The Wedding/Vacation trip story; Our OP has made a terrible error; they worked hard, got a good education and jobs that pay well. In many families resentment and envy of any family member that makes more money than everyone else is a "rich snob" instantly, and is expected to "Help" the less successful by giving them the things that they worked hard to get. It's just plain greed and entitlement
