Mr. Duane, my Hermes 3000 was missing the two prongs! Should I try to source some or make some myself? Know of any alternatives you may be willing to share? Thanks!
I sold the pair I had from a parts machine couple yrs ago, As mentioned on FB, Jaques Perrier is the best source Very precision pieces, they need to be exact
Does the platen rod moving from left to right? I'm missing two right set screw for the knob handle to the carriage rod. I've tried everything and I'm ready to solder.
Hello, I haven't had one of these on the bench in years, I would need refresher course how to fix. . . Try the 3000group, facebook.com/groups/hermes3000
Hey Duane, first thanks a bunch for sharing your knowledge thru all your cool videos, it's really a pleasure learning about the intriciate ways these machines work her on your channel. Secondly, I have a question regarding the Hermes 3000: I have just bought the same model as in this video in excellent condition, that I would like to clean and use so I need to take of the casing. My question is, whether I can use the same basic procedure to get the casing and carriage of it, as you have shown in the video on how to disassemble the earlier Seafoam version? Ore should I take notice to any particular problem relating to the boxy model? Best regards, Atle (Denmark, Europe)
There was some differences , but basically same. I do find it strange how high quality the Hermes are but not very technician friendly, some machines are defiantly designed to be dis-assembled easy and be able to stand naked (without and casing)
@@phoenixtypewriter2136 Yes, I'm also very impressed by the build quality and technical skill that has gone into designing and building these machines and was baffled from your vid on how easy it was to take of the carriage, it seems to be a very complicated procedure on other machines. But at the same time some of the other features look very unique in their design! Bone the less I look forward to use your method getting it fixes and will keep you posted on how everything goes (read: bluntly ask for further help when everything soon goes haywire) 😆😆😆 Thank you for your kind help Duane! Best, Atle
Thank you so much for the video ! but while removing the platen I've messed up with the system that sets interlinear... The carriage return lever doesn't roll the platen upwards anymore. I've tried for hours to fix this issue but so far without success... It's like the dent on the carriage return lever got over instead of under the little mechanism on the left of the carriage (the thing with a hole and springs just left to the platen normally)... Has that ever happened to you 😅? I hope It's a easy fix ! Thanks anyway for the vid, it has been really helpful cause that platen is so hard to remove in comparaison with other typewriters.
Hey Dwayne, I don't want to bug you with a phone call, :-) any chance you have a couple of spares lying around? I bought a Hermes 3000 off eBay from Dustin Thompson in Oklahoma, and he shipped it with ZERO packing material. The left knob is broken, and the right one is just missing. Might have fallen out during shipping because it was packed THAT badly. Hope to hear back soon. I can come pick it up whenever.
No, there are some people on Facebook who have made 3D knobs, Also the Hermes typewriter dealer in Switzerland has these new, he can be reached thru FB too. Make sure you get refunded for that purchase, ebay has a no questions ask, no contact to seller if "Not as Described" refund policy.
Thanks for that tip. I'll check out the Swiss connection. Sadly, eBay denied my claim because I got a bad feeling even before he shipped it and requested he cancel it. He refused and spun it that I just didn't have the money. They sure with him. The appeal as well :-(
The Good Lord Blessed me with fat fingers, and therefore I have one heck of a time with those small screws and washers, and then you throw my involuntary tremors in my hands into the mix, and it can get to be pretty frustrating at times.
Your videos are a great service to the typewriter community, thank you Duane!
Thanks Joe !
Let other people binge-watch Game of Thrones. I binge-watch Phoenix Typewriter. Nice work!
I enjoy your videos. You're a great resource, sir!
This is so helpful! Thank you for posting these videos. So much great information for a novice like me.

Yes I have had many struggles with the left side re-assembly
To the point of having to reference a good machine for clues
@@phoenixtypewriter2136 Thanks I'll try that. and you managed to fix that way ?
@@cyrils.1194 I have figured out many mystery's by inspecting machines side by side
Do you know if the platen knobs on a Hermes Baby from the same years can be used as spares for a 3000? Thanks.
No I don't think so, Baby are much smaller
@@phoenixtypewriter2136 Thanks!
How does one go about procuring those little inserts that are in the hub? Mine are bent and the free-wheel no longer works.
Those are special, you're gonna need a donor / parts machine.
