    Quail are very private when sitting on eggs. She might have been successful if she had her own little space .

      Totally agree. This quail has successfully hatched quail chicks and helped with raising quail chicks hatched from the incubator this year. She’s one of my favorites.

    The whole setting for brooding eggs seems overly crowded to me-there should be some privacy for brooding hens to concentrate on the job of making her chicks.

      Agree. I have learned my lesson. I have a broody quail again. This time I'm not moving her. I blocked the area to give her some privacy. Thanks for your comment.

      Yes. Next time I would move the nesting box to stop a quail from broody.

    You should have a very large cage or aviary for your quails if you want to breed them. Also it is helpful to have Live real grass and maybe some other plants like shrubs or other plants that can give the hen a comfortable place to sit under.they

      I tried to grow grass once and quail destroyed them. I just use sand for the floor now. It’s easy to clean. My quail seem to like current setting with two levels and lots of hiding places. I wasn’t planning to breed them as winter is here and the feed cost is high. But I got another broody quail. We’ll see if she’s going to hatch any baby chicks.

    You should never move the nest to a new spot. It might work with chickens but it doesn’t work for other birds.

      Thanks for your kind comments. I like your idea. I have put two hens with the broody quail two days ago. The next day the broody quail wasn’t in the nesting area anymore. It turned out she was kicked out by one of the hens. I don’t know how long she has left the eggs unattended. Hopefully she’ll have a few babies hatched. Next time I’ll be careful picking the hens to be with the broody quail. Or just let the broody quail by herself.

    Typically Domestic coturnix quails aren't good brooders, as they are typically incubated via an incubator, so lack the getting raised by a bird mother, self brooding happens but not often, best chance would be set a trio 1-male, 2- females in a over grown weedy large pen, then one may go broody and stay. But best just to get a couple small bantam chicken hens like Serama, they are more reliable brooders, and a good size chicken breed to care for small quail chicks, also quails chicks raised by a Serama hen, may make it more likely they would be better brooders, as most Domestic coturnix quail are raised in incubators and not raised by a bird mother.

      Thanks for your comment. Good to know bantam chickens can hatch quail. My town only allows 6 hens. So getting more chickens is out of the reach for me. Recently I had a quail hatched 3 baby chicks (1 of them died most likely from the attack from other adult quail). I have recorded in a series of broody quail in winter videos.

    When she was brooding, you should not change anything.

      You female to male ratio seems to be high. Female quail will be stressed out when there’re too many males. You need to get more female quail.

    • @daisyycolburn777
      @daisyycolburn777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're not supposed to have two males at the same spot or else they will keep fighting and hurting each other. You need to get more female quails for the other male and keep them separated.

    • @QuailandHobbies
      @QuailandHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daisyycolburn777 All of my quail are in the same aviary. I do see the males fighting with each other for females. It was a problem during spring breeding season. Most of the times they're okay. I have to think about a way to keep them from fighting when spring comes.

      Get another female and brake them into two 1-male, 2-females trios, or pick your best male and re-home the other. Or if you have the space, get more female so you have like 2- males, 10- females, the males then won't typically be bothered by each other, as there's enough females to go around.

    The reason why she won,t sit on her eggs anymore is because you moved here eggs probably. when a bird lays eggs that were they want to nest
