    Hi all. I have some sad news :-(. Mother Hen passed away overnight. She was a beautiful very friendly Golden Italian hen. Mother Hen be will sadly missed. If I ever have another hen like her I will post another video. Thank you everyone who has watched and appreciated my videos about Mother Hen. The chick that she hatched is still very much alive ;-)

      Za2k Nevills Thanks. I should have had the update up by now but my hard drive started dieing on me and my video editing program struggled to save it - probably due to it being 30 hr long HD. It will be worth watching for those interested in learning more about Japanese Quail behavior though. It should be up soon.

    This is veery very exciting I agree! I also have a broody coturnix quail right now and she has been for 14 days. She doesn't spend that much time on her eggs but I see the chicks are growing by candling. How was yours? Was she eating and sandbathing and spending time off the nest? She was spending a lot more time just sitting there at the beginning than she does now..wonder if she isn't a bit tired of waiting. How many did she finally hatch?? I'm very happy for you and i'm really hoping i'll get to live the same excitement of seeing my quail raising the little ones :)

      Thanks for your comment Maude. I've almost finished my next video about Mother Hen and her chick. Thanks for the questions.The answers to your questions are on the next video. I hope all went well and you have some little chicks to get excited about like I did :-) I would love to know if any chicks hatched. I am hoping my next video will give you some ideas on how to encourage your Hen Mum to keep sitting on her eggs.

      She finally quit after 16 days :( I put the eggs in the incubator and 2 seem to be developing. It might be my fault tho... I had to move her to a different cage since the first one was too small (she ended up pooping on her eggs from trying to keep it in :S) and she was in my grow room and I extended the lighting hours from 14h to 16h. I am so sad. If any hatch, I will try to show them to her see what she does. Can't wait to see your video!

      Maude Goupil-Léveillée Did any hatch? If so, did you show her? If so, what happened? I was thinking of introducing a newly hatched chick to Mother Hen and taking one of the eggs out but I am on the fence about it. Mother hen was such a good mum. Sorry for the late update. I should have it up soon.

      Raising Quails 2 hatched. I tried putting them back with the ex broody girl but it didn't last too long since she was acting completely freaked out. Turned out to be 2 little boys :)

    beautiful..i have some question i want to tame quail...can you keep the cage open if they are tamed so that they go out and come back free?
    2) both mom and dad quail sit on the egg ?
    3) what do they eat and what do u feed it?

    • @RaisingQuailsHREhrke_CJTQ
      @RaisingQuailsHREhrke_CJTQ  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The quail can get very tame especially when fed insects by hand at a young age so you can let them out, but you will have to keep a close watch if the area they go into is not enclosed from predators. Only Mum quail sits on the eggs.

    Thanks for posting this video. I am about to start raising my own quails. Right now Im building their holding area. I was told that it was unlikely for a quail to go broody. My question is; do you know which species of quails make the best hens for hatching eggs?

    • @RaisingQuailsHREhrke_CJTQ
      @RaisingQuailsHREhrke_CJTQ  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Reginald Roberts Hi Reginald, I am really glad you liked my video. I have only experience with Japanese Coturnix Quail and King/Button Quails. The Kings/Button Quail sit on their eggs and hatch young but not during winter in my experience. I read on the internet that Californian Quail do also. As far as the best hens for hatching, in my experience the Kings but only because I haven't any experience with Californian Quail or others that may sit and hatch their own young. I hope someone else who has a broader experience with the different species will be able to give you an answer. All the best with your building project.

      I have seen people using broody hens to hatch quails's eggs. if you have chickens, that's an option. Domestic quails? that's anyone's guess.

    do you house the hens separately? im pretty new to quail but it seems that if they become broody when alone in a cage. any thoughts on this?

    • @RaisingQuailsHREhrke_CJTQ
      @RaisingQuailsHREhrke_CJTQ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To help a hen sit on eggs, yes, you need to put her on her own. To become broody no.

      All I did with Mother Hen was move her to where she was alone and she decided to do the rest. Apart from the pellet food I gave all my C. J. Quail, they were also given on occasional seed and insects, including Mother Hen. I tried not to disturb her too much once I noticed her nesting. I did through some grass in her cage a few times for her to use as nesting material too when I noticed her sitting which she used.
      Thank you all again for your comments. I am keeping an eye on Mother Hen in case she wants to give you another video ;-) If you would like to see Mother Hen's chick growing up you may enjoy watching my follow up video:

    Have to mention I raise pepper quails and I have some trouble with my neighbors dog barking all the time and I got a device that keeps the dog away from my fence dog doesn't like this electronic device I have because it would constitute horrible sound that dogs don't like. And I found out and realize it was making my neighbor sick so this is the sound you don't hear a sound that works with the nervous system. It even makes a dog not never bark stop them in their tracks doesn't let them bark. Not to mention one of my quails name slinky she's a sweetheart where I can tell she's broody she wants to have babies because she's never mean but she's broody now because she wants to have babies because because she's mean right now and she's ferocious but we love her the same. Yours truly yours truly chicken man ed Brown

      Thanks for watching and what a great question ;-) ! Mother hen was 1 of about 25 other C. J. Quail I was given in January last year in 2014. They were all around 5 weeks old. Because of the amount of quail in the covey she was in, I'd say they were hatched in an incubator.

      Hi, Of what I can work out you are saying by Google Translate, you are asking if it is possible for these type of quail to sit and how to get them to want to sit? Yes, but rarely. It is possible to help a very broody quail with the right food and environment to sit but I feel it is impossible to help a quail who is not broody or who is out of her broodiness as fast as she was in it. Thank you for your question. I hope I answered your question properly and I hope you are able to translate my answer.
