Your videos found me during one of my lowest points in my life, having gone through addiction and mental health issues myself at that time (3 years sober nov 10, 2023) fishing and ice fishing in general helped get my life and enjoyment for life back on the right track, your videos always being a highlight to my day no matter how crappy I was feeling during that time. What really means a lot is getting to watch you and some other crazy bastards ice fish to your hearts desire whenever you can because my season is so insanely limited. The content is top notch. And I'd love to see another teaspoon/tablespoon hammerjob on some big mamas if you had time in the future.

I think some videos like this are awesome too by the way… couple of my favourites off the top of my head were Suka catching a fish and destroying all your gear in the midst of it, and I loved the commentary of when you were hammering fish on the tampon lol all your videos are great though!

Hey man, unbelievable. Been watching you since day 1, and you’re my fave ice fishing content on TH-cam by far.
It’s really sweet that you talk about mental health and are an advocate for it in today’s day and age. Question for you regarding that: did you find with the constant daylight in the arctic summers that mental health with everyone improved vs the complete darkness of the winter? How do communities in the high north deal with such ebbs and flows? I find here in Alberta it impacts people significantly, so I wonder about the further extremes.

I'm glad you appreciate that kind of transparency. I'm sure it may look a certain way to some people but I'm not too concerned about anyone's negative perception.
I talk about it openly and publicly because normalizing that kind of conversation is the only thing that's going to reduce the stigma behind it and get others talking before it's ultimately gets worse.
And in terms of the north and the differing daylight.. it's really difficult to say for sure. The northern population faces soo many other variables that complicate the issue immensely. I would say for myself personally, I feel much brighter and overall less fatigue when the sun doesn't set despite it being a lot harder to fall and stay asleep.
I'm actually thinking of doing a MH focused video where people submit anonymous questions that I'll either answer personally or find the answer to!

Man I REALLY want to spend some time there this may. Almost every year someone gets a 45+ there and it's typically fished one weekend a year for the fishing derby. I've heard of a similar spot at the other end of the lake where 50s are caught!

I totally know how common these problems are, but society makes it taboo to talk about it. This is me doing my part to help show that it's not bad to talk about!
I like to eat the like 22-26 inchers. Lots of those guys have the nice pink/orange meat which is absolutely delicious. I think once they switch their diet over to primarily eating other fish, they start to get a little nasty with the gross white meat
In my area Central OR its mainly trout macks, bulls,brown,bows right now pretty much all I eat are koks and crappy in this area usually smoke any samonoid and bow . Have you tried smoking Lakers or are they too fatty?

Ontario, i could fish walters and back lake trout but the area on lake Ontario i fish never locked up. warmth, wind and big boats ruined it for everyone last year. @@JustinJenkenAssortedMeats

My mental health would dip too as my fire crotch slowly turns into a ash crotch. On a serious note I struggle this time of year too SAD. I force my self to go a walk daily when its light out to get me some vitamin D (not a perfect cure but might help a bit)
Hahaha, like I always say, if ya play with fire crotch you're gonna get ash crotch. Or something like that.
I definitely think the change in season and dramatic reduction in daylight plays a factor for me too. Been slacking on my vit d too!! Magnesium + vit day actually makes an incredible combo!!
