How Apocalypses Paved the Way for Humans (and terror birds) | Nat Geo Explores

  • Everybody thinks mass extinctions are a bad thing. As much as they eliminate life, they also helped trigger the creation of new species. By studying fossils from the Big Five mass extinctions, we can learn how life was able to bounce back and see what this could mean for humans in future mass extinctions.

I was reading a book specifically about the topic of extinction. It did claim that the first five mass extinctions were mostly caused by climate change due to various factors. No doubt that will still be the case for the sixth. What is alarming is the rate in which extinctions are happening in our time. Life managed to continue from the previous mass extinctions because the surviving species are able to adapt to the new environment, and new species were able to take the role of those that were lost.
Exctinctions did not happen overnight, nor in a century. It took million of years in between each extinction event. However, we lost approximately 80 species in a period of 100-300 years during our time, the normal rate based on what scientists can gather from the previous events, is that one species is eliminated every 400 years. I guess the problem is if nature can fill the gap with a faster rate of disappearances from multiple species.
I only said what I learned from that book, I am by no means an expert on any field of science, just sharing what I picked up.

I just love how theories are taught as facts? 😒🙄 Science advances steadily, and we disprove theories, and create new ones. I don't mind hearing the theories. I just don't understand how you can teach something as fact, without actually having proof of it. It has to be measured before making factual statements.

Stop all these nonsense theories. Stop explaining meaningless evolution. Everything was created by the One and Only Allah. Everything will return to him as well. Only Allah knows everything. Why, how, when, what, where, everything is within His knowledge. Everything is under His control. And you have to answer only for your deeds, nobody else, not even for your parents or your children. Just believe in Allah and follow His commandments. He will teach you the exact lesson, show you the right path, give you the real answer.
