Excellent video .. I drove thru there about 2 years ago, and the line looked basically intact. To extend from Murwillimbah to the Gold Coast would be expensive, but feasible.

Very nice video from back in the good old days. I hope some day some 422's will end up preserved.

The northern rivers railroad is a great infrastructure project. However, like so many other railways in Australia they date from the 19th century and are outdated. When they were built they were great as trains were the fastest land transport of the time, however they were left as they were with only few improvements. Since construction they should have been undergoing continuous deviations and modernisations to remove curves and allow for straight tracks to make travel time much faster and time efficient. Plus this line should be linked with gold coast and its airport as well as a Dual gauge track (standard and narrow gauge) all the way to the port of Brisbane and Roma Street.

Aiden Teszke If they can get a passenger train up around 200 mph it would be the same time or faster than an airplane.
