Before there was Blache Deveraux and her fashion. There was Agnes Moorehead. I loved how Endora proved fashion knows no age. She always wore something that said she had fashion.

Both Maurice Evans and Agnes Moorehead made their reputations in the legitimate theater, playing in both classical drama , comedy, even musicals by the greatest of dramatists like Shakespeare, Aescalyus, Bernard Shaw. Behrman, etc. The only difference between the two, was one did it on the West End, the other on Broadway. You can see that training and background in their performances of these two perfectly if broadly created characters.

The set and house design were the same until the end of the 6th season. Then it caught fire and was destroyed, so when they rebuilt it, they added the staircase in the kitchen, and the breakfast room off the kitchen. That's why part of the beginning of that season they were filming in Salem, Massachusetts., while the new set was rebuilt.

The UK broadcast these about 15 years ago, but not as late as the '70s episodes. This looks a lot different on VTR compared to the earlier filmed ones. The quality looks more Diff'rent Strokes.

tvmoviefan By the looks of Elizabeth's hairstyle in this scene I would guess this is around 1972 or 71. So in that case she would be 39. And yes she have kids 3 in fact. Bill Asher Jr. (1964) Robert Asher (1965.) and Rebecca Asher (1969) All with her then husband and director Bill
Asher. As you probably have guessed by now, I'm a MEGA FAN of Elizabeth Montgomery and Bewitched! I just adore her! I have the complete box set of Bewitched. So I consider myself an "authority" on her. And I can usually tell what year it is based on her hairstyles. There were a lot of them! Lol! I hope that helps.

Understood! Nothing better than talking with someone who knows it. I like to think I am an expert on my shows as well but this was not one of them. Have not seen Bewitched regularly in about 30 years. I knew she had 3 children and some of her pregnancies were written into the show and she was married to someone involved in the show. Lucky guy! What a class lady! She was gone too soon!

tvmoviefan. That is soooooooo true! I just adore her! I looked up to her as a mother figure. I didn't have such a great childhood so watching Elizabeth was like an escape for me. I was heartbroken when she died! I remember saying, "Oh my God! Samantha died!" Thank God for Utube and DVDS! Elizabeth will live on forever! God bless her sweet and loving soul! I'm glad that I could be of help answering your questions. Bewitched forever!

+Callista Soo, the original Darrin ( Dick York ) had to leave the series do to a serious back injury he got while filming the 1959 movie They Came to Cordura with Gary Cooper and Rita Hayworth that York would receive a permanently disabling back injury.
In York's own words: "Gary Cooper and I were propelling a handcar carrying several 'wounded' men down [the] railroad track. I was on the bottom stroke of this sort of teeter-totter mechanism that made the handcar run.
I was just lifting the handle up as the director yelled 'cut!' and one of the "wounded" cast members reached up and grabbed the handle.
I was suddenly, jarringly, lifting his entire weight off the flatbed-one hundred and eighty pounds or so. The muscles along the right side of my back tore. They just snapped and let loose. And that was the start of it all: the pain, the painkillers, the addiction, the lost career.
HE was in pain through out the first 4 seasons of Bewitched Because of his back injury, which sometimes caused him to seize up in debilitating pain and York requiring assistance to walk around. some episodes had him in bed or sitting on the couch In spite of his suffering, York maintained a professional presence on camera.
While filming the fifth season-episode "Daddy Does His Thing," York fell ill and passed out he was too sick to go on. he had a temperature of 105, full of strong antibiotics, for almost 10 days.
From York's hospital bed, he and director William Asher discussed York's future. "Do you want to quit?" Asher asked. "If it's all right with you, Billy," York replied. With that, York left the show to devote himself to recovery.
From season six until the series ended in 1972, the role of Darrin Stephens was played by actor Dick Sargent. Sargent was originally offered the role of Darrin in 1964, but turned it down to do a short-lived sitcom called Broadside.

Dick Sargent was terrible in the role of Darrin and I'm glad he chose to turn it down the first time........
if he had accepted I doubt the series would have lasted as long as it did...... the chemestry between Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick Sargent was not good.... Dick York and Elizabeth Mongomery had a better chemistry.

Of course, Dick Sargent was gay (so was Maurice Evans; we won't even mention Paul Lynde…) and Dick York wasn't. York's Darren was much more obviously attracted to Samantha. But yeah, even Robert Reed was more able to portray a convincing heterosexual character than Sargent. For whatever reason, Sargent's character was written and directed as more dyspeptic and grumpy than York's had been.

      @jacktheman2895 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I am sure I and in the minority but I think Dick Sargent did okay in the role. He was more calm than Dick York's version. I am 40 so I wasn't around when the show originally aired. I grew up watching repeats and I actually viewed Dick Sargent's portrayal before Dick York's so maybe that has something to do with how I feel about the two actors.

It's really hard to tell who made the better Darrin. Dick York could be a bit of a flake, always on the verge of freaking out, where Dick Sargent could be more down-to-earth but also rather uptight. So let's just call a spade a spade ☺

Notice how that kitchen staircase looks so little and just about useable ? A grown person could not actually walk up or down it for it's too small. Case in point. The real kitchen was burned down and everything was redone including the staircase and it's a fact that it's just for show and it was never actually used anymore because it's a fake staircase .
