  • Part 2: A detailed view of the installation of the Suzuki Intruder with custom sidecar frame. The new frame lowers the car 8", from 14" to 6" for much better handling. Part 3 will show the final install of the body (tub) and fender. Correction: There are two separate sub frames on the bike, not three.

    FINALLY! I have been looking for days for a detailed video of where the mounts are all installed to adjust properly. I keep finding tutorials that are just like, "put it on and ride" with no explanation at all on how to really mount it. Thank you so much man.

      Your welcome. The Suzuki Savage is a fun bike, the single develops lots of torque. A sidecar adds a lot of drag though, my 650 Yamaha V-Star would barely do 60 mph with the sidecar and passenger.

      before istart i need to finnish working on my Jeep the i need to look at the bike I'm thinking of buying a English Wheel and a bead roller and building the body for the side car my self buying the tools and the sheet metal looks like it would be cheaper than just buying a side car and modifying it.

    Thanks G. I thought the same as I was suggested this by a stock car designer/fabricator. If you have the parts, do a bench mock-up. You will find zero lateral play. I used very heavy Heim fittings. I can look up the size if needed......

    Hi Karen, the tubing under the bike is 1" with a .125 wall. The brackets were made out of .250 mild steel plate. Every installation is unique, a good source of help is a certified welder/fabricator. If you can post a picture or send a PM I may be able to offer you some advice. It will turn out to be a challenge, but don't give up. More power to you!

    I am sorry to say that the structure is not as strong as one requires.
    Basically there are three in line hinges and the only non "hinged" joint is the front lower p art and I cannot imagine that that horizontal threaded rod will hold a load at the other three basically hinged joints. .

    Excellent video chum. I'm making one right now myself and could use any tips you might have. Grew up in a machine shop and can weld anything from a broken heart to a guilty conscience. lol. 1994 6 cylinder Kawai. I would be grateful for help with the frame on the bike.

    • @planefloat
      @planefloat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Judge TK. Sorry to be answering 9 months late. I used the mounts that came with the Inder sidecar kit. Lots of modifying, but you're handy with welding, you shouldn't have any trouble. Triangulate the mounts to the Kawi frame. I think your bike is very heavy, so use schedule 80 tubing as a suggestion. Probably hold off in anything permanent on the bike frame, as you may not like riding with a sidecar.......

    The frame under us bike, what is the size of pipe? The mounting brackets where did you get? I'm trying to make a trike out of a trailer, utility trike I call it. I'm trying to figure out what is the best way to mount it to the bike. I'm disabled female and trying to do it all myself.

    • @klplumklp
      @klplumklp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look on TH-cam n put in supertrike, it will show a bike with this setup. I've tried to get up with the owner but no responce. So I'm trying it. I've got the trailer cut out and axles welded, yes I'm doing the welding but I have a friend that is making sure its done right. My issue is trying to figure out how to attach. Any suggestion would be a great help! Thanks for or time.

    Does the side car lean when you lean or is the sidecar rigid like most side cars ? Most side cars when you turn left lift the sidecar up and right turn you have to turn right . hard at best and you to relearn to drive it . I have only seen once a British bike that had the side wheel leaned in unison with the front tire , better control at high speed .

    Excellent video, you should of been a professor, you speak perfectly, not to fast and not to slow. I have a Kawaskai 1700 and starting to build my sidecar, did you buy the brackets or did the welder fabricate them and where did you get your tire from, beautiful, you are a great help, Thank you, Robert

    • @planefloat
      @planefloat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dr.Sarhan, the sidecar was originally an Inder product from India. I had it mounted to a Kawasaki XS650. The wheel, suspension, and frame were very light duty, suitable for a smaller bike. I fabricated the new frame myself, with advice from a professional racecar builder for the suspension mounting. The mounting struts were reused from the Inder frame. They were mounted in a triangular layout for strength. The axle spindle and wheel are replacement trailer parts. The spring/shock assembly came from a medium size motorcycle.
      Doctor, I built this almost ten years ago, not knowing there would be so much interest in my project. I would have kept notes on parts, measurements, and suppliers. It did ride well with a 260 pound passenger. If I had another sidecar body, I would build another with improvements on the frame design and appearance. I was a lot of fun! PS I left you a note on one of your videos. Art

    I'm trying to do the same thing to my Intruder 1400. Anyway you could help me out with what all you needed/used? Also what you mounted it to on the bike. And if you have the measurements or drawing that would be awesome! I'm wanting to have it done this winter so my daughter can ride with me next year. Let me know and I'll shoot you my email. Thank you!

      Hi, I wish I could help you more. I didn't use drawings, it fell into place as I began assembly. I lost track of the sidecar after I sold it. The new owner attached it to his full dress Harley to ride his 150 pound dog in it..... Good luck with your project. It's good for family fun, young and old love riding in a sidecar!

  • @stevegreen2432

    Hope i'm wrong, but the mounting brackets are not safe. That frame will colapse on te first fast left hand bend..

    • @planefloat
      @planefloat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your concern. No flexing with the side car frame after completion. I regularly carried a 250 pound passenger.. I sold the side car to a gentleman who mounted it on a Harley FL touring bike. If it was going to break, that would have done it. Never happened.....

      I didn't notice a big difference over the original frame/suspension. But it was much heavier. Wider handlebars are recommended...
