  • In this video I outline my new toy; a Bravex brand propane torch. I purchased this unit to burn weeds out of my gravel/rock driveway. This is my first attempt at using a torch like this and I was impressed. I figured I would share my initial results.

    I’ve found a salt and soap mix sprayed on a week before torching is the way to go. Weeds get dried up and burst into flames. Less propane and less scorching of other materials.

      Good idea, I'll have to try that out. I'm getting a little weedy around here. Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍😁

    You had me laughing with the owners manual 🤣
    I 100% agree with you about it being safer than the chemicals. They are bad to be around ☠

      Haha! I tend to use instructions as a 'secondary reference'. Thanks for watching! I see you got a new video out. 👍😁

    That’s pretty cool! Faster results than spraying RoundUp or any other weed killer with the added benefit of not putting toxic chemicals in the ground.

    I just got mine to deal with invasives in my wildflowers. I almost dropped it when I pulled the trigger! I was so startled by the roar of jet engine. I've wanted one for years. It made quick work of the bindweed and I'm going to move on to the Virginia creeper.

    Two words of caution... use a sprayer with soapy water to test connections for leaks before lighting it, and also it's possible to melt the hose with the torch flame which could possibly ignite and shoot flames much farther than you'd like in a random direction - so it's wise to keep the tank and hose as far away from your area-to-be-torched as possible.

    This is great and I want one for burning raised beds so that they're waterproof but linetrimming followed by spraying vinegar will kill weeds very effeciently as well.

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea! I never thought about trying vinegar. I have also used this to mildly weather treat a pine bench (video on the channel). It was more cosmetic than functional, but turned out great. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

      @@FlatThunder Anything that changes the ph of the soil will kill weeds. Some people like salt because it eventually washes away and is relatively safe.

      @FlatThunder  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@firesurfer good idea! I have used this previously, but always thought the salt burnt the plant and absorbed its water. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

    Thank you for this video, I have been afraid to use mine because that users manual is confusing and... righty was not tighty, ha! Going out to master this machine now.

    Looks like you have the old style valve on tank because the new type will not allow enough pressure to burn correctly

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm not sure, but I have used this same torch on several different tanks that have been exchanged within the last year. Maybe investigate if your torch valve is restricted? Thanks for watching 👍😁

    Great job. I am very concerned about that short hose. I would buy a 15ft hose.

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! A longer hose would make it more convenient. Definitely need a two wheel cart or wagon to move the tank around easier. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

      @@FlatThunder Get a Gorilla cart. That is how I haul my rig around. You can hook it to a tractor as well, just need to secure the tank with bungee cords.

    Great video! I am going to order one for starting the BBQ coals. Oh yeah....lol I turned to grab something while watching the video and when I returned, It looked like your beard was on fire 14:07! I had to back up the video just to make sure. 😳

      Thanks! I see it now. Luckily no flash beard fires were created during this production 🤣. I used this torch for a couple other applications too. Check out the custom bench seat video. I am happy with this torch and I think you will like it. Cheers 👍😁

      For bbq, I use a bbq chimney. Works pretty fast too! About $10 at HD. Just put one or two pieces of gently crushed newspaper in the bottom and light with a match. Put coals in top and wait 20-30 mins. Simple and safe. No lighting fluid needed usually.

    How long would that last on that high power setting though, could be crazy expensive on gas.

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never tested it, but it does consume a large amount of gas. It might be comparable to expensive chemical weed control alternatives if used correctly. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

    another tip... you can always water the area before you torch in order to prevent unwanted areas being burnt. Such as weeds growing through mulch
