Broadway's THE OZ PROJECT: A Tribute to The Wizard of Oz & The Wiz

- The Oz Project, a love letter to The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz, was created and performed by Broadway’s diehard Oz fans, including Kate Rockwell, Joshua Henry, Rob McClure and more. The video was released on August, 25th, 2016 - the same date The Wizard of Oz hit movie theatres nationally in 1939.
Directed by Sean Barrett, the cast includes Rockwell and Brynn Williams as Dorothy, Henry and Ben Jacoby as the Lion, McClure and James T. Lane as the Scarecrow, Grasan Kingsberry and Ryan VanDenBoom as the Tin Man, Nancy Opel and Jennie Harney as Glinda, Liz Larsen as the Wicked Witch of the West, Mykal Kilgore as Evillene and Patrice Covington as Addaperle with Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Natalie Joy Johnson, Ashlee Dupre, Alan Wiggins, Julia Knitel, Marty Thomas, Louis Jones and Gabrielle Reed.
The ten-minute music video follows the parallel journeys of Dorothy in each adaptation as they both get whisked away in the same tornado, land in their respective versions of Oz and follow their own yellow brick road. Their stories are interwoven with highlights from each classic score to show that everyone goes on the same journey regardless of their race, religion, gender, or sexuality in search of the same ideals: Love, Home, Wisdom, and the Courage to be yourself.
The creative team also includes Matt DiCarlo (assistant director), Jason Michael Webb (musical arrangements) and James Harkness (choreography). Walter Krueger is the project’s producer.
I imagined that two dorothys met each other than became best friends and hug to each other.
Keep finding things to love about this. I love both lions first of all. Jitterbug. The wicked witches. The Dorothys hugging
That's Dorothy Gale all over; she has this amazing ability to make friends. Nearly everyone she meets ends up being her friend, even some characters who started out as bad guys, like Ugu the Shoemaker.

Playing them back to back, it's clear The Wiz has more powerful tracks. I love both, but I think the wiz is stronger.
Edit: Nothing from the Wizard of Oz ever made me cry. And for the most part, I didn't cry listening to The Wiz. But Diana Ross and Stephanie Mills performances of Home did make me cry, and this rendition didn't fail either.

There are other stage adaptations of the story, and I'd love to see some of them worked in. One that I like better than either the MGM musical or "The Wiz" is called "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," and was created by Joe Cascone and the late James P. Doyle in 2000.
This is great, but I wish there was more interaction between the two sets of characters, and certainly more than a token appearance by the Wizards.

Loved it all except Evillene. smdh 🤔 Nope nope nope. Poor choice of casting. I wanted to see a female and not a damn man with a beard and muscles. Totally ruined it for me so I'm gonna have to give this one to The Wizard of OZ team.
