TikTok users who work in fast food are giving their followers an inside look at what's really going on in the kitchen, sometimes risking their jobs to do so. Seeing how the fast food sausage is made, so to speak, is sometimes unappetizing, but there are exceptions. One TikToker is using the app to let his followers know the truth about a popular burger chain, including some advice about how to make sure your order is just the way you want it. You guys have to address the underserving of fries, check the grams they promise to give you and weight them on a scale, you will be under served every time

Bacon, mushroom, Lettuce & Tomato cheeseburger. Fries at the nearest location are ALWAYS undercooked (never crunchy and always just soft/squishy), so I stick with the burger. Delish!
I love 5 Guys but man they are expensive. It is more of a once every other month treat than a once a week meal.
What costs me about $12 at most burger joints runs as high as $18 at 5 Guys, and I don't mind paying for the difference, it's always yummy.
It's my monthly treat usually sometimes longer I get double bacon cheeseburger extra patty reg fries and cake shake that come to about £21.00 😅

As someone who worked at Five Guys, this is 100% accurate. Another thing that needs to be said is that most employees on duty are working in the kitchen, and they are working their ass off. So when a customer notes we messed up their order, the last thing we want is for them to be angry. One time I accidentally undercooked a customer's burger, and they trashed a major part of the restaurant, despite us offering to remake it. All in all, be nice. No worker wants to feel as pressured as I did.

One time we were late picking up our order and the store was closing. They purposely put extra patties on the burgers and gave us what was left of all the fries fresha dn hot. Holy Cow!! We were not expecting such generosity and they were all too happy to be nice to us even at closing time.
We always toss whats left so better to give em to the very last customer. DONT BE EXPECTING THAT ALL THE TIME THO.
I work for Five Guys as a shift manager and we also will do that with the fries if you're the last few customers.

Yep, happened to me, filled paper bag up to the top with fresh hot crispy fries had to dig through the french fries to get my burger at the bottom👍

I use to work for Five Guys. Great experience overall and yes the food is freshly made in the morning there's no left overs from the previous day. I would of never left if the pay wasn't so bad but it was a great first job.

I've been to several different Five Guys locations and lemme tell you, one of the BEST burger chains out there by a good margin! I have NEVER been disappointed with my visit! Yes, the prices are up there, but after I've cringed at the bill and accepted the fate of my wallet, I sit and wait, maybe run to the washroom right quick, fill my drink, they call my order up, I grab my food, sit at the table, open that bag and forget all about what I just spent. Whatever size fries you ordered your bag is gonna be overflowing with fries with the little fry cup at the bottom somewhere as a suggestion. The burger, OMG so juicy and the cheese is divine! You get plenty full from it and it leaves you wishing your stomach was bigger so you could order again.

Burgers are often dripping with so much fat that the buns turn all mushy up to the point where you can drink the bun, that is not the sign of a good burger.
I have to say, when I worked at 5 guys, I was shocked to see how fresh the food was and how clean the preparation was. Also, my managers were very chill across multiple locations, and were easy to talk to about getting a raise, overall it was a great place for a first job.
Probably not now, considering how bad the labor shortage is, the place I work at went from being squeaky clean at all times to being a hellhole just because we don't have enough staff to even attempt to clean. The moment we start, 5 cars come in before we even get the first tray back to dish.
Shocked that a place was clean and food fresh, that's basic 101 standards!
I kinda like the idea of the burger taking at least 8 minutes. Since covid McDonalds, Wendys, and Burger King have all maintained the "Fast" in their food by barely cooking anything. You order a burger, and it feels like someone took a lighter and ran it under the burger for 30 seconds..
They sit in tubs in a warmer. Probably old horse meat.

I worked for five Guys before and everything is fresh but there is nothing special about the ingredients. They always hyped up the cost saying that they would pay more for the ingredients but it was all pretty normal stuff.

I had five guys for the first time a few weeks ago and it was definitely more than 8 minutes but worth the wait. Going to be a more painful wait after knowing how good it is next time I go.

best burger ever was Fuddruckers back in the 80s, when they ground the meat in-house. They also baked these awesome cookies in house. Eventually they started getting pre-made patties, still pretty good but the down-hill process was in motion...

I never knew Five Guys put seasoning on their fries. Been there a few times and never once have I had seasoning on my fries.
The seasoned ones are cajun fries you have to ask for it. They are rather mild but some people are so weak to heat that they would complain if it was the norm. I can't imagine the normal ones being anywhere near as good so I recommend always going with the cajun seasoning.
They damn sure don’t put any on the burgers.

It's like $25 for a burger, drink and fries, and they give you way too many fries, and charge you $15 for them.
As a former food service worker, I had it when customers take their frustration out on a cashier, or someone who literally has no control over something.
I've never worked in food service, and wouldn't want to. I don't have the temperament to deal with asshat customers. It isn't hard to be polite and respectful to the workers. Besides that it's stupid to piss off the people who can piss in your food.
You are 100%. That's why no matter any situation, I never take it out on an employee. It's not their fault, they just work there
What annoys me is when they rattle off a large complex order fast, get annoyed when the cashier is slow to punch it in, and then make a scene when there is a mistake....
@@dragonchr15 When I worked in the food service this would annoy me, but also make me feel terrible even though I knew it wasn't entirely my fault.
Now that I have the background of being in food service I try to take a calm approach to situations where they screwed up. I don't know what they're going through and there were those times where I was having a bad day at work. Some customers would make my day better while others made it worse.
While I don’t think people should not abuse cashiers it’s a shame they don’t even know how to calculate change.
I love Five Guys, their food is awesome and their staff at the one near me has been really friendly and efficient. I try to go at least once a month
So blanching fries is a secret? I've been a chef for 15 years and it really trips me out that people think blanching fries is a secret. You literally have to do it or they won't cook right, they won't get crispy if you don't. Blanching and cooling pulls the water out of the fries so that they'll crisp up.
I think the surprise is that they do it at the restaurant. They even got signs up saying where the potatoes come from. Around here, it's always Idaho.

The last time I ate at Five Guys, I paid nearly $20 for a double burger & fries with soft drink. It wasn't very good, the air conditioner was off until I almost finished, and there were flies buzzing around. This was at the location by Northeast Mall in Hurst, Texas.
If you leave a bad review on Google or Yelp, corporate might take notes/notice and do something (hopefully).
I always leave restaurants reviews and the managers or owners will actually try to talkback or make excuses.

Very interesting. My last two experiences, one at Fatburger and the other at Bin 4 Burger Bar, were highly unsatisfactory, involving bad burgers and lying managers.
Which Fatburger? I worked at the one on 30th & Figueroa in LA. We always took care of customers. Refund if problem. However that was almost 20 years ago. I loved it; if I had the money would have brought a franchise. My favorite thing was chili cheese fat fries and grilled chicken burgers. Burgers were good too but In and Out beat us consistently.
That's the thing too, these former workers comment as if all employees are saints but in reality they can have that same level of fuckery going on too

I used to be a Mystery Shopper, surveyed numerous 5 Guys shops throughout a State. Out of the various places I conducted reports on, overall they were one of the best.

Working on that potatoe slicer during prep will work your right arm to pain. They are the best chain. The meat is preped from ground beef in the morning, the fries are freshly cut every morning.

First time I had Five Guys was when the wife and I were starving and looking for *any* reasonably priced place in an expensive district in Paris. While we prefer local cuisine when traveling, we spotted a Five Guys across the street and gave it a try. Darn tasty. Now I wish I had one near me in the States.

Write to the company and ask for them to put a franchise near you, I always say, it never hurts to try, and you are doing nothing but complimenting them for it. You wouldn't believe some of the results I've gotten by writing to different companies. When you have nothing but positive things to say, they really want to hear it.

Love 5 Guys burgers and fries. It had be a long time since I had been there due to covid disciplines. Recent visit to 5 Guys was a shocker. Three burgers, three fries and drinks was $75. I choked and thought the clerk had rung it up incorrectly but she had not according to the menu board which I had failed to look at. My stupidity. We ate slowly and savored every bite but it was our last Five Guys dinner. There is a bar not too far from 5 Guys where you can get an 6 oz Bison or Elk burger with fries for $12. Much leaner and healthier and half the price.
what city are you in? In Atlanta, 3 burgers and 3 large fries and 3 drinks is about 60 plus tax. You must be in Alaska(?)

Pink slime, I suspect, was just scratching the surface. Fortunately, the market can support different kinds of companies including those that maintain quality that, unfortunately, costs money.
5 Guys is a treat EVERYWHERE you go. It's worth every penny.
This is the first time I've ever even heard of this place that i can recall. Sounds to me like we need one in Middletown, DE. There's one in Newark but I ain't driving that far for fast food, no matter how good it looks.
Well, Delaware can afford astronomically overpriced mediocre burger joints like 5 Guys.
Food is awesome...only one thing I noted...my first time at Five Guys was back in North Virginia in the late 90's, just before I moved to Tampa...I can definitely say that the burgers shrunk in size from those first (which were amazing), to, while still amazing in taste, are nowhere near as big...just a thought....no problem with cost though as I understand I'm getting a fresh, well made burger.

I worked at Pizza Hut many years ago and we added string cheese to make a stuffed crust then. I'm certain that's how every 'stuffed crust' pizza will be made. In fact, how else would you be able to do it? Certainly not with grated cheddar!
I worked at pizza hut in 2006 and our dough was premade with the rope of cheese already formed inside the crust.

I tried 5 guys in Lubbock several years ago and would never darken the doorstep of another one. The odor inside the door was like a sewer backup right there in the middle of the dining area. We tried to order and eat our food but the odor was too great so we trashed the food and went elsewhere. Come to find out they store pallets of potatoes right in the dining room next to the seating (I'm sure it's a gimmick they use to indicate how fresh the food is). However the potatoes were rotting, as potatoes often do and no one culled them for the rot which apparently had spread through many sacks of the spuds. I went up and complained but to no avail. I was treated poorly for even mentioning the smell. And it was quite gross and not something you could easily ignore. As I said, I'd never go to one of those wretched places again. I spent over $20 for the 2 of us and lost my money. Maybe the burgers and fries taste good, but only if you can stand to eat them.

Damn, there's a local burger joint where it's 4 burgers, 4 fries, and 4 drinks for $24. There's plenty of these around where I live, and the burgers and fries aren't even bad at all.
Went last week got 2 Bacon Cheeseburgers, 1 med fry, no drinks, $32 dollars. I live in PA. Not worth it when local burger shops can do better-tasting grass fed/grass finished single-source burgers that come with fries for $23. I also love how the menu they chose to show must be from years ago because a bacon cheeseburger is not $7.99 anymore its now $11.99 and a regular fry is $5.99.

It was fascinating
I've been to two different Five Guys. Both times the places were not busy. The employees took so long to assemble my burger that it was cold by the time I got it. The price point is ridiculously high for what you get. I don't need that many fries. I can produce a better burger at home in about the same time it takes at Five Guys or I can go to the corner bar and get a burger and drink a beer while I wait the 8 minutes.
Yeah, when I went it was like 14.80 for a “Little Cheeseburger and Small Fries”. I can go to Crave Burger and get a bigger , better quality burger for the same price

I ordered from 5 guys once and it was good but expensive. I'd rather cook it myself and save the money.
I only like crispy fries and Five Guys’ fries are never crispy. So one time I asked for the fries as crispy as possible. They made them and assured me if they’d cooked them any longer they would have burned. They were exactly as soft as their fries always are. So I gave up on Five Guys fries.

Five guys fries cannot get as crispy as you want them, they are thickly cut from fresh potatoes, blanched (pre cooked once in a separate fryer) then cooked. The training states that they should be crisp on the outside with a mash potato texture on the inside when fully cooked. Not everybody's preference, I am aware. But if we were to make them crispy, they would actually be overdone, and in most cases, actually burnt.
@@HitaxasTV i used to work there. its a skill learned over time it took me a month to learn how to get them crispy every time. you gotta keep your eye on them blanche them a little more than they tell you wait til you start seeing brown and dont forget to shake the grease out of the basket really well. and dont close the bag lol
I agree, I take my 2 granddaughters there several times, they love the hamburgers and so do I. Yes, its expensive, but damn good and its a treat about once every 2 months.

So if they pay their employees equal to other places where does all the extra money from their outrageous pricing go? To them, and that's just greed. They know they're screwing people over, the customer and the employees both. And that small patty makes you feel cheated after you spent 20 dollars. You're practically forced to spend even more to get a double and they hope you'll get full off of the fries, not the burger. I've been there twice when someone I was with wanted to go and avoid it because it's the principle of the matter. The idea that because it's fresh we're charging you extra is outrageous. It SHOULD be fresh and you don't pass down the cost for that to the customer. Outrageous.
After eating for the first time at a Five Guys near me, I never went back to any of the other hamburger chains again!
That's exactly what I did. I walked in saw the prices and walked back out and never been back.

Most of this is common knowledge but the time is off 10-15 minutes is the regular the extra fries in the bag are pennies to them but an easy trick to get people back.
5 Guys became too expensive lately , I went the other day and it was $9.79 for a little cheeseburger and $4.95 for small fries, adds up to $14.74, definitely not affordable fast food, for the same price I can go to Crave burger and get a bigger restaurant style burger and fries for the same price, like the Luther Burger, damn.

I remember seeing a worker at McDoonalds making fries from whole potatoes in the store years ago. But to save money now they are cut into fries and frozen and shipped to the store.
Their is something not quite right about those McDonald's fries. Potatoes are not that yellow after cooked.

It's funny, I went to McDonald's and there were four cars in front of me at the drive-thru. I was in line 16 mins before I got to the window to get my food and I had to wait another four mins. So, the term Fast food doesn't mean much to some companies lol
This could all be avoided if big and or complicated orders were banned in drive-thrus. There is nothing worse than having an SUV full of people in front of you, or somebody ordering for their whole crew.
I have found that it tends to go quicker to go inside to order.
@@Anglovox You shouldn't have to go inside to order, if fat stupid people would get out of their cars to order for their families. Unfortunately, we all have to suffer because of big orders.
Did you go during the night time, because it seems to be a common issue with MacDonalds and Jack In The Box where they take 30 minutes just to finish 1 order in the Drive Thru
@@candysell Even the car behind you can slow you down, believe it or not. Sometimes they are catering to the person who got there after you, when the fries aren't ready for example. It's not always, "first come, first serve". This is why I rarely go to fast food places, and if I do, when it isn't busy, like not during the lunch or dinner rush.
I went to 5 guys randomly and I could feel the tension in the room. Everyone is waiting for their food, hungry and getting impatient, but I can clearly see everyone is working hard. One kid goes in the back room is making phone calls and I can tell he's trying to keep it together. Turns out someone was late for their shift. Everyone was doing more than one role.
Don't even try to act like making burgers is difficult. That's why they get paid like crap because it's not that hard.
Try doing it fast bro and a lot you will find it hard no matter what especially if your on a timer lol
Shake shack is up there too but not as expensive and really good! When you get a pager to let you know your order is done, you know they are cooking from scratch. The five guys near me is never busy. I have door dashed from there a few times. It seems that is the only way they are still going is with delivery. Each time I went on there the tables were all empty.
I love 5 Guys, but their Cajun fries are way over-seasoned. It's like Frank Costanza when he was seasoning the meat in that war flashback scene.
Five guys is practically the only fast food place I frequent. Food is amazing. Fries are awesome. Good job. One complaint, loud music not suited for my boomer sensibilities
I stop at my local 5 Guys once a week. It's a treat and I don't want to wear it out. Yes, they are expensive but their burgers are a good treat. They make a darn good burger.

Five Guys destroys their buns. I cannot for the life of me get a burger where the bun wasn't smashed into the meat all soggy and heavy. Please stop doing that. Put the burgers in a recyclable box if you have to, anything, but don't destroy my bun!

The cooks need to be more careful with their touch by using the palm of their hand instead of fingertips that leave indents or smashed bread.
This can sometimes be seen from any other places that serve sandwiches.
The employees are supposed to be trained to lightly press the buns down onto the bun grill in order to get an even toasting on the bun. Not everybody seems to get it correctly, even at the location I work at. However, that's not the reason for a soggy or heavy sandwich overall. The reasoning behind that is typically because people order *too* many toppings. One of the best ways to avoid this issue is to simply not add either of the grilled onions or mushrooms to your sandwich, those always lead to a soggy bun simply because they are the first items added to the bottom bun, and they are stored in a way where they retain a lot of moisture.
@@HitaxasTV Indeed, and I noticed the other problem is, they wrap it too tightly in wrap and it steams itself into one soggy mass. A double quarter pounder at McDonald's isn't treated this bad. In fact, they use a box and my bun is always in perfect condition. Same with other chains. I really wanted to love Five Guys, because the meat is great...
Quality burger - I've never been disappointed with a burger from ANY 5 Guys! The higher prices simply keep me from eating there ALL the TIME! Besides if I ate there every day, I'd be a house! But so worth it for a treat!
I've never been satisfied with a burger from Five Guys. I don't eat there anymore. My LEAST favorite place to get a burger. Gimme any fast food burger over Five Guys.
Their burgers are only well done. I've never had a good one.

I have had 5 Guys food just twice, I can't say I would eat there again. Prices are nuts for what you get, and the bit about the fries being well done is BS, both times mine were soggy AF, Hot but Soggy.
Probably just a location issue, you also can’t leave the fries out for longer than like 20 minutes or more,
when 5Guys finally came to So Cal, I most certainly had to try their burgers. Are they good? Yes. Are they as good as In N' Out? Definitely no. Is the price of ONE 5 Guys burger worth TWO In N' Out DOUBLE DOUBLES? HAAAAAHaHaHaHaHa!!!!!!!

I used to get the burgers from downtown South Bend Indiana and their burgers were always on point. Especially considering how busy they always were.
And the prices weren't too bad for the quality. I'd get mushrooms, mayo, jalopenos, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and theyd always HOOK UP the fries. Just a whole bag full lmaooo

They have a great burger but there are plenty of great burgers out there for far less money. I actually did walk in then out once when my wife about died when she saw what they are charging for a burger. We went to a sit down place down the street and had the special of the day Blackened Catfish for less money then a burger at Five Guys. Just not a good value in my opinion.
Went to 5 guys first time the foods not worth what their charging I'll stick with the other burger chains thank you. $11. For a bacon burger that's average size not worth it. The fries and drink another $10.
@@markdibble7220 EXACTLY! Iv'e been twice now, both times spending $18 for a double cheeseburger with bacon, fries, and a drink. Both visits the burgers were extremely bland, no seasoning on them at all. never again. I wouldn't have a big problem about the lack of taste if it didn't cost so much. At first I thought it just might be a problem at the location that i went to, but after looking on the internet iv'e seen too many others make the same complaint. I'll just stick to my go-to burger restaurants Steak N Shake and Freddy's where you can get a quality burger for much cheaper than what Five Guys cost.
I've had them once. I was not impressed. Not that bad, just not that great. Maybe I'll save up one day and try the seasoning on the patty and fries. 😐
@Q S Your taste buds are fried and you think anything not covered in salt and msg is unseasoned. Beef tastes great on its own you dont need seasonings.
@@Luckingsworth yes beef actually can taste great on it's own if it actually has a good beef flavor to it. the 2 times that i have tried 5 guys the meet was flavorless, the only thing i could taste was the toppings and the condiments. now this wouldn't have bothered me as much if 5 guys wasn't so overpriced, I believe in getting a good bang for my buck, so if I am paying over $18 for a burger, fries, & drink i expect it to be great. I have actually had burgers from McDonalds, BK, and Wendy's that had less quality beef, but tasted better than 5 guys because those burgers actually had some flavor to their beef, and I hate those 3 restaurants. And nothing is wrong or off with my taste buds, I don't need salt on my food to eat it, I just love for my burgers to actually have flavor to it. A Steak N Shake burger has great flavor to it with no seasoning added at a way cheaper price that 5 guys. You should try one and compare the difference for yourself. Like I mentioned before there many others complaining online and posting bad reviews on how bland 5 guys burgers are, maybe you you love to eat flavorless burgers, but I and many others don't, especially when you are paying 5 guys prices. But to each their own.
I think they position themselves for better prices. More profits. In and out beats them completely and far cheaper and pay more to their workers and food just as fresh. However will admit after in and out they are the best burger out there that I have tasted. Though I heard Culver's in Wisconsin is better but never been.
In N Out is the GOAT, but this place will have to do in the Northeast
