    I agree. 6 wide vehicles are the max for a LEGO city. Thanks for the recommendations!

    You can build six wide and seven wide cars and easily fit two lego characters in if you use jumper plates.

    I was thinking along the same. You perfectly pointed out the Issue with 8-wide cars. Good for model building and details, not for city. But I rather have one minifig than to amputate body parts 😁

    • @BevinsBricksWorld

      🤣 🤣 well the other option is 1x2 brick with a jumper and a head mounted :)

    • @scottthewaterwarrior

      Use jumper plates to offset the seats and make the roofs 5 wide. You do have to sacrifice having actual windshield parts with this method though and just settle for the pillars.

    I have to say I completely agree with you, Daryl. It doesn’t make any sense at all to see an eight wide car in someones city with semis and trains 6 wide. I personally like 6 wide cars, 8 wide semis and trains 8-9 wide. Cool trick with removing an arm to make them fit.

    Finding the right scale of a minifigure is impossible.
    If you take the height and compare it to an avarage human you get an other scale, than comparing the width. It gets crazier if you compare head or hand size.
    So the real minifigure scale of a car is just a personal preferance. 😉

    • @BevinsBricksWorld
      @BevinsBricksWorld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is minifigs are not to scale, so you basically must work off what works or looks best to the individual builder as you said.

    I make my roads to fit trucks and vans that are 7-8 studs wide, with cars at 6. This goes closely to the 1/35 scale I’m going for (disregarding figure scale entirely). My only complaint is that a five stud windscreen would be the perfect size for a six stud wide car.

    As much as I like the added detail of the 8x Speed Champions, moving away from 6x cars killed the line for me. I always bought them to be highly-realistic cars in my city, and at the new size, they just don’t work.

  • @edwardlees4585

    As I don't have a city I do prefer the realism of the 8-wide cars. I think one way to solve the problem of putting 2 mini-figures side by side in a 6-wide is to slightly stagger (by 1 stud) the two seats. This means you don't have to remove the arms.

    A 1954 Chrysler Crown Imperial might be suitable for an 8-wide car in a scene, if you are modeling a scene where people live in certain parts of the US where streets or roads are already wide enough for it. I don't know if anyone's attempted to build one in LEGO, though! In America, at least, wider cars were the norm in the 50's, nowadays, it's all trending to narrower cars because auto makers figured out it's cheaper to build a narrower car that is much safer.

    Hi, I find you CAN put 2 minifigs side by side in a six stud - you don't even have to stagger by one stud, you put them side by side but with one leaning slightly forwards and one leaning back. The backwards leaning one needs to have his arm behind him as well. I will do a tutorial on this later today to demonstrate. Great vid BTW, and I agree with you that 6 studs is the best vehicle scale.

  • @scottthewaterwarrior
    @scottthewaterwarrior ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I acknowledge 8-wides are kinda too big, but I am a car builder first and have about 15 years of sunk cost into building 8-wides, so a bit late now. The main thing with the buildings is just parking spaces/garages, the big issue is trains: initially I tried building 10-wide trains, but they were a nightmare for a variety of reasons, so now my cars and trains are both the same width, lol!
    As far as 6-wide cars go, I've built a couple as experiments. Making the roof 5-wide really helps them not feel so weird and allows you to still fit two figs side by side with jumper plates, though you can't use windshield pieces with this method. I also enjoy detail and playability with my builds, so both 6 and 8-wides have opening doors, hoods, trunks, and engine bays. Even managed to add folding rear seats and spare tire compartments on a couple of the 8-wides!

    • @BevinsBricksWorld

      I agree the details that can be added to 8 wide are absolutely perfect.

  • @GenoppteFliese
    @GenoppteFliese ปีที่แล้ว

    It is not only minifigs, but also door frames, that constantly break scale. A good workaround might be to look at toy manufacturers who use 1:32 scale and there are many animals, cars and people available in that scale. Building at scale and for minifigs at the same time is always frustrating with lego bricks as you never can get proportions right or what looks okay for one person might look totally wrong for another one. You either build a car that looks real ( say 1:32) or that fits a minifig, but than you have to use 1:24 scale and 1:45 scale at the same time and the result will not look like a real car but too wide and too low.

    I'm gonna have to say this is where we part ways in our beliefs Daryl my brother. I absolutely love the way that the 8w cars look for the size of the minifig. Now granted I plan on also making my mils road plates 10w to support the size of car. Now you might be wondering then how do I plan on having a sidewalk for my roads, and my answer to that sir is simply this. I've decided that MY Lego city is going to be VERY different from the rest, and because of these differences, i'm going to require more space than others to do it! I plan for 10w roads, possibly 12w lanes for highways or avenues even! As for the sidewalks, well i've decided that my sidewalks will be on their very own mils plate that is half the normal baseplates (the 32x16), except used longways on each side of the road plates! Then will come the baseplate for each and every building! I know this will be much grander in both size and requirement, but I'm good with it! Everyone does their LEGO cities alike in a ton of ways. I want to break from that pattern and find my own way. You may not like the style for your own personal building selections, but I'm sure you will like the way it all works together and how it comes out. Afterall, we can like things that we wouldn't ourselves prefer to do, right? This is what I believe will make my city unique to me, and this is what I enjoy, so in the end, as long as we make ourselves happy with the LEGOs we own, isn't that the point of it all? I just can't wait to start putting it all together, which is one of 100's of reasons that the wife and I are looking to actually buy our own house and finally be done with all the traveling and the apartments from year to year. We want some property to walk and to grow a garden on. A little shack that I can build for the wife to work and write creativly out off, and a LEGO Barn, kinda like you have Daryl! Yes, nothing like grabbing up a piece of God's green Earth is there?
