Steve, what a game changer. I am running a i713700K and 3080ti. Before on the G2, I was happy with 30+fps on the Maddog in FS DreamTeam’s KCLT. Just received the Crystal and was disappointed until I tried your settings. Clarity is unbelievable and getting 45 fps on Maddog at KCLT with traffic. I fly a lot of GA planes and getting 56fps in all of my airports and scenery I fly in. I don’t know how you do it, but thanks for your videos. I can’t believe my performance with 3080ti. I plan on skipping the 4XXX series and waiting for the 5XXX to release. Then I’ll do a complete PC upgrade. Thanks again for your settings!
Thank you for your settings, recieved this weekend my Pimax Crystal, with my high end pc amd 7950X3D and RTX 4090, What a clearity and colors, so beatifull and what a easy setup. Even with the poly lenzes already great experience, now waiting for glas lenzes and the VR rock inserts
Seems like most of your vids, if not all, you're flying around rural UK. Would like to see you fly in NYC or Tokyo in rain and show us what performance you're getting in those dense urban environments.
Hi thanks for your feedback, if I were to make a performance video, I'd of course, showcase more resource intensive areas. But I am a sucker for flying around the UK most of the time, including London which is a PC breaker area 👍
@@VRFlightSimGuy how do you stay clear of something that's been in your pc since 2015 ? I'm sure other viewers are very curious about your statement. Did you somehow roll back to dx11? Or is there an option in MSFS to select between one or the other at boot up?
@@tonye2458 so this complaint is actually about MSFS with dx12 and not what he stated in his video previously "vr doesn't like dx12"? If that's the case then that makes much more sense to me and probably his viewers. 😕
Steve, I recently reinstalled my machine (4090, 13900k, Crystal) and I am finding amazing performance of around 48fps (e.g. in the TBM850) in MSFS using SU14. But the real kicker is that I am running at the native Crystal resolution 4312x5102 (not the 3500x whatever that we always used in the past)! I remember six months ago we couldnt do this, and struggled with around 20fps I think. I am still running DX11. Would you consider doing an update to the Pimax Crystal settings for MSFS, as something has definitely improved!
I don't personally like running with TAA over DLSS, considering the loss of overall visuals that's required to run with TAA. I can run a LOD of 260 or even higher (up to 335) with DLSS in Balanced mode with everything on Ultra and still have the cockpit be very readable and have excellent visuals while maintaining a very usable framerate between 48 to 52 (this is with an i9 13900k and an overclocked RTX 4090 FE with dynamic foveated rendering enabled in OpenXR Toolkit). I also don't need to override my resolution like you mention early on in the video. I find that if I do TAA and drop the resolution like that the visuals end up worse than if I just leave the resolution alone and use DLSS in Balanced. That higher resolution is technically higher than the resolution of the panels, but running at that higher resolution does in fact produce a better image because you are supersampling at that point. I can't stand the loss of image quality when I drop that down, even with TAA. I'd much rather leave that resolution alone and run with DLSS in Balanced mode with everything on Ultra and get the same general resolution but with all MSFS visual effects maxed out. There are times when the visuals are so good that it looks like I'm actually flying, it's unreal. Just wanted to mention this for anyone who has a high end CPU with an RTX 4090 and maybe isn't getting the best results with these particular settings and wants to try something else. For this to work well you really do need to be using the dynamic foveated rendering (it's a total game changer) via the OpenXR toolkit (use the custom settings and adjust them to something that is comfortable for you) and have your GPU overclocked (you can use MSI Afterburner for this) to get that extra bit of power out of it, but the results are spectacular. I also enable "Turbo Mode" in the OpenXR settings, set "Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames" to 3 and "Power management mode" to "Prefer maximum performance" for MSFS in NVIDIA Control Panel, and run the Crystal at 120hz. If you can get up to around 50fps with these settings you'll have a great and very usable experience. When I had my Reverb G2 I needed to use reprojection to get it running smoothly when at a lower framerate than the refresh rate of the screen, but for whatever reason with the Crystal at 120hz as long as I can get up to around 46 to 50fps it's smooth enough to be a very good experience in MSFS without needing to enable motion smoothing / reprojection or any of that stuff. I do enable depth reprojection in MSFS itself but that's it and that doesn't really make that big of a difference when it's off in terms of overall smoothness anyways. I tried running the Crystal at 90hz instead with 50fps and I found it felt even less smooth for some reason, which is why I ended up settling on these settings. They were inspired by Tally Mouse's settings and I haven't been able to get a better experience with any of the other settings that I've tried. This is finally the VR flight sim visual experience that I've been chasing for years (and will obviously only get better from here as hardware improves, we eventually won't need DLSS at all to reach this level of visuals).
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks Steve! FYI that I just received my tracking number, then it showed as cancelled by sender...ugh! Not sure what's going on with these guys, lol.
steve where can i get the pimax beta version for eye tracking my pimax client has no auto ipd or eye tracking is that only for beta? and my open xr tool kit dosent have the eye tracking option is ther a setting i have to turn on to see the eye tracking tab
WOW. I really appreciate you for doing this video, Steve. It almost feels like an exclusive, given the questions I gave you yesterday (or the day before?? Getting old... 😁) It really looks like the Crystal may be worth while with my 3090 and i7-13700K after all, with some tweaking. And I guess there will be updates along the way as well, maybe even further improving the result you'd get from a combo like that. I am SO wanting to get rid of the fresnel lenses, even though the G2 IS really good (in the sweet-spot). Thanks again, m8! ♥♥🔥🔥🔥♥♥
Hey my friend I hope you are well on this fun Saturday morning! I've had quite a lot of comments and questions about settings for this headset, so I made sure to test it with a 3080 at a friend's house the other day. Overall, if you are happy to use DLSS with the settings I've mentioned, you'll be OK. As far as the lenses in the G2 are concerned, you'll be blown away with the difference in edge to edge clarity. It's about 80-85% compared to the Reverb G2s 10-15% in the middle. Take care! 😊
What I still can't wrap my head around: why would I reduce (or increase) render resolution other than 1.0x, and then use some sort of sharpening/upscaling, if I can also just reduce the resolution used by DLSS and then get some super-advanced hw accelerated AI upscaling? Just setting DLSS to "performance" gives me 45 fps and it's better looking than all the OXR toolkit reductions.
Great video with good explanations, as I’m new with Pimax Crystal, could you, please tell me how to record a video without the 2 separate screens ? Thank you
I'm just stepping up from the G2 headset to the Crystal. I have it looking great, about 45 FPS with nearly all high and ultra settings, but one issue I'm having is when the aircraft are on or very near the runway, there is a lot of shimmer or jitter on the edges of the aircraft windows or wing struts. I had this ironed out with the Reverb G2, and it was like butter, but I cannot remember what setting I used to fix that issue... Any thoughts?
Hello Steve, quick question. I got my PIMAX CRYSTAL yesterday, and I’m blown away by it. My question is. When I ended my session, I was unsure of wether to leave the battery in the headset or take it out, I was afraid it would discharge fully, my hesitation came from observing that, even though I had already completely shut down my PC, there was a little led light next to the buttons on top of the headset blinking. So do you leave your battery on or off the headset?
@@MrTurbine777 I am happy to report that my PIMAX CRYSTAL works 100% of the time, and it does so flawlessly • I fly at least once a day, often 2 times a day, these are different sessions at different times of the day and in every instance my headset works just fine, I’m very pleased.
First of all, love your channel. I just purchased the Crystal and have downloaded Open XR and Pimax XR. I have no issues with running MSFS202 but when I try to run X Plane, it doesn't recognize the headset. Any suggestions?
With DLSS on I experienced what can only be described as "flashy" artefacts in MSFS, like glitchy flashy things all over the place. Switched off DLSS and went to TAA and it went away. RTX 3080 TI on Intel I9 9900KF 64GB RAM.
hi there. I have a question about a small problem with the pimaxXr tool inhead menu. I see the menu very small in the left side of my eye. It has always been good, but recently this problem has arisen, does anyone know how I can solve this?
Hi Steve. My biggest question right now is how easy is it to access the windows desktop from within the Pimax headset? With my g2 i just the windows key on my keyboard and can quickly access my desktop via WMR. I need something like this for the Crystal because i use that feature a ton. Thanks.
That's a brilliant question. This is something I love about the V Aero and G2, but unfortunately I haven't seen a way to do this with the Crystal unless you use Steam VR (so you can bring up the desktop). There may be a way though so I'll look into this further (pardon the pun).
Hi all , I m a Pimax Crystal owner and i tried to apply the same settings shown here on my system( 5800X3D , RTX 4090 , 32 GB ram): - in MSFS: AA TAA and Medium to High settings , TLOD 150, LOD 130. - in OpenXR: resolution set to 3500*4142 ,turbo mode on, refresh rate locked to half(45) and i also activated DFR. The issue is ,even if frame rate seems stable, i m experiencing terrible re-projection when moving my head around. the issue goes away if i change from TAA to DLSS quality or if i keep decreasing the resolution with TAA. I found a good balance using DLSS Quality and increasing the resolution higher than 3500*4142 but i m curious why following these settings i m not able to have decent performances? Maybe i i misunderstood and he's not using TAA ? is There some other of you with similar configuration struggling to achieve good performance following these settings?
I am almost there Steve. my i9 13900k/4090 arrived and I am going thru the painstaking install/download of all addons.. Crystal is about to ship as well after an almost 3 month wait.. your settings guide is awesome and only need to be tweaked slightly to fit my airliner flying style.. thanks again for all that you do. couple of questions : NVIDIA settings : do you still use MAX performance for power and Performance for Texture FIltering? also - Game mode on or off? thanks again
That's awesome Kam congrats. You have the same setup as me and it really rocks! You're correct about Nvidia settings. You could possibly try locking the fps to 45fps as this may be smoother than slightly higher fps. Game mode on in WIN 11 (but result may vary on that one) Cheers!
I've got a 3090 and this is only giving me around 30 FPS... with medium settings. If I switch out of VR with ultra (everything maxed out on a 5k monitor), I get a solid 90+ what is going on? One setting that seems really odd to me is that resolution override. You mention wanting that to be set at 3500x4142 but the setting itself mentions it's (per eye) and the headset only supports 2880x2880x so why would that be cranked up so high?
3:50 How on EARTH are you getting 90fps non-reprojected? I didn't think even with a 4090 that was possible. And that ground scenery is so clear and detailed.
I wondered that too. HP G2 user here and tried same resolution averaging 50 fps with these settings but very stuttery. He does say later in video he has average 50fps so not sure why it says 90fps in the OpenXR Toolkit OSD. I tried these settings with a 4090 and 5800x3d and they were awful, stuttery and not as clear or as smooth as my 200% OpenXR using DLSS Performance.
Folks, I'm not getting 90fps here, I'm getting between 55-60fps as mentioned in the video (in TAA mode) and get about 75-80fps using DLSS. The Open XR settings you see have been overlayed. I probably could achieve 90fps if I turned down my settings a little more though. The 4090 is am absolute beast. Cheers!
Hi Steve, how would you sum up the visual difference of the Crystal over the Pico 4? Clarity, FOV and performance? I'm new to VR and really enjoying the Pico 4 but Crystal may well be my next purchase.
It's a massive difference in clarity, the Crystal is the best image quality you can currently experience in a consumer grade VR headset. FOV is also much better, although performance will hurt if you don't have a decent system to run it. Mind you, if you can run the Pico 4 on godlike mode, you can run the Crystal.
Thanks for the tips! Keep it coming. This will come in handy once my Crystal arrives. Do they have an ETA on eye tracked dynanic foveated rendering yet?
I’m finally receiving my crystal in a few day. I’ll only be using it for store version of MSFS. Do I still need pimaxxr runtime even though I don’t use SteamVR? Thanks in advance for your help.
Quick question: Do you need to adjust the resolution settings in Open XR every time you start or will it stick after the first time for every session? Also, does this help with framerate for every VR game or just for flight sim type games?
Just got delivery of my Crystal today! Got it up and running. A bit frustrating as the Pimax website for downloading was very bad and took many clicks. It’s incredibly clearer compared to the G2, but heavier and rather uncomfortable, especially with glasses (must order prescription lenses). It doesn’t seem stable as Im getting all kinds of tearing flashes when I move my head or tap the headset, like a cable is loose or broken, but its all secured tightly. Am I missing something or perhaps a defective headset? For $2,700cd, I feel taken right now as my G2 is much more stable :(
The tearing flashes sound a lot like what I was seeing, until I turned off Smart Smoothing in the Pimax device settings (see the video at 7:55). The tearing/flashing stopped after that. Try that if you haven't yet!
Love your videos, getting the itch to buy my first VR headset, would like to see some commercial flying just to get a sense of how they perform on the Fenix A320
How is the VR experience flying helicopters & looking at the ground out the side window? I’m finding that on the Quest Pro get best results with ASW enabled…
Thanks again for another great Crystal video! You mentioned a forthcoming smart smoothing video; is that essentially the same as motion reprojection for the G2? I am really close to pre-ordering the Crystal as an upgrade for my G2, but I want to make sure my 3090 can handle it. I'm a big fan of motion reprojection on the G2, and I'll feel better about purchasing the Crystal if I know it has some form of reprojection that will work for DCS in OpenXR. Maybe one of your future videos could look at reprojection/smart smoothing in DCS with the Crystal? Thanks in advance!
Hey Echo my pleasure bud, yes smart smoothing is essentially the same as motion reprojection. I'm struggling to get it working at the moment, but the Pimax engineers will hopefully get this fixed before too long. Once this happens, I'll of course update everyone with a video. 😊
@@VRFlightSimGuy you're awesome, Steve! Thanks again for the entertaining and informative videos. It's great to know that we have a friendly VR enthusiast in the flight sim community that can help us optimize our gear choices and software settings. Very, very helpful. Cheers!
Has MSFS had any performance improvements? I remember having to use nvidia DLSS on performance to get a smooth experience. Haven’t used my sim in a few months and today I found out it runs smooth just running native resolution
Just got my Crystal. Another simmer is saying that Windows Open XR must first be enabled before using Pimax Open XR Runtime. Seems a bit redundant with possible conflicts. Can you clarify? Thanks Steve and I really appreciate all you do on your channel!
@VRFlightSimGuy I'm willing to make a donation of $75 for some 1-on-1 help to get set up properly. I'm new to VR and my initial experience with the Pimax needs much improvement. I should mention that I'm running a 4080 on i7-13k with 64G RAM. Let me know. Thanks Steve.
Very nice recap of Pimax Crystal settings. Thanks. I hope to have it one day together with a top GPU but from AMD if they RTX 4090 prices stay insane. So I do hope you will get the chance to test it with 7900 XTX ;-) have a great weekend my friend and by for now (VR Flight Sim Guy Trade Mark ending) :-)
is it smooth out the windows at that fps in the headset? or does it stutter? if its smooth as butter then fps doesn't really matter but if its stuttering its an issue
Well, I just tried my new Pimax Crystal. I copied exactly the same settings as shown on Pimax "How to run MSFS2020 on ac3080 with Pimax Crystal" copy of Tetiana settings of DiscoVR. Comparing itvto my old Reverb G2 I can read instruments better and outside visuals are sharper on the G2, only the Brightness of Pimax Crystal is better. So what is wrong with the above settings? Also the Power Hub of Pimax is very delicate and especially the cable that goes from the Hub to the PC disconnects frequently even without touching it... Headset heavy and not comfortable for me. Any suggestions
DLSS ruins text clarity. You can try the Quality setting and some sharpening. If not enough you will have to go without DLSS and compensante by lowering graphics quality to get decent fps. Last solution : upgrade gpu. I have also a 3080 (with a pimax 8kx).
Thanks again Steve! I’m so torn right now. Aero is on sale and I have a preorder for the Crystal. Any idea when the Crystal will start being shipped? I may just get the Aero and see how I like it.
Hey Steve! So oddly enough, when I downloaded OpenXR and PimaxXR, MSFS crashes about 90% into the loading screen every time. I tried all kinds of fixes until I found on a forum that OpenXR was crashing his at the same point as well. I removed those two programs and MSFS finally starts. Have you or anyone else on here heard or had this issue? If I can't run OpenXR or PimaxXR with MSFS, then what's the point of having them? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Quick update, it's specifically Pimax XR that's crashing MSFS2020. It may be because I don't have the Pimax software loaded yet. I guess we'll see when I eventually receive mine to test out.
Update. I now use TAA only. The clarity is amazing. Now, how to improve the sound of the dmas. It’s way too low. And not surround sound. Any help really appreciate it.
It would save a lot of headaches if pimax just lowered the native resolution to around that 4000 or 3500 vertical pixels per eye, if even a 4090 is struggling. I am wondering too what turbo mode actually does to boost performance so much
Thanks so much Steve for the great video. With the new generation of headsets coming out and with my "intro to VR" Quest 2 getting a bit long in the tooth I'll be looking to upgrade later this year. My 3090ti is just not old enough for me to consider upgrading so I'll need something that works well with that along with the 13700 and it was great how you showed your settings for both machines and described the tradeoffs. Please consider continuing to do this comparison when showcasing new gen headsets? The Crystal might be a bit much for my budget, but could consider something like the new Bigscreen Beyond (I'd take more clarity for my $ letting a wider field of view slip). Hope you will be able to do a similar video once that gets released.
Believe me the reverb g2 is amazing when setup with open xr tool kit correctly the small sweet spot it suffers with goes away a lot for £600 it’s the best headset in the price range I’m still on a quest 2 but have tried the g2 it’s night and day
Many thanks Chris, please beware that unfortunately, your 3090ti does not play nice with the Reverb G2 or Pimax Crystal I'm sorry to say. I would recommend changing your GPU first, before getting a new headset. Best wishes.
Thanks for providing this information. I just made payment on the Crystal and should have it in about 3-4 weeks (so they say). I'm running the 3080ti, so will setup with your recommendations and hopefully not have to fool around with it too much. Cheers.
@@poolhallshark So, I received my Pimax but dumb ass me gave them the wrong lens prescription 😱 so now I have to wait to get that corrected But even so, it still looks really good. Cockpit labels are easily read. Very clear. Will be very happy once I have the corrected lenses.
@@Josh23913 Nice to hear, but so annoying to get "wrong" lenses though. I have ordered my own lenses from a company called HONS, so I've used glasses so far. There is enough space for the glasses, but it definitely feels safer with magnetic clip-on lenses, as not to scratch the very expensive glass lenses of the headset 🙂
Great vid, now as you know I religiously attend VRFSG video church, so apologies if I have missed it, but with your 3070, what per eye res are you setting with your G2, as it was made really clear for the Pimax in this vid! 🙏🏻 🎥 ✈️
Nice got my crystal, I downloaded open composite as suggested by pimax it makes msfs froze its instead followed your guide instead it runs flawlessly now thanks
I preordered in Feb and upgraded from Pico 4 it’s really another level of clarity. But it takes some time to adjust the headset position for the sweet spot for me. Nice video 👍
Hey I just posted another post regarding this. MSFS crashes with OpenXR or PimaxXR on my PC at the 90% mark loading screen every time. Once I removed them, MSFS finally loaded. How did you fix this? Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Today my new PC came with the 4090. YAW 2 will probably ship in the next 10 days. Until my crystal gets here, I'll probably use the pico. I am excited.
Is this not a little disingenuous considering you're running the Crystal on streamer-only beta software? How do you know performance isn't affected between beta software/firmware and what's publicly available?
@@4secsharkmr352 Maybe Steve can give you his when he gets his production model. Or , Steve could start a go fund me page and we could all chip in to get you one. I would support that.
Very thorough as usual. I started typing some questions here before the video was completely over and then "future Steve" answered them before I could finish, lol. One question remains though: In what way is the Motion Smoothing not working well? Is it having too many artifacts or what? I noticed you had the AMD sharpening turned on in the sim settings and I've noticed that causes extra artifacts from MR in the G2 unless I turn it to zero.
I have pimax 8kx and rtx 3090, would 8kx also benefit from this? I dont mean using the same specific settings, but from using Pimax XR and Open XR toolkit in general.
I have to make a choice between a motion rig or the crystal, My current rig is a Ryzen 9 7950x3d, 128 gb ram, Rtx 4090 game drive gen 4 ssd, hp reverb g2v2 and thrustmaster warthog setup. Mostly fly DCS. I have enough in this years budget to get a motion rig or the crystal. Suggestions?
I have a 2080 and I am starting to consider cancelling my crystal pre-order and get a 4090 instead. Otherwise i'd feel like putting the cart before the horse. 😰
@Somerandom Person I wouldn't want to call a 2080 low-end. Also, I am re-evaluating the prices in my head of gaming in my head. The more I think about it, the more I am considering quitting this hobby altogether as it just isn't worth it. I'd rather take a couple of real flying lessons, or go karting, or take my real car onto the Nurburgring, or get my trucking license and generate some income with what was once a virtual hobby in real life. Gaming has become absurdly expensive in the last decade, and there is just more to life than hiding away in a virtual world. Life is too short for it, or maybe I am getting too old for having these thoughts.
weird, at 8:07 it says you have plastic lenses. I would have thought they would have sent you the final glass lenses, which are supposed to be like twice as good. is your unit not final retail? I suppose not as they also need to send you the 42ppd lenses too. Also it seems you aren't using the latest Pitool , they added the option to set 4 different local dimming levels.
Wow man it's hard to keep up. Almost bought the Varjo Aero because its the best....wait, hold up. Almost bought the Pico 4 because it's the best for the price....wait, hold up. Almost bought the DOF H3....wait, hold up. Now it's the Pimax Crystal....and I'm still gonna wait and hold up. I have the HP Reverb G2 V2 that I got on sale for $400. @@VRFlightSimGuy Yea time flies. I know its been out a while, but wasn't going to invest that much when something will come out better as tech evolves. Hey everyone can someone help me. I use OpenXR and PimaxXR I reduced the resolution in OpenXR down to 3500x41xx. According to the FPS display, I have about 40-45 FPS but the picture freezes and jerks without interruption. In the beginning I had managed to have a liquid picture. But currently I can't do that anymore. Thanks
@@dioude6745 Ok I've actually switched from DX11 to DX 12 and now I still have 40fps but it runs without any stutters. I have a 4090 and a 11900k. You mean the hardware accelerated GPU in windows right?
Please help :) I can't get my head around this. You say downscale, but the resolution is set to 3500x4142 which is (2880x1.2)x(2880x1.4). So the vertical is upscaled by 1.2 and the horizontal total resolution is upscaled by 1.4. What? And in another video you stated that the default resolution for the Crystal was too high (which is what) and you recommended setting it to the "same as the Varjo Aero" (which is what) but do not provide any numbers. Should Dynamic Foveated Rendering be activated in the Pimax Client or just in the OpenXR Toolkit, or both? I am on a 4070 Super OC with an i9 14900KF and I have to use DLSS Performance, Textures High, Terrain Vector Data high, and everything else on low or off to get acceptable fps with the Crystal (I am also running the latest Auto fps). Even then, with lets say the Aerosoft ENGM and the Chancellor (which is on sale yay) I get huge stutters when the airport model loads in on landing. Is the 4070 Super really THAT far off the 4090?
We simply need an rtx 8090 which will be release in the year 2030 so we will be able to play this game with locked 120 fps at 100% steam super sampling and 5ms frame times + maxed out settings on a pimax 12k Qled
Open mouth thumbnail syndrome 😮 but nice vid nonetheless. But there is no mention about foveated rendering which I think makes quite a difference at least in DCS
@@VRFlightSimGuy I'm talking about using the fixed foveated rendering with the Pimax Crystal, there must be some area of the screen which isn't visible in the headset which can then be rendered at a lower resolution
Heya buddy, I have some good ideas for different settings lol. But i need a mandatory VR hardware update😂 As always a brilliant video. Have a wonderful weekend and take care my friend.

As a second option for DLSS lovers, I'd highly recommend the following settings posted on my Discord from our clever guru and dear friend Uwe:
Use the following settings:
Msfs:
DLSS Balanced
LOD´s max 110 both
Textures mostly High + Ultra
Shadows low
Light Shafts medium
Ambiant Occlusion low-medium
Clouds High
Usercfg.opt every Postprocessing option to 0 und VR
OpenXR Toolkit
Turbo Mode ON
FSR only sharpen at 80%
FFR to maybe 70% inner Ring Outer 85%
Custom per eye resolution beginn with round about 4300xXXXX
Adapt until your FPS are around 45-50fps
For me these settings made everything look washed out and like I was looking through a coffee can.

I plan on skipping the 4XXX series and waiting for the 5XXX to release. Then I’ll do a complete PC upgrade. Thanks again for your settings!
"The whole nine yards" saying is in reference in this case to the length of the Vickers machine gun bandolier.
Spitfires had Browning machine guns.
Thanks for that info James, I never knew that.
Thank you for your settings, recieved this weekend my Pimax Crystal, with my high end pc amd 7950X3D and RTX 4090, What a clearity and colors, so beatifull and what a easy setup. Even with the poly lenzes already great experience, now waiting for glas lenzes and the VR rock inserts
wow this is helpful...love that you are including the 30xx cards! thanks!
Stay clear of DirectX 12? I think everybody's on DirectX 12, how do you stay away from something that been in your machine for probably over a year🤷
Very odd comment. Do as you will. I'm only here to give advice.
@@VRFlightSimGuy how do you stay clear of something that's been in your pc since 2015 ? I'm sure other viewers are very curious about your statement. Did you somehow roll back to dx11? Or is there an option in MSFS to select between one or the other at boot up?
🤷
You have an option of using either dx11 or dx12 in the sim settings. He is correct, dx12 in msfs is absolute crap in vr.
Thanks for thinking about us 3080 users as well ❤
Pleasure ☺️
50fps is no good try locking at 45fps using the Pimax XR switcher or now, in their own software. Works a charm 👍
How do you know which directx version is being used?
Check your PC settings, it's under there and also related to VR

Take care! 😊
@@VRFlightSimGuy 🔥🔥🔥
What I still can't wrap my head around: why would I reduce (or increase) render resolution other than 1.0x, and then use some sort of sharpening/upscaling, if I can also just reduce the resolution used by DLSS and then get some super-advanced hw accelerated AI upscaling? Just setting DLSS to "performance" gives me 45 fps and it's better looking than all the OXR toolkit reductions.
Appreciate all your Crystal sim videos
Thankyou ☺️
Great video with good explanations, as I’m new with Pimax Crystal, could you, please tell me how to record a video without the 2 separate screens ? Thank you
What render resolution ratio do you use in the pimax tool ?
I'm just stepping up from the G2 headset to the Crystal. I have it looking great, about 45 FPS with nearly all high and ultra settings, but one issue I'm having is when the aircraft are on or very near the runway, there is a lot of shimmer or jitter on the edges of the aircraft windows or wing struts. I had this ironed out with the Reverb G2, and it was like butter, but I cannot remember what setting I used to fix that issue... Any thoughts?
Does your crystal actually work? Work meaning at least half the time you want to use it?
Yes it works everytime, better than my 8kx.
I now have eye tracking enabled in msfs, another 5-10 fps boost
Newer guides with dynamic fov. rendering have hags off, are you still running with hags on?
Hello Steve, quick question.
I got my PIMAX CRYSTAL yesterday, and I’m blown away by it.
My question is.
When I ended my session, I was unsure of wether to leave the battery in the headset or take it out, I was afraid it would discharge fully, my hesitation came from observing that, even though I had already completely shut down my PC, there was a little led light next to the buttons on top of the headset blinking. So do you leave your battery on or off the headset?
Does your crystal actually work? Work meaning at least half the time you want to use it?
Did your frame rate drop by about 20 or more FPS too though? I find the slight blurred DLSS is acceptable because of the smoother gameplay.
Thank you VERY VERY much. This game looks sooo awesome and runs so good now with my Crystal. Greetings from germany.
hi there.
I have a question about a small problem with the pimaxXr tool inhead menu.
I see the menu very small in the left side of my eye. It has always been good, but recently this problem has arisen, does anyone know how I can solve this?
great video. I just tried my new pimax crystal with msfs and msfs dosn't detect a headset but its on and can play steam games. What step am I missing?
How much to pay you for a consultation on the pimax
Are you still using resolution override with the 4090 card?
I see a Spitfire, I'm hitting that like button like crazy.
Hi all , I m a Pimax Crystal owner and i tried to apply the same settings shown here on my system( 5800X3D , RTX 4090 , 32 GB ram):
- in MSFS: AA TAA and Medium to High settings , TLOD 150, LOD 130.
Try turning HAGS off. Best of luck!

couple of questions : NVIDIA settings : do you still use MAX performance for power and Performance for Texture FIltering? also - Game mode on or off? thanks again

You mention wanting that to be set at 3500x4142 but the setting itself mentions it's (per eye) and the headset only supports 2880x2880x so why would that be cranked up so high?
x2, I think this is wrong.... Just got my crystal today so will have to play with this.
3:50 How on EARTH are you getting 90fps non-reprojected? I didn't think even with a 4090 that was possible. And that ground scenery is so clear and detailed.
Because the resolution is undersampled
@@VRFlightSimGuyThanks, much appreciated. Keep up the great videos.

This will come in handy once my Crystal arrives.

Set and forget 👍
Love your videos, getting the itch to buy my first VR headset, would like to see some commercial flying just to get a sense of how they perform on the Fenix A320
Sorry I don't have that aircraft. Thankyou for your kind words though!
How is the VR experience flying helicopters & looking at the ground out the side window?
I’m finding that on the Quest Pro get best results with ASW enabled…
It's feels pretty nice, especially with DLSS on at 70+fps... But I'm looking forward to trying out smart smoothing as like you say, that would be best
Any suggestions for night flights? I find the backlight to sort of wash out the blacks.
Figured this one out on my own, it wasn't difficult. Just needed to play around with the local dimming settings in Pimax Play :)
Also thanks for the suggestion, I'll use DCS for this test once it's fixed. Cheers

Thanks Nick. Plenty more to come 😊
is it smooth out the windows at that fps in the headset? or does it stutter? if its smooth as butter then fps doesn't really matter but if its stuttering its an issue
Hey Brian, I wish I could tell you but I've no idea when you'd receive yours if you ordered now.
Just got my pimax crystal!!!! Do you use it in DLSS or in TCA mode
I am wondering too what turbo mode actually does to boost performance so much
That just depends on the title. I wouldn't want them nerf their resolution just for one sim. What about a year from now on a 5090?
Believe me the reverb g2 is amazing when setup with open xr tool kit correctly the small sweet spot it suffers with goes away a lot for £600 it’s the best headset in the price range

Cheers.

A high-resolution Crystal with a low-end GPU like the 2080 is silly... is that not kind of... obvious?
@Somerandom Person I wouldn't want to call a 2080 low-end. Also, I am re-evaluating the prices in my head of gaming in my head. The more I think about it, the more I am considering quitting this hobby altogether as it just isn't worth it.
I'd rather take a couple of real flying lessons, or go karting, or take my real car onto the Nurburgring, or get my trucking license and generate some income with what was once a virtual hobby in real life.

weird, at 8:07 it says you have plastic lenses.
I have mine selected to glass lenses. However, I will be receiving the final production unit next week. Thanks for watching :)
I thought not yet released?

Wow man it's hard to keep up. Almost bought the Varjo Aero because its the best....wait, hold up. Almost bought the Pico 4 because it's the best for the price....wait, hold up. Almost bought the DOF H3....wait, hold up. Now it's the Pimax Crystal....and I'm still gonna wait and hold up. I have the HP Reverb G2 V2 that I got on sale for $400. Completely happy with it's performance running a 4090. If I jumped into every product you recommended I'd have a lot of stuff laying around collecting dust. 😆 Not saying as a bad thing, just need to be careful what I invest in. 👍
The Varjo Aero has been the best for nearly two years dude. Where have you been? ;)
@@VRFlightSimGuy Yea time flies. I know its been out a while, but wasn't going to invest that much when something will come out better as tech evolves. Hey, if you had to pay for every device you have, you'd be a little bit of a selective consumer yourself. That's why I read and watch as many reviews as possible before buying. Cheers!
I thought it hasn't been released yet?

@@VRFlightSimGuy it will probably be October
Hey everyone can someone help me. I use OpenXR and PimaxXR I reduced the resolution in OpenXR down to 3500x41xx. According to the FPS display, I have about 40-45 FPS but the picture freezes and jerks without interruption. In the beginning I had managed to have a liquid picture. But currently I can't do that anymore. Thanks
Have you tried with GPU hardware scheduling off ?
@@dioude6745 Where exactly can I turn this off?
@@Geiso Settings/display/graphic settings
@@dioude6745 Ok I've actually switched from DX11 to DX 12 and now I still have 40fps but it runs without any stutters. I have a 4090 and a 11900k. You mean the hardware accelerated GPU in windows right?
What is that seat?
Secret Labs Titan
Would these settings work with my 8KX? ..I'm just using it with DLSS not OpenXR Toolkit.. can someone give me there advice please, thanks guys
I have a 3090
No these are specific to the Crystal
@@VRFlightSimGuy okay 👍 thanks mate
Nice video Steve that xr tool kit is a god send for us mfs simmers 🙏🙏
I sometimes wonder what we would do without it! Have a great weekend buddy.
Still waiting on my pre order email so i can buy it :)
Yeah sorry about the thumbnail, blame the TH-cam algorithm for that 😅 DFR is coming to DCS, I just don't know when.
@@VRFlightSimGuy I'm talking about using the fixed foveated rendering with the Pimax Crystal, there must be some area of the screen which isn't visible in the headset which can then be rendered at a lower resolution
@@plabbsi This works the same as the 8KX, 5KS and is switchable in the Pimax Client.
Heya buddy,
I have some good ideas for different settings lol.
But i need a mandatory VR hardware update😂
As always a brilliant video.
Have a wonderful weekend and take care my friend.
Cheer mate, I can bet you would be able to improve on these settings quite a bit. Pimax SHOULD send you one for testing (hint hint)!
first
There can only be one!
Really duke?? You have excelled our expectations. Congratulations on being yet another Twat wasting an early comment on a video. You've got nothing constructive to comment, but " first" ironically I bet you haven't even watched the video or at best you've commented then watched.
What amazes me is that you were allowed to watch unsupervised. Based on people of your capacity being incapable of using a light switch without instructions.
Surely your little pile of books about spot the dog, with their 5 cardboard pages and a guarantee sticker that states" These books are waterproof and chewable" is challenging enough?
😎🤞
Thanks / I got my Crystal and used this for DCS - it was good.
We just need DFR / hope it comes soon.
Do you have a discord ?
