Grimme Track would have to be my favourite so far. It's just got everything, steep decents, drop offs, 180s, climbs, great camp sites with heaps of fire wood and fantastic views, lovely creek crossings, just something for everyone. Will be doing that one for sure. I'll bet your happy you can crawl down in first gear now, can't believe how much of a difference the tyres made. It will certainly save the brake pads. Great drive again mate, thanks. Cheers, BobbyB.

Thx mate, yeah I was surprised as well. Loving the kenda's they're going really well, seem to wear good and grip very well. Huge difference as you saw in descent where I can actually use 1st gear.
Agree Grimme Track was a great surprise, bit of everything, shout out to Luca for sharing that gem with me, so I can share it with all of you!

Another great ep Jason. How good is Grimme! I did both Grimme and Blue Plain Spur almost 18 months ago and am working on the video for that trip at the moment. Definitely different conditions after 100+mm of rain during the few days prior. That little creek crossing with the rock shelf on the left was spectacular when we were there. And the McAllister river crossings were very different. I’m not going to say more as it will spoil my vid. I’ll try dm you when it’s done so u can compare. But great vid by you boys showing the track conditions currently out there. Keep it up. Oh and I just subscribed as I didn’t realise I wasn’t haha😂

@ yeah I’ll definitely let you know when it’s online! That McAllister crossing really shocked me the difference between our trips.

@@endless4x4 yeah we did the Macalister river track about 18 months prior on our january trip. Was completely different, higher water and much less rock!

Blue Plains Spur was graded about 2 or 3 years ago and prior to that grading it was a great, technical driving track when coming up. There were ruts, rock steps, narrow sections, steep tight turns and scable rocks. All graded now and gone. Track to High Cone now has two very high rock steps, more like cliffs, that are beyond the capabilities of your average tourer. Have to walk the last 400 metres or so. In regards to "rear wheels locking up in first gear", it can't happen if you are in 4x4 because rear wheels and front wheels are joined together. For a rear wheel to slip a front wheel also has to slip. I suspect you might have forgotten to engage the free-wheel hubs and thus what you really were driving was low-range, two wheel drive!

Thx for the heads up on Blue Plains Spur, would have been good to see it prior. The high cone track sounds interesting, might be one to leave till I've got a lift and some lockers by the sound of it.
Pretty sure the hubs were locked on the buckland spur run when the rear was sliding. Quite possible though that the front was sliding as well, just noticed the rear as I had no control over it. Wasn't the only time I tried 1st gear low range with the old tyres (never worked on descents)

@@OffTheBeatenPathAus yes, got that. One thing to note IF you are running the automatic style hubs (not sure if you are), but they can unlock be themselves in a roll back situation. For example - switchback turn where a rookie will simple throw in the clutch to reverse roll back for the second stab at the turn, without engaging reverse and driving back. Sometimes, read sometimes the hub detects no drive torque and will unlock as is the procedure for normal disengagement. (reverse up in 2WD).
I teach when in dedicated 4x4 country to always manually lock those hubs with the spanner so that they are firmly engaged and will not unlock unless you do that with the spanner tool.

Nah this one has the manual style hubs, had thought about changing to the auto ones but the general consensus seems to be the older style manual ones are stronger and less prone to issues...
