Many Germans welcomed him with lots of love when he came over by an army ship.
He was stationed in Bad Nauheim. They have lots of places to remember him. A 1:1 statue is standing on a small bridge and they made a traffic light (for pedestrians) look like Elvis with a guitar.
Thank you for doing this interview!💚☀️

I think every person who has served, regardless of branch of service understands what you're saying. I spent 4 years active in the Air Force and another 13 in the Reserves. I do not regret my service. It's a great way to meet people from all over and broadens your world views.

Elvis was 25 years old, at this interview, and basically he just did what he was told to do. I understand they sent him out in the field, a lot, because if he was on base kids were climbing over fences and trying to get in anyway they could. His mother passed away while he was in basic and when he got back after her funeral he was shipped to Germany. Once in Germany any G.I. was allowed to live off base and his dad, Red West and Lamar Fike met him there and rented a house and when he was not on patrol he stayed at this house. He had crowds of fans standing at the gate and there were instructions on the gate telling when he would give autographs. That is where he met Priscilla and knew her about 3 months then came back to the states and went on with his life. He also met Charlie Hodge at Fort Hood and Joe Esposito while in Germany. Charlie Hodged was shipped with him to Germany and he and Joe Esposito remained with him until his death in August 1977. Then they found out Elvis had became a legend, which they had no idea that he was that loved. I think they spent the rest of there lives going from one meeting to another, of Elvis fans, just talking about this man. To this day Graceland is the most visited place beside the Whitehouse in the U.S. I want to thank you for your service and enjoyed hearing your outtake on Elvis army years. Very interesting.

It’s really fascinating to think about Elvis‘ time in the military because he was drafted out of the blue when he was literally the biggest star in the country, and already a growing star around the world, and he did his duty without any complaints or special treatment. he wasn’t sitting on social media during those years. He was just “soldiering” as he called it. His humility is astounding considering he was quickly becoming the biggest star the world has ever seen. Thanks for posting this reaction and sharing your own perspective on military service.

The worst thing happened shortly after he was in Germany. His mother got sick and died in 1958. He was extremely devastated. Elvis adored her very much!

There was o reason he should have been drafted at age 23 and the USA wasn’t engaged in any wars. They wanted to get rid of Elvis and rock and roll, because they thought Elvis was corrupting the youth. After he served, the adults gained more respect for him.
