Let me know in the comments, did any of you guys play Restaurant City or any other Facebook games? I'd be interested to hear about what other games people have fond memories of too!
Neosaur! The game that brings back a lot of memories. There is a group of guys currently working on reworking it though. So, we gonna dive into childhood again hopefully sooner than later.
One possible place could be the old IOS cracked app services like cydia. It’s a long shot and I doubt even if the game was still there that it could work. But it could be possible to extract files from it.
i will forever hold a grudge against EA for killing off Playfish and along with it these gems of games. Imagine what kind of great series they would be right now
It's a shame they got snuffed out so early, I imagine if they'd been able to hang around they would've likely made a switch to mobile and hopefully kept successful for a long while after!
Playfish was quite thrilled to sell itself off to EA. The owner of the company created Playfish to latch on to an emerging business model, and then once he saw the time was right, dumped it for a boatload of money and moved on to another venture. That's what businessmen do. There are articles you can still find online even now talking about how this all went down. Pretty sad.
@@sashizakura9124 its understandable that owners of Playfish were happy to sell off to EA. They are businessmen afterall. What i hold a grudge against EA for is that, they want to become a monopoly by all means necessary. That includes buying out competitors and killing them off, just like they did to Playfish. They couldve kept Playfish a separate entity, or integrated into EA production line but no, they were greedy, and after everyone moved on from Facebook games, im sure this strategy by EA failed miserably
I played restaurant city and was heartbroken to see it go. It was SO much fun. I loved seeing everyone's optical illusions. Making it look like your restaurant had two levels was a popular one.
dude … restaurant city is probably still my favorite game ever played (first is the entire AC series) and have been keeping my fingers crossed for 11 years that it’ll come back and i’ll keep being patient. thank you for raising awareness! 😂
It actually is back - its called restaurant streets. Not nearly as good but its essentially the exact same game. Restaurant City fans came together and made restaurant streets
No problem, I'm really excited to see how the game continues to grow in the future! I also checked out the blog post you wrote which was really nice too! If we never see Restaurant City come back, I like to think that developers like yourself will be able to keep the spirit of the game alive regardless!
2024 update here! Despite what I say in the video, I still occasionally look for the game to see if any version was archived anywhere I might've missed. Nothing concrete just yet, but I have found a few more leads and ways to expand the scope of any searches I do going forward. That said, this video's reach has been crazy since I posted it. 14,000 people is a lot, and I imagine a lot of the people stumbling across this video are those that hold old facebook games/restaurant city dear all these years later. Among that, there's bound to eventually be someone crazy enough to have kept a copy of the game somewhere, I'm sure. Of course, the backup plan of getting immensely rich and buying the IP and source files from EA is still in motion. But ideally, I'd rather not have the search go on for 20 more years!
I feel that was the same for a lot of people, myself included! I was on Facebook for the games, and once they started to disappear I stopped using it as much myself too!
@Neremik2 Yeah it's crazy to thank that nowadays I don't know a single person that still has a Facebook since those days are long over so I don't even bother with it anymore.
I loved Restaurant City and Pet Society as a kid. We used to leave several laptops on with different browser windows open so me and my cousins could run various Restaurant City accounts 24/7
Idk about this game, but used to love Social Empires, and just found a group with a playable version with mods. Maybe such a group exists underground somewhere?
This game was literally the only reason my mum registered to Facebook and she finally let me register as well (we were introduced to it by my sisters that were already playing it). We still talk about it and remember how we designed our restaurants, it’s something we still miss to this day and other games didn’t manage to be as satisfactory as Restaurant City… another good one we quite enjoyed was FrontierVille. Thank you for this trip down memory lane, ahah
Thanks for the kind words! Most of my family have moved on from the game since it closed, but it's cool to hear you and your family members are still able to look back on it fondly!
I am in the process of deleting all my FB notifications for Restaurant City. I really loved the game. When I played I would play before work making sure items would be ready for when I finished work and not go bad while at work. My restaurant was called Sinabun a play on Cinnabon an American chain of baked goods stores and kiosks.
God, I LOVED this game and Pet Society back in high school. I got a Facebook account back in 2009 when I found out you could play games on it. And I got into Restaurant City and Pet Society back in 2010 or so. Played it sooooo much up until the day both games died. I was so sad when they went away, and the closest I had were Petville (for a short time) and Cafeworld. Neither of them came close to how good and adorable Restaurant City and Pet Society were.

currently going on a facebook nostalgia rabbit hole rn. i dont really feel nostalgia anymore for the other things from my childhood since ive integrated them into my daily life as an adult, but the facebook games are different because there's no going back to them.
My sister made a Facebook account for me in 2009 so I could play Pet Society. Must've been something in it that's allowed it to keep going this long!
I'm fascinated by the fact that nobody has ever done an expose on the CEO of Playfish and how he just dumped off the company when he got the biggest...em....FISH...to bite. It was all business first, creativity was an afterthought. They had opened studios all over the world, only to flush them down the EA toilet after only a few short years. It's an excellent example of exploiting an emerging business model for all it's worth, then selling before it tanks. Very sad for all of the people who had gambled on working there, though. EA has always been known for being the killer of games, but the CEO only saw the cash he'd get from it, and sacrificed a lot of well-loved and popular properties - Just.Like.That. Thanks for at least touching on Restaurant City!
It unfortunately happens all too much in the industry, and it's a shame to think what could've been if the company was given a chance to keep operating independently. Personally not a huge fan of acquisitions as it is, but the ones that just result in the company being shut down are the ones I take the most issue with.
I briefly played the fan version before dropping it shortly after I looked closer at their pricing structure. Recalling that in order to level up a recipe, you needed one of each of say three ingredients, and that there were ten levels overall, the idea of paying IIRC a dollar *per ingredient* meant that leveling up *a single recipe* would amount to over twenty dollars -- that was pure greedy and failure to grasp pricing strategies and it made the rest of the game feel even more cheap-knockoff than before. Ah well.
I wrote up a longer comment but my slow internet apparently nixed it. Anyway, your attempted pronunciation of the Russian was amusing (it's more like "Eegra restorator" -- the letter P says "R" in Russian), I too miss RC, and it joins a few other games that fill me with nostalgia any time I think of them -- most notably *Secret Plant Society* for Facebook games, and *Travians* and *Stand o' Food 2* for other games I will likely never get to enjoy again. It's one thing when the playerbase dwindles (as with Travians) or when technology moves on (which might be the case with Stand o' Food, though I doubt it), but it's extra sad when companies think so little of the throngs of people enjoying their games.
Those were the days! I don't think I've seen a social media site be 'trendy' since that era of Facebook ended, which is a shame because the feel of the site at that time was unlike anything you really get today. It might've been over a decade, but I still think there'd be demand for something like that, and I'd be interested to see if any company tries to fill that gap in the next few years!
It's hard to say, but in a way, yes. They likely bought Playfish to get a foothold in the market, with the intention to use their resources to make their games. That's why we saw a shift of focus away from games like Restaursnt City shortly after they were bought, eventually leading to their closing. It happens semi-often in game development and kills a lot of great ideas! Thankfully, though, there's more people being vocal about their dislike of acquisitions now, so we can only hope that it'll slow down!
Restaurant Streets is ukrainian project not russian. If you'd follow their socials you'd know that they had development delays because they were evacuating from Kiev due the russian missile attack. Very unfortunate mistake you made here man.
Ah, my bad! I slipped up when writing the script and didn't manage to catch it, that's on me for referring to the VK version of RC as the 'russian version' as short-hand and not clarifying that the dev team were Ukranian and not Russian as you said. I do hope the development team are all alright despite the war going on with Russia, they honestly deserve the world.
Apologies if it wasn't to your liking! I wanted to make sure anyone unfamiliar with the game could understand what I was talking about. While you're right most people watching will have known what Restaurant City is, I didn't want to exclude anyone who might've become a fan and joined the search to find the game through this video!

Apologies if it wasn't to your liking! I wanted to make sure anyone unfamiliar with the game could understand what I was talking about. While you're right most people watching will have known what Restaurant City is, I didn't want to exclude anyone who might've become a fan and joined the search to find the game through this video!
