The great TP OK Jazz Band ! Their music will never be forgotten . This band , and their mentor Franco , gave us so much beautiful Rhumba music . Their music will always be appreciated .
Yes, most of these legendary artists are gone. Really sad!! Rest In Perfect Peace dear brothers, you are truly missed. To be absent from us with the body is to be present with God in Heaven. Please continue to release more hits until we meet someday another ten thousand years to come!!!
Kiwakana's unique vocals underpinned many of OK Jazz's numbers....a beautiful voice indeed...had a distinctly sweet-sad haunting/ or call it infectious/ edge to it ....the glue that held the vocal ranges together in unison...This Artist just like his colleagues Lukoki, and to some extent Checain , never received the broader mention and acclaim which was certainly duly DESERVED!!!!
Very true brother i hear Franco sidelined them coz they were very close to Simarro lutumba , and if ur very keen you'll notice they only appeared on Lutumbas compositions
@George Ojwang I beg to differ. TP OK Jazz was teeming with talent. Again it should not be lost to us that Lutumba Ndomanueno aka Simaro Massiya (RIP) was recruited into TP OK Jazz primarily as a composer and was the main song writer for TP OK Jazz and also played rhythm guitar in most of his compositions. He was the soul of the band and no one including Franco himself composed more songs than Le Poeté who also deputised Le Grande Maitre as vice president of TP OK Jazz. In the 80s Aimé Kiwakana featured in many songs especially as back for Josky and even had his own composition like "Eperdument" under the TP OK JAZZ label. The quartet of Josky Kiambukuta, Aimé Kiwakana, Lokombe Ntal, and Madilu System teamed up in a number of albums or LPs
This was after the death of Le Grand Maîtré Franco Luambo Makiadi(RIP). Big up Aimé Kiwakana(RIP) the lead vocalist here. With the back up of Djo Mpoyi(RIP), Lola Checain(RIP) & Diatho Lukoki. Guitarists are Flavien Makabi ~ bass, Lutumba Ndomanueno aka Simaro Massiya ~ rhythm, Bohomba Boteku Pierre aka Franco Mongo ~ mi-solo & Nedule Nono aka Papa Noel ~ solo
Kizungu-zungu was a Papa Noel composition, carefully picking the Lead vocalist of Aime Kiwakana to marshall the talents of unforgivable galaxy of the ever humble Lola Chicain, tall handsome Djo Mpoyi and silently striking Diatho Lukoki to sum up the never aging song. Forever grateful for your feat!! Dr. Ogeto Internatio 6:11 nal
I was lucky enough to attend two concerts they performed in Dar es Salaam. They went back to Kinshasa and split up effectively ending the TP OK Jazz reign. Bana OK was formed as an outcome of that sad milestone.
Just like Pele was a complete footballer, Franco was a complete musician. Very good both on the guitar 🎸 and as a vocalist and you know what their origin is from Zaire the current DRC!!! So DRC produced the best in these two legends that the world witnessed and actually saw!
I understand why you think that this song is called 'Madiabuana', - but it is not. On the original lp the titles were mixed up. If you listen to the songs, however, you will soon discover which title belongs to which song. The composer and lead vocal are already mentioned, by the way.

Who's this on tumba, and what of the guy on Simaro's right playing the guitar? What of the vocalist on Papa Noel's left and the on the extreme right?? OK jazz is as hot as lava from a volcano!!!
Other than Pap Noel, it seems that everyone else on that stage is dead. That's sad because this event is less than three decades old and most of these folks were in their 40s then. Life expectancy of Congolese musicians, and people, is really low.
@@ANDAREJO A handful of them succumbed to it but most of their deaths stemmed from overindulgence in alcohol and drugs. Added to their peril was impoverishment -- the money they made wasn't commensurate to their excruciating workloads. Those who didn't write songs barely made livings, even some song writers were cheated. Long after Franco was dead, Lola Chechain found out (from a reporter who was interviewing him) that a song he had submitted to the band in the late 1980s, but was told that it didn't make the cut, was actually released by Franco on a different label and made lots of money, none of which a he saw a dime. He asked for the song to be played to him (which the reporter did) for him to believe that the song was indeed released.
That's a keen observation on the sound level mix of Simaru's rhythm guitar versus Papa Noel's lead. Pity Aimé, Lola and Djo Mpoyi died in quick succession after this.
