An oddly hypnotic composition is Saudades, a perfect example of the ludicrously prolific Milhaud's ability to create unique soundscapes. Although the dance melodies are recognisably what they're meant to be, they also veer off in an almost surreal, bitonal direction which can be disconcerting and yet, at the same time, utterly fascinating. It must have been a particularly strange brew the composer was imbibing while he composed this fascinating music!!!

Yes and at the same time there is a tight harmonic entity in Milhaud's bitonal thinking at that phase of his output.
