    Who else used to play demos more than they did play games!

      Me too. My hook was the Angels crack intro to Lost Patrol and the one by Skid Row to Lemings with the 4mat tune. Then came Hardwired and I was "in" ... seemingly forever since our group in 2019 celebrated its 20th anniversary at Revision easter party with a contribution in an historically Amiga demo competition.

      Me too, this one is a legend. I almost managed to secure the source code for it at one point, though chances are that the guy claiming he had the source code just wanted to seem important. He did seem to have certain connections though, and he did work at a major computer shop as well at the time, so who knows. History shows ultimately no source code though...

    "DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!" I was totally blown away when I saw it for the first time way back in September 1989. Was just amazed! Then came 13:20 and I just fell apart! :) :) :) Anyway, I still hold it as one of the best megademos ever made regardless of platform. Hard2Rock and Wasteland are just a cut above everything - love them both! 1989 was such an exciting year with so many quality releases and so much creativity.

    Red Sector made available a Demo Maker. It only worked with an A500 if you upgraded the RAM to 1 Megabyte. .
    I found a computer shop in Leeds that stocked the chips. I think I spent a full weeks wage on it back in the mid to late 80s !!!
    I used to spend hours playing around with it. Misspent youth and still don’t regret it 👍

    • @HELLOW1969
      @HELLOW1969 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      roygalaasen I actually taped most of my favourites on about 4 C90 tapes. I converted them to mp3 but there are some songs that were competition winners and I’ve never seen them online also Ipec elite chart chat no 5 had a great tune in it but I’ve never heard that anywhere online or 4champ so only a slightly warbling c90 mp3 rip remains. Alas....

    • @roygalaasen
      @roygalaasen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HELLOW1969 the competition winners can be difficult to identify. I have been to a few TG parties, and followed other parties, but things are bound to be forgotten. When it comes to demos, I was quite active, so there may be a possibility I even have some in my favourite folder. There is a place where you can download probably everything, and I mean absolutely everything that has ever been made. It is called modarchive.org . pretty much everything is there. It is probably 40+ GB in size. But obviously with that amount of music it will be hard to find other than randomly playing music. That is a great way to find some great pearls as well.
      I could have a quick listen through to see if I can identify anything if it is available anywhere.

    There's a thing about the vectorball part that kind of intrigues me to this day (not that it keeps me awake at night, but still ;). At 26:04 there's a juggler doing his stuff and the text reads "but do you know anything out of his private life???" I could swear that what followed immediately after this was a pair of the ball figures going doggy style, but was never able to observe it again. And it's not a contemporary confabulation - I did talk about it with a friend back in the day and despite his repated efforts he never saw it either. A case for Amiga X-Files. ;)

This generation of demos lacked the production value of the later trackmos. The individual parts went on for too long and so on. Too bad the last part (after the credits one) is missing from this video. It's common though: that part is a "guestbook" where swappers could write down their info to people who'd receive the disk next. The only problem was that once too much data is written on disk, the end part stops working. Hence it couldn't be loaded in most versions out there :)

      I have no idea what ANY of that means. I wasn't alive during the Amiga demoscene (and I'm 26!!)
      What does swapping mean? What disk? What's a guestbook in a demo?
      Will you explain how this works plz? :'3

      If I remember right, to copy the second disk correctly you had to tell x-copy or whatever you were using that it was 82 tracks instead of 80 - as long as the original disk you had was ok to start with.

      jasha That's for DOS. I was talking about Amiga.

      That is for Amiga, not DOS. It's how you copy the disk correctly on the Amiga so that the final part of the demo works.

      jasha ...oh. Sorry. My bad.
      Xcopy is also an MS-DOS command. :) I didn't know it was also an Amiga command.
      Ah, the days of floppy disks. :) In 2011, I made my own custom format that was 84 Tracks, 24 Sectors per Track, and 2048 bytes DMF format. I might have some terms mixed up.
      Instead of 1.38 MB, I got 1.82 MB of usable space out of a 3½" floppy. That's about 2 MB unformatted.
      Thank you for the info! :)
