Thanks for that version. This song has such a special meaning. When I heard this song years ago I was getting dressed for the funeral of one my closest friends. He was 24 when he died. It was so cloudy this day. With this song in my mind and heart, tears in my eyes I went to the funeral and suddenly the sun came up, as my friend would smile at us… so after all these years it’s still so hard to listen to this song, still so moving, making me so sad!

Hello .. one of my favourites .. your " oohs " are in a class of their own .. sound simple & everybody ( especially with a drink .. lol ) thinks they can sing those notes .. But some voices are just a part of the instrument .. I recently watched a compilation of the top coloraturas since film & recordings began .. mostly .. singing queen of the night .. stunning .. & in my obsession with Summertime .. Sam Cooke does two version's .. what a voice .. Sadly I am cursed with the ability to hear where the note is wrong & to hear it in my heart .. but .. I can only sing about 3 or 4 tones on the piano b4 my voice breaks & I either have to go up or down .. encouraged by Champagne I sang " Everytime we say Goodbye " Acapella .. in front of mostly musicians at our Wedding reception .. & I made it all the way thru until that last high note .. & everyone held their breath .. but I faltered & the whole room rocked with laughter .. when I choked on the note .. I should have dropped down & just whispered it .. oh well 25 years ago last may .. & the Ella Fitzgerald version is not easy .. lol .. ( worse it got caught on camera ) .. lol .. No 2nd takes .. Anyway I have been getting better / small steps with Summertime .. Of course it was sung as a kind of Lullaby .. in the Movie version I first saw as a child .. & I am playing it very slowly .. There are just so many versions in my mind I keep hearing the walking bass .. lol .. Bye for now .. ( ps. I could not get to the fan in this old laptop .. screws lost their heads ? .. but I used compressed air & it seems a lot better ) .. So it is still going .. like me .. oops rambling on again .. Big love to you & yours No Politics but it is a crazy time at the moment .. I hope you find happiness every day in some little thing or way .. Bye
