Me and my grandma used to listen to this song together when i was little. Now shes older and has dementia and doesn't remember who i am. But every time i play this song to her she remembers and we just sing and laugh like we used to together...she still remembers every lyric!
Gosh, that just breaks my heart to hear, about your grandma. And that's so wonderful about her being able to remember the song and the lyrics, and in some parts of her, her family and you. Thanks for sharing!

When she says hold onto your innocence stand your ground when everyone else is giving in… I’ll translate that. She’s saying don’t get used !!! We feel we have to say yes to sex, we can grow up in a home full of people and feel unloved when you feel you have to say yes to sex or you’re saying no to the possibility of love… Don’t do it do you hear me? Don’t do it! If everyone else is giving in you’ll just be like everyone else but if you’re the girl who does not give in because when it seems like you’re saying no to the possibility of love just because you feel like you got to have sex to get that love it’s never going to give you that love sex is not going to get you love. What will get you love if you stand out as the girl does not give in and have sex like everyone else now is it going to be with that boy/man who’s pressuring you know down deep inside that it is not and you won’t want to listen to that voice because you’re gonna want to love so bad because you didn’t get love at home. Don’t get used because it feels worse than what it feels like when you think you need the love because you didn’t get it growing up at home so then on top of that now you’re getting used for sex. I was pressured into having sex at 13 years old I was so curious and he was so good looking. In fact my older sister would talk about him years before I ever went to high school and I knew who he was when he started flirting with me in school but he was only out to use me for sex and then he never spoke to me again. Yes he took my virginity and never spoke to me again. Don’t get used for sex. You’re beautiful the way you are. And… This one’s for the girls 💕💕💕💕💛💛💛💛💛💕💕

I was here at 16. I'm here at 28. Thankful I can go back and find positive music. I'm a single black mother defying the odds of the stereotype. Doing my best to walk righteously in christ and do my very best to her and be my best.. not repeating the steps of what I've been through.. I still have hope when there was none. I have a beautiful 11 month old that I will play this for when she is 13. 🤍

This one's for the girls... and all the boys as well!! Still listening to this song all these years later, at least a couple of times a month, sometimes more. CLASSIC!!
I wish that I had heard that advice when I was 13 - how different my life would be now at 16. I remember hearing this song in the car with my mom, who is 42, a lot when I was little, I just never quite understood the lyrics. I just wish I could go back in time and hear that simple, yet strong bit of lyrics; "Hold onto, onto your innocence."
I imagine there are many who consciously and more often, sub-consciously, are in pursuit of innocence recovered. This is one of those things which may separate you from another who cares little or nothing for the precious beauty of innocence. The path is simple, really... ask God to reveal your actual sins to you and that you see them as he does so that you may live out your moments and days and enter the next life having truly repented of them.
why does it matter if you have your "innocence" unless you got pregnant the only repercussions as a female is a dampened ability to pair bond, which is a strong negative, but one sexual encounter isnt the end of the world. the second repercussion is if you got pregnant which is an obvious financial money sink. Stop focusing on little details that aren't too significant and learn how to research for the things you desire. Want to be rich? research what job pays alot, and how to get there while also researching how to manage your finances, its simple emergency fund cut out needless spending pay off debt invest, invest in a 401k save at least a 20% down payment on a house 15 year fixed mortgage (preferably 100% down payment, achievable in 6 years if you reallly want it enough) life isnt too difficult to be successful in you just have to put in an effort for the things you want and stop obsessing over pointless time wasting activities.
Martina, you are an absolutely gorgeous lady with beautiful eyes, beautiful voice & beautiful smile. Just beautiful in every way. No one compares to you. Martina, you’re a doll with the voice of an angel. You are the greatest female singer ever.
I feel sad when it gets to "Every laugh line on your face", and "Tossing pennies into the fountain of youth". I'm not sure exactly why, I guess it just makes me feel bad for them, wanting to be somebody else, different.
Every time I hang out with my niece, this is "our song" that we play several times and sing along to. We've been singing it together for at least 5 years now. I'm trying to teach her that, regardless of whether or when she gets married, has kids, whatever, her girlfriends are going to be an important part of every moment of her life, and to never take these sacred friendships for granted.
People will break your heart and dreams. They will put you down try to control you and ruin your life. It's up to you to fight back. And don't ever let nobody tell you your not good enough. Fight back for you prove them wrong. Don't let nobody ever tell you that there better than you cause there not.
this song came out when I was 11 I always thought the begging was the best, now I'm 23 and the second part is my life....crazy how fast you can grow up.
2:55 Thank you. As a trans girl this helps a lot to hear. I was 11 when I heard this song. I was with my mom in her classroom after the school year was done and she was playing MTV or something on the TV, and this song came on. Even though, at the time, I had no idea what it was to be trans and was being raised as a boy this song struck a chord deep within me and I have always held onto and remembered this song.

So amazed by how many women in the comments, like me, listened to this gem for the first time when they were 13, and felt that the first verse spoke directly to them, literally and figuratively. I love that the verse can be interpreted multiple ways. It could be about virginity, but it could also be about not just following trends and being true to yourself.
I heard this song for the first time when I was 10. I was bullied and teased every day at school but this song made me feel better. It actually made me cry. Thanks Martina.
I remember listening to this song when i was 12, thinking about the future of being 13, 25, and 42 and now im 30. Time just flew by but this song thus far has been so accurate
Great voice, great personality, great person V and unbelievably beautiful! Love to hear a greatest hits album from the rock and roll era from you!, Valentine is my favorite of yours! So lovely! ,
I was 42 yo when this song was out and it used to make me laugh and cry at the same time. And it still does... It is such a true depiction of how it is for us girls...
This is the song my mom dedicated to me and I dedicated to her when it first came out and every time I think of this song I remember my mom no matter how far away from home I am.
I love this song; it reminds me of cleaner pop from my childhood. And now the singers we expect thirteen-year-old's and twenty-five-year-old's to look up to only sing about sex, drugs, and "scars to your beautiful," please. "Hold on to your innocence"?? No modern female artist would even dream about singing a line like that. It's sad how girls are encouraged to "embrace your own sexuality" rather than "stand your ground when everyone's giving in."
My birthday is today and I just turned 13.... This song is the first thing that came on when I went in to Pandora to listen to music.. This is the best advice... Every girl needs to listen to this! ❤️❤️❤️ Your all beautiful the way you are... ❤️😘❤️😘

"Living on dreams and spaghettios." Best lyrics ever!
It's songs like these that should have 1 billion views. Not Justin Bieber's 'Baby'
I don’t care if it came out before. I still feel like this song it an absolute Walmart version of “girls are the best” by Tanye McCabe.
I don't know way but every time I hear this song I cry
I feel sad when it gets to "Every laugh line on your face", and "Tossing pennies into the fountain of youth". I'm not sure exactly why, I guess it just makes me feel bad for them, wanting to be somebody else, different.
Same !!!!!
Me too!
Me too
I think it just makes you think of all the mistakes you've made in life and how far you've come in life
Every time I hang out with my niece, this is "our song" that we play several times and sing along to. We've been singing it together for at least 5 years now. I'm trying to teach her that, regardless of whether or when she gets married, has kids, whatever, her girlfriends are going to be an important part of every moment of her life, and to never take these sacred friendships for granted.
I’m almost 32, and raising kids, fostering my 13 year marriage, scraping by financially... this song still makes me feel less alone. 💜
People will break your heart and dreams. They will put you down try to control you and ruin your life. It's up to you to fight back. And don't ever let nobody tell you your not good enough. Fight back for you prove them wrong. Don't let nobody ever tell you that there better than you cause there not.
shes so strong with her words love her music

this song came out when I was 11 I always thought the begging was the best, now I'm 23 and the second part is my life....crazy how fast you can grow up.
I'm 30. I totally get what you mean. It's a wild ride!!!
It's from 2009.....
Isabella Vargas, it came out in 2003. It was uploaded to TH-cam in 2009. Look at what they're wearing, it's got early 00s written all over it...
I'm going to see Martina McBride at Sea World Orlando on May 7. Its free with admission to the park. I'm so excited!
Hello Lindsay.. how are you doing?
She can sing like no one's business and is super talented!❤
God bless her. As a woman who was beaten as a child, thank god someone brings it to attention.
I’ve always loved this song and now I’m 43 with a 9 year old daughter just praying she “gets it” sooner than I did. ❤

Every girl should hear this song..
Right?! I play it (LOUDLY) often and sing it to my daughter.
I tie them up and force them to hear it. Its effective.
maybe they would stop being so vindictive to each other if they did.
Whether they like it or not.
Agreed... AND all the boys!!
she sings like an angel!😇
Great message to all from a beautiful voice.
Saw Martina in concert a long time ago, when I was a little girl. She was one of my favorite country singers back then, and she still is now.
Voice of an angel whose eyes pierce through the hardest of hearts and brings joy to the soul.
Great song, love Martina. ❤
I love Martina McBride I think she is a great singer
THAT'S AWESOME
So amazed by how many women in the comments, like me, listened to this gem for the first time when they were 13, and felt that the first verse spoke directly to them, literally and figuratively. I love that the verse can be interpreted multiple ways. It could be about virginity, but it could also be about not just following trends and being true to yourself.
I'm 13 and I remember being little and playing this song everyday. I still play it alot.
Saaaaaame
Man... what a voice!!!
I'm tearing up- uplifting ❤
This song is so encouraging on bad days.
We need more positive music like this
I heard this song for the first time when I was 10. I was bullied and teased every day at school but this song made me feel better. It actually made me cry. Thanks Martina.
THIS SONG MAKES ME FEEL GOOD,EVEN AT AGE 62 !
This is the song my mom dedicated to me and I dedicated to her when it first came out and every time I think of this song I remember my mom no matter how far away from home I am.
not a girl, never was, probably will never be, but i fuckin love this song. Any other dudes love this song? no? just me?
Toe ofawesome love okay miss kids kiss love Kirstyn
Great smile, great everything
Very good song love it
