Great tie, love the fly. I have one question if you don't mind. I would like to understand the thinking behind the black thread under yellow floss. Since the color will show through, is this for an effect that makes it enticing for the fish? Or is it another reason. I ask because I have seen other tiers do it, and I never understood why. You seem the sincere teaching type. I believe there is no stupid question. Hope you don't mind. All the best for great Holidays, Sean
I'll have to pass the question on to Rob. Some tyers, myself included, use white thread to avoid the thread colour impacting the floss when wet. A Sharpie is then used to colour the white thread to whatever head colour we want. Peter
Thanks, when Rob gives you an answer please let me know. I usually use white under yellow, but I have seen many tiers use black under it and I don't want to miss something that will catch more fish. All the best for the holiday season. Sean
Sean Mooney Rob just called to say that he ties the fly with both black or white thread. Some guys he knows tie the fly with black all of the time, but having a fly tied both ways gives us the choice between a bright fly and a toned down fly.
fantastic tied fly Rob, and a very good tip to fill up the space on the nearside.
Thanks.
I am wondering how to catch salmon for years and I have been trying this fly just changed that I love it
Love your videos Rob!!

Don't you mean convexed for that Hackle? concaved would be the underside of the hackle facing the hook eye or you.
