I LOVE annotating in my books! And I think it's fun to find a book in a Little Free Library or thrift store or used book store that has somebody else's annotations.. I dunno.. I think it's cool to see.

Omg getting hate for writing in books is horrendous! We own the book I can do whatever I want. It’s gets so frustrating being told omg don’t write in your book. I love it I love rereading an annotated book it’s so much fun!

The notebook idea is really good!!
As someone who is new to annotating I still don't feel comfortable writing in my books, specially because the ones that I want to annotate are usually sci-fi/fantasy hardbacks, so I just use tabs + a notebook where I "explain" more what that tab means. It's a really fun and good way for people like me that are just starting out or might not feel comfortable to write in the book :) I usually write down the page number + my thoughts in the notebook and for the page number I use the same color as the tab, so that when I'm looking through my notes, it's easier for me to find what I want

The little annotating basket thing is so genuis!! I've been using a zipper pouch that lays out but it's still so chaotic. I love this idea!

That circular "annotation station" is amazing and beautiful and I love it. Also, I'm glad you mentioned about how sometimes you run out of tabs on bigger books. I've watched like 10 annotation videos and no one else mentioned that. So now I can make sure that I have enough tabs of my favorite colors for my bigger books.

I am a low-volume reader and i feel like I've still got that programming from school where you aren't supposed to write in your textbooks! lol. These are beautiful though, I love it! Reminds me of the "active reading" concept they drove home when I was studying English in college.

Using washi tape like that (and at all) is a great idea -- I think I will start doing that as well. Sometimes I want to mark a scene as a whole or whole section of something and this would be a great method for that 💜

I love those transparent Posties! I've used those in a couple books recently that I annotated for a friend. That way I can include my annotations without putting them directly in the book in case he didn't want that.. also good idea for library books! (taken out before returning of course)

LOVED this! I've gotten a lot more into annotating in the last few years and the little quotes you do are so cute, I definitely aspire to do that as well. I get a little nervous about annotating, even when I'm rereading, bc what if I don't like it as much? and end up unhauling it?? But I'm trying to get over that. I have a set system for annotating romances, bc I always mark the same things, but my annotating for all other books differ book to book.💙

Omg i completely share your opinions on tabs! Those weird circular ones are just criminal.
Also those pastel tabs are so aesthetic, but i just cant get myself to buy them because they really wont be enough! Although i did see this thing a youtuber did where they assigned two (sometimes even three) similar colours to a theme when making a key so that there would be enough tabs! Maybe that could help?

I am obsessed with annotating my books, its almost like a escape from the world. Also! It would be great if you could make a vid with middle grade and YA fast paced fantasy book recommendations! Because its been pretty hard to find some books and ive been in kind of a reading slump.
I used a Stabilo highlighter for annotating my book, but I found that it kinda bleeds trough. I wonder if the mild liner ones might be better. What are your experiences with highlighters that bleeds less? :) Thank you for a really insightful video! I love how thoroughly you do the annotation with all these different tools

I like my annotations to match my cover. I've only recently decided to do a couple different colors previously. I would only pick one color for annotating any book?
I'm a tabber but I've very rarely written in books, I think it stems from my private Catholic girls school upbringing that writing in a book is GASP sacrilege!!!! Haha! But in my re-read favourites I do have library cards in the front of them and I use tabs. I'd love to start adding a few annotations. Maybe I will!! X

i pick and choose my tab colors most of the time too, make my own sheet. i hate when i feel like i’m gonna run out of tabs. i just keep buying more of all of them so i have the colors i want, i have so many tab sheets now 😂

i’m always slightly cautious about annotating in a book when reading for the first time. i have to give it a lil bit and then i’ll go back and annotate if i know i’m gonna love it. but i’ve been pretty into it lately and i just like the process of annotating even if the book ends up not being a 5 star for me

If you use the transparent sticky you must use permanent marker like sharpie. They have a retractable ultra thin to write and some thin cap colors.
It will smudge with everything else. Believe me I’ve tried it all!!
I watch this video because I recently got into acotar and I’m very curious to why people or highlighting tapping the books. I’m such a fan girl.😂😂
8:34 I choose another tab colour that closely matches the first one I pick so if I run out of that first colour, I'm still good to go in a big book.

7:22 I only use those in books I'm trying to learn from. Like I'm reading a book rn about learning how to learn so it helps me think differently about numbers (because they're usually not my friends lol) But I'm with you. They're awkward and uglyyyyy!!!
Great video! I only annotate on second + readings of a book, for the reasons you’ve stated. To me, tabbing is only necessary in order to return to a particular page at a future time & it’s not something that I find useful. That said, the tabs do look pretty peeking from between pages, so I understand why many people enjoy doing it.

Thanks for the video. I personally use a very limited amount of colors for tabs, which is: green for ideas, yellow for new words and things to think over or google, blue for wordplays and quotes (author's language), pink for love (obviously) and orange for funny moments. Maybe someone in the comments would find it useful for them, so I shared.
I don’t annotate cause I don’t know how but I love that you do. I would so love a copy of Wall of winniapege that you have annotated as I read the book because of you and let me tell you I loooved it!!!!!

I just bought those transparent sticky notes. Be careful if you consider buying them. They do work, however since they are made of plastic you cannot write on them with gel pens or any water based ink or marker. It will smear right off. You are only able to write on them with pencil, or oil based inks, like most ball point non gel pens or permanent markers like a sharpie. With a marker you will have to allow for some drying time. They do work but if I had known that ahead of time I probably wouldn’t have bought them.

Ok please explain this to me…I cannot annotate novels. I cannot. My brain will not allow it. BUT I love seeing how other people annotate their books. It is so satisfying. Why am I like this?
Trust me I felt the same way. I couldn't write in my books neither could I crack the spines of the books. But I started with just tabbing because u could remove them if u wanted later. But maybe try to write in your books with a pencil, this way u could erase it if u don't like it

I was thinking of those clear tabs that you can write on but then I think, nope, somehow it will stain the pages, it will smudge or transfer 🫣 I need help haha I highlight, write in and tab educational books but when it comes to novels, I just can’t. My books look almost brand new after I’ve read them. I treat them like precious gems. Haha
