They don't listen to their parents. They get annoyed being scolded. I wish there's a father that could give punishments when I did something bad. Someone who corrects me when I'm wrong. I can relate to the protagonist. After being raped as a child I felt so much self-hatred because I never tried to stop him. I tried to put myself in vulnerable situations where I could be abused or sexually assaulted and I never tried to stop anything (at least not when it was happening) because I felt that I deserved it and that is all that I am worthy of. Each incident leads to shame and guilt again. Self-hatred and shame are so powerful that it can cause us to internally destroy ourselves.

I actually am not out of the self-destructive state but for now, I have it controlled and I am currently in therapy and have 3 incredible people in my life. Things are not very good but better than it ever was, so I am hopeful!

Shira Haas who played the daughter Ariella should get an award for her superb and deeply human acting in this. This movie went to deep places that most movies do not even reach. It was not corny or sentimental in anyway. The character Ben was a beautiful soul in this movie and you hope that someday Ariella and him will stay connected. This movie was better than most American movies I have seen and I say this as an American.

An excellent movie with a message to parents and the children. This movie teaches the elders how to behave with adolescents, and adolescents should behave properly with their families; running away will get them into more trouble. They should know the outside world is not as good as they think.
I am 74 and just watched this movie. I can remember being her age and yes, my father was just as strict as hers. I didn’t understand at the time but he was a very protective man of me and although Sometimes I thought he was unjust he was always right. I thank God that his actions prevented me From getting into a lot of trouble. I was rebellious at times as she was, but a teenagers brain is not developed to make rational decisions. The acting is superb in this drama and this family had a lot of emotions to deal with.
A superb drama. What makes this film exceptional is not just the direction, actor’s performances & camerawork, but the representation of characters each trapped in their own despair.

i was riveted by this movie , so much inner pain and suffering by this young girl racked by guilt ,blaming herself for an accident that put her mother in a coma ,God that has to be torturous , and the father in his own despair and anguish well worth watching thanks xx

Some mistakes don't have punishments, they have daily grind. The girl's mistake didn't call for a punishment; it called for the daily grind to look after her mother after what happened. That alone will lead to salvation for her. Putting herself in danger won't give her salvation; it will ruin her entire life and make an already difficult situation irreversibly worsened. Such instances are many in life and parents should utilize such moments to teach kids that not every mistakes deserves a punishment. Like, my 6-yr-old lost her sun-glasses, didn't keep it in place, took it to play at one of her friend's place and forgot it there, didn't remember which friend's place she left it at. This mistake doesn't call for a punishment, but it calls for a grind of facing the sun till a new pair of sun glasses is bought. This needs to be explained to the kids early on. If they fight with a friend and the friend stops talking to them, they need to be told that this strife doesn't call for a punishment; it calls for a grind of not being able to talk to a friend for a few days or losing the friend altogether. So guilt, which is a destructive emotion, can be replaced by a sense of responsibility, which is a constructive emotion.
This is a very dramatic movie! Great film packed with scenes that will make your heart twist and turn. I would be very surprised if this movie hasn't recieved an award.

Very good movie so sad , wish they had of extended it a little longer , to see the mother come out of her coma and the father be forgiven of his guilt .... it also would have been nice to see the children laugh and become a normal family .

More like a Father’s obsession!
Father could have been more sensible in explaining do's and don't to his children. The way he was punishing her daughter was not right at all.instead of making her life easy he is ruining her life badly
This is parenting on an honour/ shame/ ego basis rather than to actually keep your children safe.
The fact that she is so scared of her father that she hitchhikes in the beginning and actually puts herself at risk because she can’t stay back with her friends or at the very least call him to pick her up is telling.
I understand that parents worry, he didn’t talk about his worry, rather her “promiscuity “ and put her out on the street.
Again whilst the mother was in a coma not much compassion was shown and he didn’t even seem concerned that she was missing for days. It wasn’t until the end that he actually woke up and showed true compassion.
We are all taking it big deal if our parents is being strict to us. It's for our own good. I'ved been grown up on an very strict mother cause my parent is separate. On point that my mother says bad and abusive word just to be scared. And for now I'm thankful that my mother is like that. Thankful because she thought me to be strong and understand life that's why she's like that. Know her problem is when will I get married 😅. But in some point we have different thoughts, mind and perspective of life. I don't judge just saying cause not all are strong enough to take life😥. Life is harsh sometimes 😭. And the point is on how we'll take life, harsh or good in our life.

The humiliation, verbal and emotional abuse plus the Mother powerless to do or say anything made matters ten times worse...oh and the main character I Raped!!!

Whenever my tution tutor came , he kissed me ... Slowly it was like a routine . I felt uncomfortable but i couldn't share to anyone as my father was too strict . I was in 8th and he was teaching me reproduction chapter and that day he compelled me to open my dress .. he touched me badly on my private parts and he did all he wanted ... Slowly it also became a part of my routine ....

Captivating movie. Ive watched American Pie just before this ffs, and this somehow popped up in my recommended, ok lets see whats this is about, expecting to shut it off after 10mins, but i got so hooked, didnt even realise how time flew by and the movie ended. Thats a sign of a great movie if you ask me :) Props to the music guys, fantastic, also the whole tone of the movie, so somber, somehow surreal, cant describe it. And the actors ofc :) But one thing came up to me watching it - why none of the people she met asked a simple "are you in trouble, are you ok, can i help you somehow". Like, come on, she clearly goes through some stuff, you can tell after being with her for 2 mins.
It is a representation of the real world.
When messed up teen girls are in trouble, there is very rarely any good samaritans out there to save her.
Mostly the girl will attract the attention of those who will take advantage of her and exploit her.
