Where I live there there is also a full art festival going on dedicated to him. Its really thoughtful in all honesty. Key West really treasures this man not only for writing novels but just in general. We still have where he sat at and at what resturant, what street he walked down on, what tree he touched, All of his great great grandcats, his house now became a museum dedicated to him
I think he's now enjoying such a renaissance in terms of personal popularity because he's viewed as authentic and real. People are celebrity-obsessed and want to experience a piece of him and his world. Mr. Hemingway cared deeply about his work. You hear him say that he's always working on a book. Despite his enormous fame, he lived in an era before such fame could overwhelm or compromise a person's principles. He didn't go on book tours, make the rounds of talk-shows, or endorse products. He collaborated on a number of movies based on his stories but disliked most of them. His fame came out of his revolutionary style of writing, one that fit and, in many ways, shaped modern times, i.e., the 20th-century and beyond. He lived his art. Yes, there was an element of imagery and showmanship but he really engaged in the activities and pursuits most commonly associated with the writer--bullfighting, sailing, fishing, hunting. Mr. Hemingway was a "man's man", in an age that now seems to frown on overt masculinity. He was the real deal, dedicated to his art but also living the life he wanted to live, largely unaffected by wealth and adulation. In fact, he often complained privately how such demands on his time were unwelcome and exasperating, wanting to be left in peace, so he could work. Yes, he had some personal faults but who doesn't? The author's final years certainly were tragic for him. I have immense sympathy for his condition and demise. The work, and the man, live on--in Key West and, far more importantly, in the history of world literature.
Fame didn't eat him; he was in two plane-crashes in Africa in 1954, one of which gave him brain damage from trying to bash the plane door open with his head because the rest of him was too burned to use. He in turn received electro-shock therapy which left gaps in his memory and severely increased his depression. It all began with those crashes.
O.K I'll bite. The two plane crashes finished him. That said, suicide ran in his family like an undertow, taking about half of his generation, brother, sister, and then of course the father. Having had my fair share of concussions in life, they do damage that the N.F.L. could (if they cared), have asked me about. I grew up in Ketchum. I know Muffit, still see her at Barnes and Noble. With her stack of fashion magazines and Big Gulp from McDonalds. She doesn't know what country she's in. Remembers my name, not me. She was the most talented of the 3 girls. I saw her last in 68', she went off the deep end soon after. Margot, who was too young I never knew. Offed herself, as you know. Puck, her mother was my neighbor. Most beautiful woman I ever saw. Strong woman. Stable. She is about the only one I can say that about. Bud Purdey was the biggest asshole in Picaboo. Oh well. I could go on....
Not exactly. He suffered from depression...bipolar...all his life. He used alcohol and women to self- medicate. He would not stop either one. Later, all of it would catch up and that, with many electric shock treatments on two occasions in the Mayo clinic. brought on bouts of suicidal thoughts. There are at least 7 suicides in his family starting with his father. Google Mariel Hemingway as she talks about being his granddaughter in their family. Very interesting.
he was friends with somebody from my little town the man from my little town got rich in mining i went to his house when i was little he had a trophy room from all of his hunting trips i remember a lion and ahuge bear i dont believe in tropy hunting but when i was little it was pretty impressive

Hemingway suffered from hemachromatosis on both sides of his family. Hemachromatosis is a genetic precursor for suicide. That is why there are so many suicides in his family, on both sides. It was not known in the 1950s, nor in the early 1960s, that hemachromatosis is a genetic precursor for suicide. It is amazing that he lived as long as he did, and likewise, amazing that he survived all the combat he survived. There were other factors involved with his suicide, particularly the fact that he never forgave himself for leaving Hadley, his first wife, even though she forgave him. But the main thing was hemachromatosis. Today, it is a very treatable condition. RIP, Hemingway.

People should do meditation. AMERICAns eat a lot drink a lot without any parameters. Meditation still ur body at all levels and helps body to correct by itself. So such things will not happen. Too much lust for money and things kills a man and americans r victims of that. Meditate and save urself

Why I stopped drinking. Started having some mental health issues and knew it would only add fuel to the fire.

Haemochromatosis!!! One of the many symptoms is depression and pain the abdomen. He was in a lot of pain. :(
