Coldest take ever, but the faction Codex books should just be lore books, that gets updated from time to time as lore has grown and expanded enough to warrant it, but that no longer needs to be tied to the editions. I love having a physical codex to browse through, so I dont want them gone altogether, but the current system is super dumb. :D
At this point, yea you are right. I miss the days of accurate rules in the codex. But then, I also miss divergent chapters having full codexes instead of just supplements. Sure, it locked you out of certain units, but that kinda added to the different chapters being different.
I just want them to stop lying. Telling us the rules would be free - "Oh, we just meant the first book. After that you can't dare look at a bolt pistol and a chainsword without spending $80"
That’s not a cold take. A lot of people have been asking for this since the beginning of 10th with the balance updates, free indexes and rules. Me included.
Paint guides would be cool too (like I know my way around a brush but for many people having simple to follow instructions using citadel paints would be great).
The Adepta Sororitas detachment felt kind of mean, really. GW was like "Here's a cool and flavourful detachment all about spending a lot of miracle dice. Oh also, we're halving your miracle dice generation for the whole faction."
5:58 the notion is just...absurd to me. I am relatively new to warhammer, but I have been a big dnd player for decades. It took WotC a long time to figure out a reasonable way to release their content digitally, but they found it, which is wild, because they don't have a physical product to bend people over and shake their pockets out with the way GW does. I mean, GW makes the vast majority of their money from the models, it has to be. I can't imagine a world where that isn't true. But instead of selling digital copies of the books, a product line with wildly good return on investment, they're doing this stupid crap. I'll just never understand it. WotC made the 5e rules free under creative commons and they're still printing money with dndbeyond.
Their main expenditure is the fact that, rather than ship all of their miniature production overseas to china. They all do it in country which is an admirable thing to do.And it is why their prices are so high
@@LordOfAllVikings I agree that it's admirable for sure, and it must raise the cost of production compared to doing it in China. However, Victrix, Perry Miniatures, Warlord Games, all make their plastic miniatures in the UK, all 3 with Renedra as far as I'm aware. And the models are, in my opinion, almost, if not just as good (especially Victrix are amazing) and far, far, far cheaper.
Hi Jay and Nick. Saw the prep note about M&M ep. 200 on Discord. Super excited about the costumes, pyrotechnics, and live exotic animals. Much love and godspeed.
It's nice to have some positive thoughts and opinions about 40k. I see a lot of channels complaining about the state of the game, but I'm really enjoying it
A lot of people complain about the "competitive" focus of the rules and balance and I get it. But nothing is stopping anyone from playing casually/narratively (with my friends we've been playing a ton of 1000 point games and it's been really fun 🤷♂️)
For the sisters detachment, I like the idea ... on paper. In reality, it doesn't work thanks to the miracle dice nerf and the fact that the buff is weak. It's not re-rolls. It's +1 ws/bs (and movement and morale) for a small sub-section of units ... which is something the default detachment gives you for loosing a single sister.
Yea, the det has a sub 30% win rate (small sample size though, not a lot are using it) which drops the overall winrate of the Sisters from 42% to ... 41%. Looks like GW want's Sisters to keep Agents company.
With the arrival of The Old World I have been painting Bretonnia (I rescued them from some friends who had them abandoned on shelves), and it has been a lot of fun. Each knight is like a small design project, I have asked friends to design some, making some of soccer teams (long live Betis!). I've even sculpted new helmet ornaments to fit each one's heraldry. Super fun stuff, highly recommended
In the december update, the miracle dice for sisters were completely gutted, which in turn made some of the detachments, including the new one pretty dang bad. Who ever wrote the new detachment was not talking with the other team. Their nerf was ridiculously overhanded as the miracle dice isn't just used to substitute rolls, but to also power stratagems and unit abilities and cutting 2/3 of the MD income completely screws over the the internal balance and dynamics. I thought the Ork nerf was bad, but this is on a completely new level. I'm sure they'll pull back on some of the nerfs, but we'll see.
The Slaanesh detachment let's you reroll hit and wound rolls if you waive "fights first". The wound rerolls are massive as almost every unit hands out devastating wounds.
... how could you enjoy ALL the detachments? The Adepta Sororitas detachment is literally terrible, it does everything worse than 2 of the others and is completely non-functional with how reliant it is on miracle dice, after miracle dice were removed.
miracle dice were gutted, we get probably 1/3rd or even fewer than we used to per game; now we're expensive guard with no leman russ (ok im packing a bit of a sad but it was already a tricky army to play!)
I don't play big 40k but I figured out recently you can take Navy Breachers alongside Grey Knights and I've been thinking about building a list. I have the Breachers and a Hexfire Box.
Jay, the on my position affects any unit in engagement range with your unit and it can be used on any unit. Best unit to use it on is a big blob of Krieg
GW: Focus more on easily accessible digital rules. Have me pay per year for access. Have different price points. For instance, have a sub that opens just 5 factions for those who just want access to the armies they play and the core rules. Have another that unlocks all factions etc. If GW wants more players they need to make it more accessible and lower entry costs.

Field manual released before grotmas and sister miracle dice generation got nuked. They're now making significantly less dice and the new detachment is worse for it. I was super excited because the sacresants are my favorite models but eh. 😕
To catch up with the industry norms, they should have free rules for everything and then they sell books as made to order runs like twice a year so people who want them, can get them
I like the codexes but I want them to continue leaning in to codexes being fluff, art, and painting guides for various sub armies. Also I agree app needs to either be free with codex code or subscription and no codex code.
My favorite Grotmas Detachment is Chaos Knights, hands down. I love the feel of big stompy knights sacrificing their mortal chaff followers to power up. And I don’t even play the army.
Perhaps we should detach to novels from the game? I have no use for the board games. I like the video games. Perhaps it’s too big to combine the three and be successful? I’m ready, after 30 years of read, to see a revival and new crusade. It seems like, the necron, tau, tyranids, the warp, etc…. Are too O.P. it’s gotten too hopeless. It’s really causing me to lose all faith in the marines. They don’t seem so bad axx now. Something positive needs to happen!
