    As a beginner I’m definitely going to get into it. Thx a lot you never disappoint

    There is also the option for Color Film. You can get up to 400ft Kodak Vision 3 rolls to load your own color negative film. But you'll probably need to develop those yourself, since they use the ECN-2 process. (And also the remjet shenanigans.) I'm going to attempt this myself in the near future.

      Kodak also do 400ft of Ektachrome for a bit more, but it doesn’t have the remjet as far as i’m aware

      Yeah! Do it! I bought a 400ft roll of kodak double X (B+W) which i develop myself and a 400ft roll of kodak vision 3 250D which i develop at a local lab here in the Netherlands. I have about 200ft left of both films and absolutely love it.

    Very good to know! I’m experiencing the costs of film, and having it developed, processed and scanned. I’m looking to cut down on costs in the future.

    Prefect timing! I needed a little reminder on how to do this before starting again. Got a fresh 100ft roll of double-x waiting for me.

    Thanks for doing this video, very helpful! Quick question, when you open bulk film in dark bag do you have to also open plastic bag around film spool? Is it an open plastic bag? Or do you have to break apart bag to pull film spool out? Thanks In advance! …cool to see you are also a Bay Area native! Enjoying your channel and personal story, best always🙏🏻

    I was looking at getting into bulk loading but the company I work for started stocking 36exp HP5 and with our staff pricing, it actually worked out to be only a 40c difference per roll compared to bulk loading. Australian pricing but $18 retail down to just over $7 on staff discount.

    At this time in Aug 2024, the cheapest price for 30.5 meter roll of HP5+ in the Uk is just over £100.00. This makes the price of a single 36 exposure of the bulk loaded HP5+ about £5.50, which is a considerable saving over a single preloaded film. Guess what Kodak's pricing is for the same length of the Tri-X? I tell you, just under £200.00 if you could find it. This means that there is absolutely no savings in buying 30.5 meter rolls of Tri-X and bulk loading, unless the relentless Kodak price increases accelerate even faster.

    Used to use black plastic rolls specifically made for bulk loading. There was no scotch tape. Had to thread it.

    I tried to save a few bucks and bought a really old Lloyd's loader from the 60's on ebay, then loaded it with Kentmere 400. I guess there's some grit trapped in the felt light trap, because it scratches the shit out of my film, do do beware and make sure yall do it right.

    This has nothing to do with the video but I recently got into shooting film and there is something I'm super confused on. If I'm pushing or pulling my film, how would that effect where I put my shutter speed?

    Can color film be bulk loaded too?

  • @thomastheman7331
    @thomastheman7331 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks. I wondered how this was done. Question: Is there a way to reuse the film canister, since you have to open the canister when it’s time to develop it. Is there any way to not damage the canister?

    • @guilleliss
      @guilleliss ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't damage the canister too much, you can put the lid back on and it should be okay. Another way to get the film out of the canister is by using a "film retriever", this way you don't damage the canister at all and can reuse as many times. I started using this method to get the film out, and it is quite easy once you get the technique, and you can do it in daylight since you only get the first few inches of film out.

    Nice one! I have been playing with the idea of rolling my own films anytime soon as I am shooting more and more.
    I've seen that they also sell empty canisters specially made for this, pretty inexpensive. Any reason to pick either used vs the purpose made ones? Other than recycling used canisters is more ecological. Also, within the bulk film options I've found the Rollei 400S, have you tried this one?

    • @fcallo
      @fcallo ปีที่แล้ว

      the problem with new canisters is that you need to make sure the film is perfectly attached to the spool, otherwise, it'd be a pain in the ass to remove it from the camera. By using used canisters, you know the film is well attached so you just need to make sure you taped it correctly.

    • @guilleliss
      @guilleliss ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fcallo I've seen videos of people using tape similarly with new canisters. It seems to work, and you can easily open and close the canister since it is made for that. Anyhow, Im happy to try both when I get into bulk loading.

  • @JacobLChrisawn
    @JacobLChrisawn 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    dude how is this cheaper 60 to 100 buck for 100 feet of film and then the roller is 50 bucks then counting how many you need of the canisters if you dont have any then the cassettes if you dont have any it doesnt seem cheaper in the end.
