    Learning new language indeed expands your brain. I am learning shona because I have a shona friend that tries so hard to learn my language and I am doing the same for him.

    Looking forward to learning chiShona. My bf/baby daddy is from Zim, last year I felt so out of place when we took my baby to meet her granny for the first time in Zimbabwe and she only spoke Shona. My baby daddy had to be my translator the whole week😪

    I am learning because my friends are shona and they feel somethings are better said in shona, and i have found that it sound like a few SA languages like xhosa and venda

    • @speak-shona

      Oooh good reason! Love it!! yeah every language is like that, there are just some things that do not translate lol! And yes we share roots with Venda and Xhosa as Bantu languages :)

    I want to learn the language, not to impress anyone actually. I think Shona is easy for a Nguni speaking person like me. Learning the language to impress someone means when the relationship goes sour, learning will stop. I am swlf motivated to learn the language beyond the people i know.Lets go😎

    Thank you very much for the channel. I have been looking to learn Shona so that i can connect better with my roots because recently found out that my grandparents from my father's side come from Zimbabwe(I was born and grew up in SOuth Africa). These lessons are exactly what i need. and i have 2 questions that I would like you to help me with: 1. How do i become fluent in the language if I have no one close who knows Shona and I can communicate to them in the language? 2. Do you know or ever heard of the surname Sibasa or something like that in Zimbabwe? I would really appreciate if you help wit these questions

    • @speak-shona
      @speak-shona  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi fluency is related to how much input and contact you have with the language. what you want to do is listen a lot to Shona content, find people taking and listen even if you don't get it, your brain works magic in the background and you will begin to recognise more and more as you add lessons. Also start reading chiShona, I am busy preparing materials to help student with this so subscribe to find out when I launch :)
      The surname Sibasa I'm not sure of origin, it could be one of the more southern dialects e.g Kalanga or even Venda or Ndebele in origin. My research says it could mean "The king of the wild (male lion)".
