    Great video and thanks for the update on the panels, going to get a set for my truck. You gotta be careful up at Somerset. Last year the road collapsed on me and I almost flipped my truck, we were nearly on our side and on son could reach out and touch the ground. With your vehicle and trailer be very careful if you venture beyond the the airfield, the road is constantly getting washed out. The first mile past the last bathroom eats vehicles, just look for the bumpers in the ditch. Love your videos and keep up the good work!

    Nice update, tips and countryside video Cosmo! Good call getting out of there with the snow. I could add a set of those panels and tie them down on top of my awning....just an idea. Maybe incorporate them onto the roof a shelter using them for shade instead of laying them on the grass?...kind of like you're seeing at car ports all over now...the roofs are just solar panels. We should do a go fund me or something to make a camping fold up shelter for sun/rain from solar panels.

    If butt splices work well in miles of aircraft wiring and in high vibration applications, they will work great in connecting these. The key is the correct connectors and method. I was looking at these exact panels on Amazon, I think I'll get them. Thank you.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Corey. My Dokio cam with everything you need to charge a Jack 500 (all the connectors etc). The 500 has a built in controller so you dont use the Dokio controller with the 500. Just connect it to the panel with the supplied wires. For the Vistabule you need a controller between the Dokio and vistabule battery. Dokio-->Controller-->Battery. Not sure if you have a built in controller on the Vistabule. If you do not you can use the dokio controller. If you do you need to make sure the VB controller can handle the output of the Dokio.The controller prevents the Vistabule battery from overcharging. You need a controller. Its hared to put everything into a comment!!! Dont forget to use my link I profit from it at no cost to you! Regards =Cosmo

      I did wire both controllers into one 125AH AGM battery. Once mostly charged I often disconnect one controller and leave the battery on the other controller. 600 watts is a lot. I dont need that capacity in the sun. I need it in the counds and tree cover. 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! =𝓒𝓸𝓼𝓶𝓸 ✅

    Thank you for your videos about these panels -- I'm currently deciding which to go with and your use-case is very similar to mine, so your content is very relevant! Based on your other comments it sounds like have lasted well for you, but I am wondering how many weeks per year you're actively using them so I can gauge expectation.
    For example, I saw one other video of someone who said they've been using the panels for 3 years and the panels have severely faded, but then I found out they only use these panels for one week per year, so that sun damage is really from only three weeks of usage in the sun!
    Thanks again for your content and sharing your experience!

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Johnathan mine are a 1.5 yrs old. They have a rough life. I am not sure how much I camp. I will have to check the log book. If fading is a priority, these are not for you. They do make electricity however. They are cheaply constructed and need to be handled carefully to last. For instance each panel has 2 grab handles and they work fine. But grab one and it will start to rip. The edging is starting to fray. They like to be treated delicately. They do what need which is generate electricity at the lowest cost per watt, in a portable compact unit. They deliver what a reasonable person would expect at a dollar a watt. Are the panels pretty durable, folded up, for storage and transport in an RV? I was wondering if is should keep the box to put it back in when not using. I just purchased the Dokio 110w to top off the RV batteries during the day. I haven't used it yet.

      Hi Roger. I have had mine since about October 2020. When I am not on the road and not traveling they are drying out in the garage! I have had them out in rain and snow and no problem. They are not meant to be left out in the sun continuously (weeks and months) the nylon will deteriorate. In my case outside of some color fading on the red trim - no problems! Cosmo, great stuff. Truly enjoying your travels and all the great info you've been sharing. Question, I have a 120 watt panel and a Jackery 500. If I buy the 300 Dokio, would it be possible to connect the two panels together (obviously only for heavily overcast days and/or in very shady spots) to bring the input level up near max for the Jackery? I understand the Jackery has its own built-in controller that limits input voltage to 30v. My panel is 18 watts and so is the Dokio, which would obviously be 36 watts...too much for the Jackery, but wondering if the two panels were connected to the Dokio controller via a splitter, then output to the Jackery, if that would work? Thank you in advance for any thoughts on this!

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I do this. I use the Jackery "Y" connector and put the 2 panels together to connect in parallel. It works! You need these 2 connectors to make it work. 1) This one connects the Y connector Anderson to the Jackery
      INPUT 8MM to Anderson amzn.to/3jwnV7w 2) This one allows the Dokio and Jackery. Not sure what connector you have on your first panel but you need it to match the Jackery input so it can connect to this Y connector. www.lowes.com/pd/Jackery-Jackery-Solar-Saga-Parallel-Connection-Cable-Solar-Charging-Cable-DC-Anderson-Converter-Adapter-for-Jackery-Explorer-880-1000/5002067543?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ggl-_-PLA_SOL_240_Pressure-Washers-Generators-_-5002067543-_-online-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286981&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_8OPBhDtARIsAKQu0gZK6CC4pSCEbj_60M00vC9kmujs2CfwKbUNB8cY8vfFD01_-GYZNIYaAl-0EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

    Hello Cosmo,
    Love your videos! Very informative and nice to watch.
    I’m thinking about misusing these panels and fixing them to the roof of my campervan because I do not want to add extra height. The normal flexible panels are also very thin, but usually have a “bump” of half an inch for the wire connections. I cannot spare this height due to my parking garage not being high enough.
    Do these panels also have a thicker “bump” for the cable connections?
    Keep up the videos!
    Sander

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Sander. I do not think the Dokio is a good choice for roof top mount. I would go with a flexible panel. I have had both and for what you are planning the flexible will hold up much better. In my opinion (I have not done this) you could open the junction box of the panel. Usually inside just some wire and a diode. You may be able to wire it a little differently. Otherwise you can let some air out of your tires to get 1/2 inch lower so you can get into the garage. Air down is the term the off road people use. 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos th-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

    Do you have details on how you connected the two dokio panels (series/parallel)? maybe a video? I have a home grown 1000 watt and I want to use both of my 300 watt dokio panels. I am assuming parallel since i have a single battleborn battery and a mppt controller.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Parallel connection is easy. For 2 panels (or more) put the positive of both panels on the positive of the controller - same for negative. Make sure your controller can handle the total amperage (or wattage) of both panels or you will fry it. Serial is more difficult and has to factor in more stuff. How many watts does each 300W panel produce in full sun? I know it depends on where you live, quality of sun, etc., but just curious. I find 65-70 watts per 100W panel to be good. You test a solar panel capacity with a dead short. The voltage was 22V the amps were 12.45 and the watts were 274 at 10am. I am sure if I waited till noon it would hit 300 watts. Introduce a battery into that and you wont have any idea of the true output. 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! =𝓒𝓸𝓼𝓶𝓸 ✅

      Yes on a VERY dark cloudy day 1 or 2 amps per panel. Jackery fills the gap on those days if I need it. I will typically let the panels charge the trailer and use Jack for power. That way the trailer battery keeps the fridge running and jack powers the laptop, phone and wifi hotspot. I have loads of flexibility.
