would sell to me for $1000. I see this as nothing different.
I’m not a breeder, but I think people forget that the cost has to also include the time and the care the breeder puts into the snakes as well.
Absolutely. That's a big part of it
I agree
YES. It's so much effort, time and money along with learned skill having to be applied.
If evert hour got counted I would be rich lol
Yeah I love reptiles but I’m not paying more than 150 for one it’s just not worth it. I don’t care what went into breeding the animal that’s not my problem it’s his he wanted to breed. I’m not paying more than 50 for a ball python and no more than 70 for a bcc

Fair value for the snake: 1500$. My emotional attachment: 2000$. Perceived rareness: 2500$. Final price? 1500 + 2000 + 2500 = 6000$
Haha.
got my first boa in december i had it in a 40 gallon but now i got it in a 6x2x2. it was all cheaper than i expected, 200$ for the snake and the big enclosure was about 50 bucks to go grab some scrap.
Bro the resell aspect goes with so much
Great video. That female Peruvian is unreal man. WOW. She is going to be huge too. I need to get back into a couple of BCC's. I bred my first BCC's way back in the early 90's and miss them.
Thank you!! She is definitely my favorite Peruvian I produced.
Hey Jason I hope you and your family are safe and doing well love your videos man big fan of yours man keep up with these awesome amazing videos man big thumbs up 👍 👍👍👍
Thank you!!
I respect that.
Thank you!!
I know I wanted badly a cow retiq python, until I saw the prices of a certain popular breeder, and I said naaa, I’ll take the corvette instead. :-)
Oh I have no complaints; that’s the society we live in, capitalism so if I want to sell my snake at whatever price it’s my doing (albeit anything unreasonable will probably just go unsold anyway)
I have a signed Darth Vader helmet, signed by James Earl Jones, made out to me, which is (I guess) a rarity.
I couldn't be a snake dealer. One look at their cute little face and I would be nope! I'm keeping all of them.
Hey Jason I was wondering could you please do a care video on burmese python care man love your videos man and keep up the good work that you are doing Jason 👍👍👍👍
I have it on the list.
I haven't sold many, but it always felt like losing a family member, wonder if there is a 12 step program for snake keepers? Lol.
Quality cost 💰 you get what you pay for
awesome 📹 Jason
1,000 bucks the snake is beautiful, about to feed my baby albino corn snake for the first time today any advice ?????
Congrats on your new snake. Only advice I can give is to use tongs and not your fingers to feed them the prey
👍
Need you to get into rainbow boas man!
I’ve thought about it.
hi Jason just wondering what stays smaller between a hog island,Nicaraguan and a Sonoran boa, thanks.
I would say Sonoran, then Nic and hog are tied.
Your wife probably knows without watching the video. Women know their s.o very well. At least mine does.😂
She helps me clean and I think by know she seems me moving some of the babies from my for sale rack to my raise up rack. I just show her and hope she say, “that’s a pretty one”. Lol
I'd be pissed if someone flipped a snake they got off me regardless of what I sold it for.
Jason I'm in the market to buy one of boa could you send a list please
Everything available at the moment is on the website. Www.jasonsexoticreptiles.com. Let me know if you see anything you like!
I just had a clutch of bp's that I'm also in the air with. I want those females, but a couple friends also want those females lol. I already have the space setup for them to stay even tho I know I can get above average coin for them. Just figured in the future it leaves room for some trading.
Those would be my keepers for sure. People will argue to sell them and buy something with the money, but I honestly trust my animals more than what I get from others.
what size cage will a hypo boa need?
It’s like a stock once you make your decision to buy or sell you can’t get emotional about it.
I always feel that when someone blows out animals cheap they have cut corners somewhere. I like a fair price but when someone has passion for their animals and I feel like they have sparred no expense im willing to pay more.
Thank you sir!!! Excellent video!!!!
When something is sold. That moment it is theres. Wether they light it on fire or make tens of thousands. It is none of your concern now. Thats how I role in life.
I find ur prices are in fact, slightly high but not to the moon hi. But hey u got ur name out there now so it's well deserved
What's the most you've ever paid for a snake?
Prob about 12k
We Use a Similar Process in our Business
So
IMO it is thinking if I buy from someone more people know down the road just by chance I ever do decide to breed it would be better plus i know for certain whether it is wild or captive bred. the only thing I have zero clue is it better to buy a nicer male or female if I ever decide to breed witch is more important for breeding. also keep up the great videos. some of the best on TH-cam
Haha. That’s people lol
I'm telling her to watch atleast 7 minutes 🤣
Lmao
how to properly hold reticulated phyton from wild
Cheap snakes end up with horrible keepers.. Not always but its never worth the risk.
Time and resources spent on the snake first and then supply and demand.
I honestly feel like a man should set his price and not worry about another mans pockets 🤷🏻♂️ thats just me tho
I’m with you on that!!
(Morality and legality are not always in accord!)
So why would you be bothered or even care if someone resells what you already have been paid for?!
That audio....
