Kiryu Coco was also partially inspired to join Hololive because she liked a particular Gen 1 talent, Akai Haato, aka Haachama. Haachama is also bilingual, though not as fluent as Coco. We earlier members of the fanbase sort of consider Haachama and Coco to be the unofficial Hololive English Gen 0. Sometimes called Holo Meth. Because they're just a bit crazy.

6:17 This is actually incorrect information. Coco is ethnically Japanese, I believe, but was born in the US, in the Atlanta area. English is her native language. She eventually moved to Japan and had to teach herself Japanese (with I think her stated motivation for learning being so she could properly enjoy her favorite game series, Yakuza).

Coco has spoken before publicly that she is half-Japanese. I believe it was her mom. If I'm not mistaken, IRyS said the same thing, except she grew up overseas her whole life, so is hella fluent in JP.

About Country Roads. The cover was popular because it was the first song ever to be released with all of Myth singing. It was also an official cover of a hit western song when typically Hololive covers are Japanese songs.
The girls however are not fans. Kiara has bluntly stated that she hates how her voice sounds on the track, Amelia multiple times cracked jokes at the song's expense. I think Calli provided the biggest insight into the problems with the track however when she revealed that all five of them recorded the full song with absolutely no knowledge of which parts of the song would be isolated for their solos, leading to the whole thing being more lifeless than it needed to be. Overall, the girls seem to regard it as an awkward artifact of yhe sometimes poor direction they were recieving in the early days of Myth.

At that time the song was already a meme, involving one of those "if you know you know" situations centered on Gura. She uh. Had sung the song before.

The channel "Dream World Witch" has about 20 guides to hololive talents, (they are imo the best guides) but only a fraction of the company. Nagzz Discovers channel also does great introductions to hololive members. Nagzz covers around 50 (out of around 80) talents, but the videos are longer. Also, the "Recollection" videos on the Holovive English channel briefly cover Myth lore.
I think the only Myth Lore that you have not seen is Ina. Ina is a priestess of "the Ancient Ones." Based on the books of H.P. Lovecraft, the Ancient Ones are the Gods that created the Gods that created the universe. Specifically, Ina is linked to Cthulhu, the octopus-dragon God of pure evil.
With that, I think you're about ready for Myth's Bad Ending.

8:40 to be fair, both pronunciations are used. The way you say it is the Japanese pronunciation which even Calli will use herself when introducing herself in Japanese. The way its said in the video here is the standard English pronunciation for the name though.

11:35 Calli recently hit the billboard top 100 list
19:00 If you seriously want to do a video for every hololive song, you will never be done. I'm 100% serious. I'm estimating based on the discography on their official website; If you do 1 song per day, it will take about 2 years just to catch up to today. And it feels like the song releases have been accelerating recently as more and more members join. There's a reason we call it the rabbit hole.
29:00 this cover was apparently recorded all separately, and the mixer had to do their best to sync and tune their voices with each other. The scuffed result is a reminder of how Myth struggled alongside the fans in the 2020-2021 lockdowns. Also, I'm pretty sure Gura chose this song as a nod to her previous persona iykyk

*We also can't forget the drama that was happening between the CCP and Kiryu Coco. It was a sort of massive problem back then, which clouded and made it hard for some of them to grasp what they were doing back then. And Hololive at the time was trying to deal with their Chinese branch and all of the wars going on online when we had "anti's" show up everywhere trying to harrass certain vtubers for even greeting Kiryu Coco, which again the HololiveEN branch being promoted and thought of by Kiryu Coco themselves. In the effort to expand, but it came out of a cost because seemingly it bothered the ccp's "one-china" rule, and Haachama was sadly involved in this abuse herself and was the dragged around. We also, of course, had the pandemic. But they are very long stories.*

It's not just that more members join means more songs, it has also been accelerating because they're making more and more money, which means they have more budget available to pour into their passions which for a lot of them includes singing. Some of them even started hiring full blown anime studios to animate their music videos (a huge expense, that is unlikely to be recouped from the views of the song alone). That, if nothing else, really shows how passionate many of them are about music.
I honestly think the choice of "Country Roads" had nothing to do with Gura's previous persona, she just genuinely loves that song, it's why she used to sing it almost every Karaoke both before and after joining Hololive.

The way you were saying Calliope was a more Japanese pronunciation. The name Calliope is Greek in origin, so... yeah. Also... they all hate the Country Roads cover. Overall quality was below most of their standards, and it was rushed to begin with.

  • @lareolanKFP
    @lareolanKFP วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Country Roads is one of Gura's favourite songs, and she used to sing it pretty much every Karaoke early on (including even before she joined Hololive). Sadly, this cover is showing its age as it happened before they got to meet together, or even had access to a studio, so they all had to record their parts separately at home using their home equipment and then it needed to be blended and mixed together, which isn't the best process to say the least. It's a great accomplishment and meant a lot to them at the time, but they've all also mentioned at times that they're not happy with how the final song sounded.
Please, please, PLEASE check out "A Million Miles Away" cover by Hakos Baelz. It's CRIMINALLY underrated!

you asked about salome, about why her growth was a topic for another day. the reason is that there is some subtle controversy about it. she absolutely exploded and had completely insande early growth, reaching a million in like 2-3 weeks and having consistent live streams with 50-100k live views. however, not too long after she broke around 1.3-1.5 million subs, this basically dried up overnight. her sub growth slowed to a crawl overnight, and her live view dropped off a cliff to only a few thousand. in the 2.5 years since then she has slowly grown to 1.8 million subs and consistently has around 5k viewers per livestream, which is basically 'average' to 'good' viewership and growth rate for a JP nijisanji vtuber, but it's not incredible or anything. the controversy is that she debuted alone, and given then severe dropoff without explanation, there is strong speculation that nijisanji basically spent a lot of money on a lot of bots and bot accounts to artificially boost her account in the early days, in the hopes that it would continue on it's own momentum with the YT algorithm having been convinced she was amazing, and the sudden dropoff was when the botting ended.
now, there is currently very little confirmed information about this, the only supporting evidence we have is that other nijisanji talents have had viewership activity consistent with bots that were speculated to be funded/provided by nijisanji management, so it is completely possible that something about her really just grabbed everyones attention in the early days, and then she lost it and never recovered it, but we don't know. part of the speculation was that nijisanji was deliberately trying to make a niji-gura to counter guras dominating market presence, and that it failed, because at this point she's simply a decently but not significantly popular niji vtuber, but she's not setting any new records and hasn't done so since the very early days immediately after her debut.
just to be clear, no criticism towards the liver at all, any possible criticism from this is pointed at niji management, salaome is a fine vtuber, she just doesn't stand out as being particularly unique except for her debut

@@delphy2478 my understanding of it at the time was that she was previously someone that was already well known before debut. I also recall that the whole thing was intended to be a one shot event and she was originally intended to graduate on hitting the million mark but stayed around. It was a pretty confusing situation I only half followed though so I might not have it right.

People _vastly_ overstate Coco's influence in the English vtuber scene scene. Before she ever debuted, Korone, Fubuki, Miko, and Hololive's Azur Lane collab brought them a lot of Western attention through memes and the like. Haachama was the first English-speaking Hololive member, Hololive planned expanding into Indonesia in 2019 (Gen 1 debuted in April 2020), and Coco didn't have any influence in business decisions
