I read a little bit about Shona, and it is fascinating. Apparently the slight whistles she makes with her teeth are not a speech impediment, they are actually consonants in Shona. This is a beautiful language.

Being born in Zimbabwe and moving to the UK when I was 5 (I am now nearly 18), I feel I now, more than ever, understand the importance of cherishing and keeping my heritage and culture alive. I'm glad I can still understand most of what you have said in this video and want to continue learning more Shona. You spoke it beautifully sister. Thank you Wikitongues for posting :)

Hi Chido, I have a question. I'm a huge fan of the soccer team Club Brugge and Marvelous Nakamba. I would really like to have his match worn shirt, and therefore I'm making a banner with his native language Shona on. But I don't speak Shona :) Could you translate this sentence for me? "Can I have your shirt, please?" Thank you so much!

I was aware of the click consonants in the other West(?) African languages, but I wasn't aware of the whistled consonants. I've always been intrigued by the languages in Africa, their features and distinct sounds and what not. Sadly though, I can't seem to be able to (or figure out how to) make most of the sounds in the languages there but I'll work on them for the future.
