It was the early episodes of the '69 series specifically that Jansson complained about. She then allowed the '72 series to be produced on the condition that it would not be exported outside Japan, largely because character designer Hiromitsu Morita (who had taken over in the later '69 episodes, and who is credited as the animation director on this episode) couldn't design her characters in a way that would satisfy her at the time. (Among other things, Jansson apparently demanded that Snufkin's and My's bare hands be colored black, which Morita didn't think would suit the norms of Japanese culture.)
oh okay. ya this 70s version is alot better then the previous. at least they attempted to be more true to toves vision and wants for the show. but wow thats odd she wanted the hands to be blk lmao?! weird. the designs of the moomins look fine too. just the color needs to be changed. well glad she allowed this to be made tho regardless. im enjoying the episodes. thanks for sharing!! ✌@@toadette-iad6493
it is, but this show seems to be a bit darker and more mature than the 90s version, this reminds me of the episode with a child from Mars but that child was treated far more sympathetically than this one and never used for exploitation.
