So the one I smoked was very old but the modern one (more a crumble cake than a true whole leaf plug) was really quite good indeed. But yes this smoke was a real treat indeed Silviu. Thanks for watching, I’ve been enjoying your videos and nice to put a face to your name after years of comments. Go well

Excellent video, the original tobacco quality of yesteryears , the taste you describe is smooth, bread or yeast notes and rich with the aged dark fired. De-li-zio-so Bravo 👏 cheers and thanks for sharing. Take care, S

Perhaps the tea is Indian Darjeeling?

You’ve tried the original Sandro? Your review is bang in line with my thoughts on it. Pity it’s gone but the new incarnation is fab in its own right.

Wow very special Phil! Thanks so much for sharing this w us. As a fan of the current war horse red it was awesome to see this. I do believe Russ tried to copy the original w the current ver but def topping of vanilla, floral, and cinnamon notes w that excellent Kentucky. Another example of this great community. Enjoy my friend. Hope ur well and great to see you. Best wishes.

I loved this and the new version as well. This was smooth Kentucky and malty bready Virginias with a touch of floral but I think whatever toppings it had are long gone but great to try.

Sounds great. That's cool how they stamped it. Very nice of him to send that.

Good stuff Phil - man what a pleasant opportunity. I've only smoked it a couple of times myself as my step-father smoked this stuff religously along with McQuaid's, Revor and Warrior. The great thing is with that compression the tobacco will just last for decades sitting on a shelf, from memory I found it a good smooth and strong smoke but that was more than twenty years ago.
I read that the original contained Belladonna, amongst other things, that Russ couldn't add (against FDA regulations) and it did indeed have a topping which I remember sweet and treacle or golden syrup-like with florals - but I think it changed during it's lifespan (I read that the '80s version was sweeter).

Belladonna wow! I have half a plug of Mick McQuaid left and I smoke it sparingly these days.

You're a lucky man Phil, getting to try the original War Horse. Thanks for letting us know your thoughts - if only it was still in production! Great video 👍😀

This is really cool Phil, I was always interested in hearing what the original plug tasted like and how it compared to the Russ version. That stamp is great as well, funny the modern blenders have not tried the stamp thing as well,

Thing is those crumble cakes are so soft the embossed logo would probably disappear. Nice to see you Jeff

I'm so chuffed you liked it Phil, I got that smooth/slightly sweet, malty taste from it too. Just to let you know, the bar is approximately from 95 or 96,you could still get it here up till then.
    All the best!
