  • Video 2: BOSS GE-7 Equalizer as preamp and cabinet simulator. Testing the Boss SD-1, OD-2r, BD-2, DS-1, MD-2 and RV-3 directly to audio interface. SUBSCRIBE HERE: goo.gl/LqsqRR / *I set up the pedalboard this way just to make the video! 🙏👍 Thanks! ►Hello guys! No amps and no later editions. The sound you hear in the video did not pass through any speakers. The signal left the pedalboard, entered in the audio interface and was recorded by the DAW on the computer's HD. Once saved (wav), this audio was taken to Sony Vegas and joined to the video recorded by the camera. After synchronization, the ambient audio that the camera recorded was deleted from Vegas, leaving only the video + the wav audio recorded by the DAW. My Yamaha monitors are always OFF when I record my videos. I'm always just using my headphones to monitor while I record. Thanks everyone!

    Man!! This is not the 1st time I say this. You are f***ing amazing!! You are a great guitar player, you are a great guitar and sound tech in terms of sound settings and everything and last but not least, you a great human being for sharing all these to us. Again I say, Boss should have paid you. They should pay you. Thank you for showing the setting, the signal chain and everything. The guitar world needs more people like you. So, thank you, sir!! May God bless you 🙏🏻🙏🏻.. Keep on rock n roll 🤘🤘

      I'm very happy. For me, good experiences should be shared. We started in caves without any knowledge and today we have probes on Mars and also two probes outside the Solar system. Each human being sharing what he has in his hands with the other. It is part of our essence. During this process I learn a lot because the subscriber's requests are real challenges. At the channel beginning in 2016, I didn't like fuzz and muff sounds. Today I love it! I'm very grateful. 🙏🎸

    Impressionante! Além de conseguir replicar o timbre de um simulador atuando na equalização do GE-7, Timbrou o mesmo riff com diferentes pedais e ficou excelente!!!
    Isso é para mostrar para amadores como eu que, o que importa não é o equipamento e sim a competência, dedicação e criatividade do músico.
    Eu tenho um pedal (mini) hot tubes da Electro Harmonics, que ficaria interessante junto com o GE-7 para timbrar um som Clean, vou tentar!!!

    Putz legal.. minha experiência é no início dos anos 2000 eu tinha uma Zoom 505 1 e ela é terrível em linha..aconteceu que peguei um Boss Ge7 emprestado por tempo indeterminado... e cara esse pedal além de ter tirado o som de abelha da 505 ligado em linha.. deixava a distorção massa cada vez que mexia no Boss era um som legal..isso tudo eu ainda tava nos primeiros anos de guitarra

    • @DirectRecordingGuitar
      @DirectRecordingGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Comigo também Tulio! Final dos anos 90 e eu ainda adolescente estava começando a trabalhar profissionalmente com música em uma banda de bailes. Na época não existiam simuladores. Só depois disso apareceram pedais da Sansamp e bem depois o AMT F1 e eu fui esquecendo do Ge7 com o tempo. Só lembrei porque há um mês mais ou menos encontrei fotos antigas do pedalboard da época com CS-2 e outros clássicos kkk. Eu usava equipamentos que pertenciam à banda então aprendi isso com o guitarrista mais antigo que tinha saído pra acompanhar um artista nacional da época. Eu não entendia porque o EQ com esses cortes deixava o som tão bom ao vivo, só agora depois de tantos anos e simuladores usados entendi. :) Abração cara!

      Thanks! I know, it's a crazy experiment. haha But believe it or not, back in the late 90s when I was 15, I used it that way because there were no amp simulators available here until Tech 21 released the GT2 Sansamp. That's when I could finally use the Fender simulation at the end of my pedalboard chain. Anyway, now we have the Boss IR-2 so we can leave the GE-7 to do his job in peace :) *Of course, I'm referring to the Boss effects world. Today we have thousands of simulators made by various companies. BOSS IR-2 playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLrxXQYEp-_uiatzGz7M4VJx2Gy-AtYIa6.html

      É isso mesmo Alfredo! Um pedal EQ é indispensável no set. Isso é um dos motivos de gostar da Boss, além de terem excelentes timbres quando apresentam algum defeito, se apresentarem, já foram usados por 20 anos ou mais rs. Meu Ce3 segue firme e forte com uns 35 anos. :) E o RV3 tá com 21. Edit: Claro, estou descartando o mal uso que alguns users cometem ao usarem fontes inadequadas e outras doideiras kk Se usar da forma certa as caixinhas vão durar no mínimo como seu Rv3. São ótimos.

    what a great video. I didn't know the ge7 could be used as a preamp / cab. How fortunate I have this pedal and the metal zone, in a behringer clone version jajaja. I wanted to ask you something, I have a boss me25 and I had the doubt if I activate the cab simulator (phones), can I put a pedal at the end like an rv-3 reverb and from this last pedal, send everything to the audio table or to the audio interfaces? Will the reverb interfere with the boss me25 cab simulator? 🎶👍🤘

  • @iresentdoingthis1550
    @iresentdoingthis1550 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is astounding/fascinating. I wonder if this can be done on the Line6 HX Effects - the one with only effects and no amp/cab simulation but with over 100 effects?
    Also maybe a viable way of tweaking / putting a 7 band EQ pre or post the Helix Cab to tailor the tone of their cabs without getting into IRs.

    • @DirectRecordingGuitar
      @DirectRecordingGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never had HX in my hands. But if it has an EQ, it can be done. Check out the frequencies on the GE7 and repeat on the HX EQ. Completely close all frequency ranges above 6.4k that may exist in the EQ. Lightly enhance around 3.2k, decrease it a little bit at 400hz. The way is more or less like this.

      Taiwan, todo original de fábrica. Zero ruídos aqui. Há dois momentos no vídeo em que surge ruídos leves mas um deles foi o excesso de boost no MD2, quando eu diminuo ele cessa e com o Sd1 empurrando o Bd2 por excesso de drive no Sd1 também. Há um mês encontrei fotos antigas de meus pedalboards, resolvi testar e tive essa grata surpresa :) Comparei com alguns simuladores que tenho (pedais e pedaleiras) e na verdade estou achando o Ge7 até melhor que vários deles pois além de deixar os drives bons, os timbres clean também ficam ótimos sem aquela compressão esquisita que alguns simuladores fazem. É ótimo pra usar ao vivo, a guitarra fica verdadeiramente "na cara" pois os falantes dos PAs e monitores de áudio entram na equação e completam o timbre então ao vivo fica até melhor que no vídeo. Pra gravações em linha IRs são melhores pois trazem texturas de falantes e mics reais aos timbres. Edit: Chegou a ver o primeiro vídeo? th-cam.com/video/Fe5RwHB4V4Q/w-d-xo.html Abração cara! Obrigado!

      Hi Carlos... Theoretically yes. I used the GT100's "Natural Clean" preamp/cab as a reference to get these GE-7 settings. So we can even send the signal directly from the pedals to the mixer/PA system. Test on your amp as each amp reacts in different ways. If necessary, make personal adjustments to make your sound the way you like it. Thanks bro!

Sometimes we have to make specific settings just for recordings and other settings just for live shows because at high volumes the frequencies behave differently and are enhanced. Using the GE7 this is very easy, just increasing or decreasing the 3.2k frequency range and keeping the other ranges as they are in the video.

      @@DirectRecordingGuitar I should have said - "it's the general view", not your opinion. I want to go back and explore EQs as an alternative to cab sims - there is much more granular control to play around with a graphic EQ.

    • @DirectRecordingGuitar
      @DirectRecordingGuitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I've done quick tests using only the Gt100's EQ and it looked great but when I compared it to the Natural Clean preamp/cab and SM57 in the Center, I liked the Natural Clean better. But I will try again in the future. It was a quick test. Edit: I'm a guy who likes Metal Zone while "the general view" destroys it. :) Sometimes guitar forums create "truths" that don't work for many people, because we all have different views and versions of the world around us. I think the Cab Box is better. I think IRs are better than the GE7. What I want to demonstrate with these videos is that the GE7 can be used this way in an emergency, if we run out of amp or IR loader at a live show. But the IRs get everything closer to a real amp. Edit: I have a GE7 vs Cab Box video here on the computer. But I never published. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and maybe I'll post it.

      @DirectRecordingGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! It more closely resembles amp simulators such as AMT F1, Joyo California Sound, Mooer Micropreamps or multi-effects simulations. It works great and I really like it, but the IRs bring real speakers and mics textures. Anyway, it's all about EQs. I still don't know if it's possible to sound like IRs with just an EQ. Perhaps a more complete EQ, with a greater amount of frequency ranges. But I don't have an EQ with these characteristics in my hands.
