    I think it's fairly generic as a goodbye 👋🏻 tribute statement. I would imagine heartfelt deeper statements would be thought in her moments of grief, but this was written knowing social media and strangers would read it, so she went more generic and more distanced, to hide her vulnerability. Grief comes in waves and he wasn't her boyfriend, they'll also be some acceptance, some shock. Some dissassociation.
    I would have expected it full of "I..." statements but maybe at the time she wrote it she was feeling more numb... hence it sounding more generic like the sort of thing she could write as well wishes to any deceased.
    "Fly High" means in Heaven. Like angels.
    When dogs passover people say "run free" and when humans pass over we say "fly high" it's a reference to angels getting wings and the person being in Heaven, but it's commonly said in these situations. She will be repeating things that others say in these situations as we all do.
    Agree with you about her blending into the crowd with this statement. That was the point, as it was on social media. It wasn't a personal letter she wrote to drop in his casket at his later funeral..... I think that's why it's not more personal. She had the audience in mind and was seeking approval as with every social media post. Doesn't mean she didn't mean it all.
    Grief is inconsistent too. I imagine she has had to distance herself a bit emotionally in order to cope. It might affect her more later. It might still feel surreal. That's when we rely on standard common phrases like "honestly lost for words" "fly high" and variations of "I'm sure you'll be waiting for us in Heaven/looking down smiling".
    These are standard things we all say, phrases to fall back on when genuinely lost for words.

    RIP Jay, just hearing about this now; and Bob, you are the best way to hear this sad news.
    This generation that Jay is a member of has made me think so often of the Roaring 20's. The Flappers. The Dandies. Live for today, the next high, the next high risk thrill. Flying by the seat of one's pants without a care, until it all comes crashing down. I think I understand the concept, "Live with No Regrets" but if this is how it plays out for some, I ask: at what cost?
    I don't mean they all must stay home and read a good book and never travel abroad. I would like them to take more caution. More care. Yes, you only live once: it's because you only have one life. You're irreplaceable.

    I have subbed and I’m really enjoying your analysis and views on things… I really really like how you have covered this and the way you have seen things that aren’t blatantly there, it’s amazing how if you “look between the lines” things make so much sense… Only thing I can say is that with Lucy she writes how she speaks and in my opinion she doesn’t really voice the English language to well, nothing bad meant by that, it’s just that the way she talks also contributes to what is meant… If you look at her actual taking and the written word at the same time some things may have a little more meaning that what we see, like I said just my opinion… However this is amazing and I’m learning so much from what you do and how you do it… Great work and keep them coming… I’m definitely going to be watching a lot more of your content and I’m glad I found you 👍🏼

      That is so kind of you. Thanks, mate. BTW, I figured out what you meant when you asked about reported speech and direct speech. Writers use direct speech to make their story sound more realistic. People who report speech are free to edit it in their own way, so it can be an area where you might find deception, but that is not to say that the speaker IS being deceptive. It's just what speech analysts call 'sensitive'.

    Lucy could be in shock tbh, maybe she feels guilty. Surrounding a death I don't think there are any correct words no matter how well meaning. Like when you lose someone you get loads of well meaning people saying sorry for your loss, which when I lost people close to me never helped. Also such and such would have wanted this or that. To me I feel you need to establish a baseline of how a person talks to be able to get a good idea. This reads more to me like an obituary short and not over doing emotions, whereas you get people that overdo how well they knew the person.

      @@Plingu698 Yeah, I didn't like how cut-up the interview seemed - I tried finding more.
      Here's what I'm noticing: "It's the worst. It's torture. I can't sleep," said her mother.
      (which says three things about herself, but nothing about the missing girl)
      "We were all upset after the argument, and she left out the door. I thought well, she's going to just go sit on the curb or walk around the block to cool off,"
      (mentioning doors is associated with sexual activity. "Leaving" being mentioned is also an area of sensitivity; I've never in my life seen both used at once!)
      "She just disappeared, just vanished. There's no sign, no video, no ring door video," said Jeff Gonzalez, Addison's father.
      ("Just" seems to be used as a way to minimize - twice here. Then Jeff says "no sign, no video, no ring door video." Would it not be simpler to say, "no sign, video, or ring door video."? Why say "no" three times? Did he want to emphasize that there was no way to find her?)
      "With social media, it's kind of like there's no guards at the gate, you know, there's no gatekeeper in all of this technology," said Gonzalez
      ("With" is used to join - is he joining himself to social media? Did he have a social media account? He says there's no guards at the gate, but he pulls back a bit from that saying, "kind of like." "In all this technology," Is he presenting technology as a big morass that is difficult to navigate, making it hard to find anyone?)
      "If you're out there, please come home. We all love you. Your family is very worried about you, and concerned," said Milam
      ("If" seems like a big scary word coming from a mother. Does she think the girl might not be "out there" any more? "Your family" Is the usual claim from a mother that "I love you"? They're worried as well as concerned? Concerned seems more 'business-like.')

    on a day with a life lesson of 30,
    7+15+2+0+2+4 = 30, Jay Slater = 30
    & day of the year & how many remaining is a mirror to the day he went missing, Body Found on the 197th day of the year with 169 remaining
    June 17th (Jay Slater's situation) is the 169th day of the year,
    Kidnapping = 169
    It leaves 197 days,
    Slipping on Rocks = 197
    Missing = 45 (45th prime is 197)
    The Badlands = 45
    Drug Deal = 45
    Jay = 45
    + missing cctv on June 17 & the 2 songs "lost in Tenerife" which came 15 June & June 22nd... Someone is mocking 😅🤦🏾
    Also TV Doctor Michael Mosley disappears 75 days after his last birthday, Doctor = 75, Saint Michael = 75, found on June 9th and Archangel = 69

    Well? Congratulations on your use of anaphora in your denial of 'knocking' this kid, Lucy Law. My impression of her statement, interpreted, shows inadequate experience in writing emotional, expressive statements, probably due to her not having experienced a wonderful education. Doctor Johnson said where there is room for 'art' there is little 'grief', and this inadequacy in Lucy's expression probably signals that this kid is upset about a young friend - with his whole life ahead of him - dying. How many of us have cried in our teens for people dying in accidents, acquaintances rather than friends, because we were not used to someone young we knew dying? In addition, this kid has been portrayed very negatively by commentators in the media looking for clickbait. There are many questions left unanswered, but should such questions ever have been asked about these kids? What happened was a tragedy for people close to the deceased and kids who were his friends. Leave them alone! Haven't they suffered enough?

      @@alpha1solace Everybody who writes essays needs to learn that or discover what works best for them, but essays are 'tries' or 'attempts' to answer convincingly. Lots of people 'waffle' rubbish to meet their wordage, use too many 'to be' verb constructions and passive voice sentence structures, where active voice and appropriate word choice would be more 'punchy' and direct as well as economical, while passive voice and complement sentences can be emphatic and precise - particularly in the last sentence of a paragraph and in your conclusion. Essay writing is an ongoing process. You always need to write to be read - i.e., keep your audience in mind - and always stick to your purpose. Finally, edit what you have written, checking that it is clear, eliminate unnecessary words, and submit your essay on time. Good luck!

      I addition, read what you have written aloud, sentence by sentence to ensure, and assure yourself, that it makes sense.

      If you write or speak from the heart it's obvious
      Grief is a funny thing but you are hearing her own words
      If its distant and disconnected that's perfectly fine
      That's how their relationship was . Don't shoot the messenger

      Yeh a High Flier. I don’t know why but she reminds me of a ‘gangsters Moll’ in “Rise of the Footsoldier” 4 or is it 5 ? Especially the picture of her in the white outfit..😂

      What day did they (allegedly) find the body 🤷🏾‍♂️ Unbelievable
      on a day with a life lesson of 30,
      7+15+2+0+2+4 = 30, Jay Slater = 30
      & day of the year & how many remaining is a mirror to the day he went missing, Body Found on the 197th day of the year with 169 remaining
      June 17th (Jay Slater's situation) is the 169th day of the year,
      Kidnapping = 169
      It leaves 197 days,
      Slipping on Rocks = 197
      Missing = 45 (45th prime is 197)
      The Badlands = 45
      Drug Deal = 45
      Jay = 45

    Jay’s Mum wrote “I miss you”, Lucy didn’t say “I”; your analysis sounds accurate to me.
