    You're having a pretty standard pre-2020 cruise experience. ships are 90-100% full, lines are usually long everywhere, reservations needed for most everything, gotta get there early for seating for shows, etc. There are lots of videos pre-2020 about cruising you should watch about ships you may go on in the future

      Longtime cruiser here. The issues with testing and lines are avoidable with advance planning. Crew and passengers also may not wish to be filmed as witnessed on this cruise.

      You’re certainly right. But to be fair, I never had this issue when I had a set time or if I had a reservation for my time dining. He unfortunately learned the hard way that you can’t just walk up on MTD.

    I'm a nurse and I have a personal story for you:
    I was vaccinated as early as it was possible. I've been woking with COVID patients since August (when I got my first job as a nurse) and I've been ok the entire time... until June 15th. I felt horrible and I tested positive for COVID. The feeling of being sick came on pretty quickly and when i think back I think of all the people I'd been around and I didn't have a mask on. I was working but I was asymptomatic which can have been from 3-14 days. (I always wore a mask when interacting with patients).
    In a way, having a COVID test before a cruise isn't a perfect solution to keeping everyone safe, but it's going to catch the people who are positive and asymptomatic. So, imagine going on a 3-5 day cruise, everyone's fine, nobody is sick... but someone was positive without symptoms and now everyone's been exposed.
    Now imagine that asymptomatic person was you. If you were on the Adventure and it was at 100% capacity you would have exposed 4,058 passengers and 1,180 crew. Not all of those people are in perfect health. How many would go home, get sick, and not make it. How many would go home, give it to family and friends?

One daughter even missed her graduation for getting her Doctorate of medicine because she cane down with covid because my aunt went in a cruise and caught covid from someone. That’s a big moment to miss out on and it’s not every day someone in your family becomes a doctor.

    I'm a healthcare provider and I've managed to dodge covid for 2 1/2 years...until today. I'm sooooo sick. This new strain evades current vaccines and boosters, so I believe they do still need to test, but I don't believe passengers should have to pay such a high price to get tested since it's mandated. I believe it should be part of the cruise price.

    • @kristin6338

      Making the cost of the cruise $105 dollars higher would force everyone pay the rate for last-minute testing instead of incentivizing them to be tested prior to arrival. Kyle clearly states they could have been tested ahead of time, but then goes on to complain about the on-site rates. It makes absolutely no sense and people like you validating his baseless complaints doesn't help anyone

  • @paulras01

    Having caught covid on a ship and seeing MANY friends catch it on other cruise ships, anything that reduces the number of infected passengers helps. It's quick and easy and doesn't really cost anything if you set up testing ahead of time. I think they should keep the testing until after the next winter wave.

    • @Molbyone
      @Molbyone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d rather them keep the testing but drop the vaccine requirement.
      Unless they require boosters of having your last shot within a certain time frame, it’s completely moot since the vaccine does basically nothing to slow the spread after a year or more from the last dose.

    I think the testing is more to protect the crew, cruise lines can't risk to have their whole crew catch covid and be forced to close business. Passengers go home after a few days but the crew is there with a 4 to 8 months contract and even if tests stop being required in the US it will still mandatory for other parts of the world and that includes many independent islands.

    My time dining is great, but you need to make sure you book a time and not just show up without a reservation. Cruising used to have a 6 and 8 seating and that was all you could choose from. Then Royal created the my time which made it so you could eat when you wanted from 5:30 to 9ish, but it is always best to book the time you want to eat! meaning you can book a 5:30 one night and then 6:45 the next, but if you don't book the time you want in advance and just show up when everyone else is ready to eat and also did not book, then you may have to wait until a table becomes available!

  • @emilygonzalez7918

    My opinion is the same as Laura, they should include the covid test price in the cruise package and do it themselves! 100 dlls for a test we get for free is outstanding and helping those companies take advantage of the situation...

  • @esciteach7997
    @esciteach7997 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Just to let everyone know: THERE WERE OTHER PLACES TO EAT THAT HAD NO WAIT. There are the "fancy" dining areas where you pay up to $50/PER PERSON to eat; and there are the FAST FOOD ALWAYS AVAILABLE. My son and I are not fussy, and eating pizza/pasta/burgers/fries every night was fine with us; if we were told the alternative was a 2 hour wait. Again, there are (were) alternatives to waiting 2 hours.

    Hi Kyle, I'm with Lora, it would be nice for the test to be included in Cruise price. Having to get tested before boarding adds an insane amount of anxiety for me. I can't get over that ship - beautiful. Lora finished her drink before you, what?! HOW, how do you only have a back pack!? Wow, nice room, lots of space 👍 Long wait for dinner but a nice table by the window & the food looked delicious. Great kick off to the series!!

    Hey 👋🏻 Kyle. My 2 cents on the COVID testing…I think it’s great that they’re still doing the tests because they’re allowing cruisers to be maskless. However, charging customers a whopping $105 bucks for the test is kinda ridiculous. They’re just robbing from ya.
    All the shows on Royal Caribbean ships are really good the last time I was on it. They really do have great productions.
    Man oh man on the dinner waiting time!!! That’s crazy. I’m glad we know what my time is like from your experience the next time we cruise.

    NCL is going to be dropping the covid test for its sailings in other countries, but no the US. I wonder how much longer it would take for everyone to get on the ship if we all tested at the port. Less stressful to get tested before hand, but great to have the backup plan of testing at port. Despite the long dinner wait, it looks like you to are having a great time. Can't wait to see CocoCay! Here's a tip some cruise TH-camrs have done. You can go online and order a set of home tests with remote proctoring for something like $120 for 5 tests and you can just keep those on hand. Whenever you need a test you open their app and it'll connect you to a nurse that will monitor you as you test - this is every bit as official as going to Walgreens or getting the test in front of the cruise terminal and it comes out to around $24 per test this way.

  • @chipmunki3

    I don't think I'd go on a cruise right now if they didn't require COVID testing. I've had way too many friends who are fully vaxed and boosted but still get COVID in the past couple of months that it's just too much to risk. There was even a cruise vlog recently where someone got COVID while on a cruise ship, essentially their entire floor got it, COVID can spread so fast when people are all packed into these spaces and so many people aren't willing to get vaccinated that I personally wouldn't feel comfortable going on a ship where people weren't required to at least get tested.

    The booze, the food? What’s the fascination with cruising. Is the entertainment worth it? The cramped rooms, the exposure to germs? Why do this? I’m considering cruising one day, so I’m asking in all sincerity. Thanks!

    We don’t eat in the dining room anymore. We just go to buffet or specialty dining.

  • @cfamily4444
    @cfamily4444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    If you’re getting rid of one of the two why would it be the testing and not the vax? You had covid while being fully vaccinated and it went through your whole apartment. Travel is a luxury, and it always comes at the risk of getting sick. That’s just reality. We should be free to assess the risks on our own at this point.

      Totally agree. The testing doesn't bother me as much as the vaccine requirements.

    Pro tip, I never eat in the main dining room in a cruise ship. I always just go to one of the restaurants that are included or the Windjammer. Also you can pick a dining time and not go if you don’t want to.

    When you got off this cruise, I was boarding a 4 night cruise on Virgin Cruise line. My cruise was full but night and day customer service compared to your experience. First there are no kids allowed (18 and over cruise), specialty dining is included so I got to have a different 4 star dinning experience every night, lots of staff there to accommodate you with drinks or food. No one stood in any lines for anything (not even a drink). You need to do a Virgin cruise and you will never want to cruise Royal or Carnival again. Not to mention Richard Branson boarded the cruise at the end and brought everyone a shot in the restaurant he was eating at.

    Covid isn’t going anywhere so the tests shouldn’t be going anywhere lol. It’s really not as big of a hassle for the tests (if done timely) but it should absolutely be included in your cruise fare. It’s just a new way of living.

    I agree with requiring covid test to get on the ship but it should be included in the price. I feel it is kinda unethical for them to price hike the price of the test.

    Yep, with My Time, you need a res or it's first come first serve. It's either first seating or the buffet for me.
    Norwegian does this the best.
