  • Here are some tips for casting heavy flies and tandem setups without pain or tangles.
No one enjoys casting a lot of weight but sometimes thats what it takes to be effective. all too often it means a lump on the head or spending half your day untying knots. Sound familiar? Well, it doesn’t have to be that way.
There’s an easy way to cast weighted flies and avoid the complications. Tim Rajeff is back to show you how to cast the heavy stuff without a helmet.

I’m interested in the constant tension cast for wind that does not transition to an overhead plop (for heavy weighted rigs) but is a very tight, sidearm oval, constant tension, but is heavily hauled both front and back. I’m practicing it and it seems to be very effective in either saltwater or any high wind environment. I practice a lot and it seems like something that will help deal with casting hand wind or low-hanging vegetation situations. Try it out. The concept is simple. Constant tension, but very tight sidearm oval. See what happens. 😊

This is difficult to do when I fish from the bank with berms and heavy foliage everywhere behind me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yay. This gets me out of the chuck and duck world. Thanks for the clear and concise tutorial.

Finally! I fish heavily weighted crawfish patterns for smallmouth and have struggled coming up with a good casting pattern. Looking forward to working on this constant tension cast. Thanks!

Great information..I fish heavy Clousers to get deep for largemouth and have been bouncing/shocking on the back cast. This video finally fixed that! Thank you! 🎣

I love watching Tim cast and hearing him speak! So cool to watch how confident and aware he is at 1:22 to know exactly where his fly is, and where it's going.

I really struggle casting Clouser Minnows from a boat fishing for Smallmouth Bass what type of rod do you recommend for this application a fast action Salt Water rod or maybe a fiberglass rod that may absorb some of the back cast shock I currently use a 6 weight 9ft Orvis Helios II Saltwater or an 8 Weight 8'4" Scott Sector or if its windy an old Sage 9 weight 9'6" RPLXI rod I need help I really want to get much better at casting these types of flies because most of my fishing is done with this set up and it would make fly fishing much more enjoyable . Thanks, Chris

Hand over head idea is key. 😊

"...allows room for that junk..." Amen. I'm really curious, what do you consider the maximum distance between an indicator (a small thinga or airlock) and say two 2.8mm tungsten beadheads (in other words, the rig depth more or less) that is castable to a distance of say 40 feet? Those deep nymph rigs are tough casting.

*Very good rod. Fit and finish is excellent. I've caught everything from 6oz Rio Grande cichlids to 5-6lb bass, loads of sunfish, blue gill, and even catfish and carp with this rod. It feels good in the hand, not too heavy for its weight.!*

I have been searching and searching for a good tutorial for this and finally found it. I JUST tried nymph fishing last fall and all I got is tangles. Thank you - can't wait to try it out!

I fish large mouth with an 8 weight rod and 325 grain shooting head. I can cast flies as big as 2/0 and 3/0 from a boat using this casting method just fine.

Awesome tips! I was just dealing with some of these issues. The Belgian cast works exceptionally well with windy conditions and heavy nymph rigs
